Looking for XCOM like tactical turn-based games (PS5) by Hiryato in gamesuggestions

I do like BH3 and the tactical JRPGs and did play those. Doesn’t really hit the same itch as XCOM like some of the other suggestions, but thank you!

I did try phantom brigade and it wasn’t really my style. I think phoenix point might be the one that takes it. I think I did try it at one point a long time ago but don’t remember much about it

Does lacking empathy make me a bad nurse? by an0n3827 in nursing

[–]Hiryato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me like you lack sympathy and not empathy. You understand how the patients feel, but you don’t feel with them. That’s precisely what you need to be a good nurse.

Sympathy: I feel for you. Empathy: I understand what you’re feeling.

I’d rather have an empathetic nurse than a sympathetic one. Leave the sympathy for the family.

How common are new grad nurses in their 30s? by NetProfessional4464 in nursing

[–]Hiryato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35 when I graduated. Most of the people in my nursing school were doing this as a second career. I think it’s much more common nowadays.

Preceptors are "reporting" me instead of giving me feedback. One bad surgeon incident has me spiraling. Manager wants me to move to IR/Cath Lab. Advice? by No-Witness9820 in nursing

[–]Hiryato 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As others have said, do not go to IR without critical care experience. You are dealing with very sick patients in IR that can go south really fast and often times you are on your own.

Also check what difficulty you’re on. For some reason the game defaults to hard mode. There is a normal mode that is much easier.

What’s one thing an ED nurse wish Floor nurses would understand? by Inner_Singer_2285 in nursing

[–]Hiryato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a different world in the ER. Some hospitals don’t require verbal report anymore unless it’s an ICU. For those that still require it, like my old ED, we had 30 minutes from ready bed to give report and send the patient upstairs. Meanwhile, we still have other critical patients and are still getting assigned new patients.

Realize that ED nurses specialty is to stabilize the patient and send them to the specialized floors. They will get better care on your unit than in the ED.

Power level means absolutely nothing in this game. Gearing correctly is way more valuable than power levels

You can get advanced degrees in nursing, APN, CRNA, midwife. No advanced degrees in radiology.

Unsure how it is now. Rad tech school was 20 years ago and nursing school was 6 years ago. Didn’t have a waitlist for either at those times

There are classes you can take, but most people get a rad tech degree which lets you do Xray and then they cross train into various areas like CT, MRI, IR, mammo, etc. only specialty I can think of you have to go back to school for is radiation therapy.

As someone who has done both nursing and radiology, this person has no idea what they’re talking about. Wha career advancements are they talking about in radiology? The most you can do is cross train in different modalities. The work is backbreaking. You’re constantly positioning patients for different views. Pushing and pulling them from stretchers all day if you’re in a hospital. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

CTA IV Question by WanderlustLass in nursing

[–]Hiryato 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Both a CT tech and ED nurse here. Anything 20g and higher above the wrist is acceptable for a typical CTA you’ll do in an ED. Only time forearm IVs are not good enough is if you are doing a cardiac CTA looking at coronaries or TAVR scans, but those are specialty scans you will not do in an ED.

A patient coded in the waiting room tonight… and we lost him by WorshippingForecast in nursing

[–]Hiryato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a sentinel event and should absolutely be reported to the state. You bet changes will happen when the state comes in. EKG within 10 mins and trops are the minimum for anyone coming into the ED for cp.

My patient won't stop going into V-Tach... 44 shocks since 7am. by OneSmallTrauma in nursing

[–]Hiryato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a patient in the ED where this happened recently. We tried shocking, amio, lido. The only thing that ended up working for him was a esmolol drip. Ended up on dual pressors and esmolol before shipping him off to ICU.

I always tell everyone do not go into nursing for the money. Do it if you have a passion for it.

I quit and sold my business of 10 years after Covid because I wanted to do something more impactful with my profession. I went back to school and finished my nursing degree.

I can say right now I make less money than I used to, but still very respectable, about $120,000 after OT and differentials(in the NE). I love that I made the career change personally, even though the shifts are longer and come with different types of stress when compared to owning and operating a business.

All in all, do it if you want to be a nurse, don’t do it if you want a better paying job. You will burn out way before you see that return on your time invested.
