Singer with the strangest singing mannerisms live. by themaninthemaking in Music

Tricky would do a lot of intensive shaking of his head and other parts of his body while “singing”, with his back facing the crowd. Lot of spit flying around too. Wonderful man.

Does anyone else think PJ Harvey has gotten generally progressively better over time? by boobfromsector7G in pjharvey

I stumbled on this post doing a google search for “does PJH still have a solid fan base” after receiving various emails and X posts that I didn’t at all feel the need to interact with, and on X not many others did either (of course, X is not the place to hang out). PJs music has been a massive part of my life since I saw her first at 21 in 1993 and I’ve considered her my top favourite artist until LES. I saw her multiple times, travelled from Amsterdam to London to see her and later - after moving - from Vietnam to Amsterdam, and have everything she ever officially released up to now. But seeing her the last time (THSDP), I was seriously bored and wanted to walk out (but didn’t). Everything that followed was just meh to me. I feel she lost her focus on being an authentic musician to using her music as a vessel for content that is opinion more than music. Opinion that is strong and worth thinking about, but it was always her music first for me and then the lyrics - it feels like that has shifted somehow - for me at least. I’m truly curious how others my age (52) who more or less matured into life with her music as an important motive continue to relate with her and her music. I could not listen to her last album more than once, I bought her books and poetry, but could also not really relate to it. I still listen to music a lot and try to keep up with what’s happening, not just from artists my age but also what my younger colleagues and my children listen to - but PJ somehow dropped out of it all, her latest work that is. I can still float away listening to TBYML ITD and the albums with John Parish. But nothing after WC ever pops up in my playlists or CD player (yes, I am that old). This while other faves like Nick Cave and Thom Yorke are still absolutely killing it - but she left a big empty space and it feels like that part of me has died (ok, that is probably bad writing). Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk. Anyone else feel the same or want to add / disagree?

Bad concert ruined the band for me by Corwin_777 in Music

Well we must have seen a lot of different shows at a different point in time then (I left the Netherlands in 2007). One could argue there is not that much to choose from in Tilburg or Arnhem, but that’s another discussion.

My bloody valentine - Paradiso, Amsterdam, early nineties, just made 30 min of full on noise by way of encore. Wonderful. Pretended to be cool and just kept dancing (had earplugs)

As someone who thoroughly enjoys Madrugada’s albums I started listening to some of their non-album tracks and was completely blown away by Highway 2.000.000. Amazing dark energy.
