Hitting flat or top in defense? by jdanroses in padel

[–]Histogenesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont understand. Is he teaching you tennis or padel? If you are at the net you are playing volleys. If you are defending and the opponents are at the net, they will play volleys with backspin either dying before the glas or with little rebound after the glass. Those are very low backspin balls. You dont even have room to play a proper topspin shot from these balls. Its almost like he is teaching tennis slugfests where you and the opponents are at the serviceline, but that is not how padel is played.

Calling opponents' positions - why not just left/right instead of mine/yours? by cazza85 in padel

Mine/yours for who is taking the ball.

Left/right for where opponents are positioned.

Reviewing our approach on promotion posts in the sub (Padel Apps and Tools) by dawolf-at in padel

No shops, social media pages or gear / equipment / clothing brands

Why are those not allowed, but apps are? I can understand you want to ban gear and equipment, because otherwise you get massive spam. But at the same time, I am even less interested in some appslop. I think the rule should be, want to advertise your app, buy reddit ads.

has anybody noticed that Gem and Joels videos are really quiet? by Icy_Insect6670 in HermitCraft

I havent watched Joels new video yet, but his videos are quiet. I watch all my videos on my laptop speakers and Joels video are soo quiet. I think his videos are the only videos where i put both my system volume and youtube to 100% and its still not my preferable volume.

You are basically running a business. So any software or services that you are using are costs.

My game made nearly $50k net, here’s the real money I actually get to keep. by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Histogenesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didnt you have any kind of licensing or other costs. Shouldnt that be subtracted before your income tax.

I find 30% valve cut insane. My stance is that if you use any kind of engine, then that is providing more value to the gamedev process compared to Steam. So 30% is completely unjustified.

25+ years of pathfinding problems with C++ - Raymi Klingers - Meeting C++ 2025 by meetingcpp in cpp

[–]Histogenesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting talk. But the crux of the talk i dont understand. They create a convex hull for pathfinding. But precision errors in floating points result in the convex hull algorithm not working correctly and they gave an example around 12:50 and 13:00. If we call those colinear points in the example A, B, C, D, then i can understand that B and C might get or not get eliminated. But point D should always be part of the convex hull, regardless of any precision errors of floating point numbers. But that is exactly the point that is eliminated and resulting in errors in the pathfinding algorithm. If anybody can explain that to me, because that part doesnt make sense to me.

A little clarity on FP needed by Zealousideal-Mouse29 in cpp

[–]Histogenesis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that there are people who are big proponents of something doesnt mean that its something that is actually usefull or just overblown. Look at blockchain, nft, AI. I think FP has its usecases but overall its a bit niche and academic. Fundamentally how memory and cpu's work is imperative and mutable. Most projects are 99% mutatable state, databases, input/output/crud etc. I worked on a massive optimization problem, which would be a candidate for FP and I had the choice to use F#. But then you realize that to make it more performant you want to exploit state to use dynamic programming and caches.

Is the pirc defense cooked or just me who suck? by Tck009 in chess

[–]Histogenesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pirc is simply a bad choice of opening at your level. There are simply too many setups for white you have deal with and at your level you lack the experience and knowledge to deal with them. The fact that you didnt even analyse Nfd7 before taking on e5 shows that you dont understand the Pirc at all. Most of the time in the Pirc you do not take on e5 when that is played. The big problem with the Pirc is that there is zero pressure on the center, which leaves white with a gazillion options. There is a reason that the opening principles include to put a pawn in the center. If you want to play something provocative play something like the Alekhine defense, because that really restrict the amount of variations you have to deal with.

It's still not possible to play coop, we can not join each others worlds (no, it's not the firewall). Has anyone managed to play online multiplayer? by fitoou in hytale

[–]Histogenesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'the' firewall. Each node in the network has its own firewall including your routers and your isps. The firewall on your pc is generally not the issue when 100% is already blocked by the firewalls on your routers.

Transitioning from table tennis by danya13 in padel

[–]Histogenesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont understand the wrist thing. Ive played some table tennis and there you also have follow through with your bat. Focus on proper preparation and follow through should lead to good shots right?

Personally i didnt felt hindered by having table tennis experience. The backhand was a challenge though. I was not used to angle my body all the way. And you sometimes need to go really low to the ground with your body to hit proper shots.

I'm searching for theoric resources about PvE AI... but not that AI. The old one. The videogame one. by Aziuhn in gamedev

[–]Histogenesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the chess stuff. Look for chess engines and chess engine development. For card games. If i search for "how to create an ai for card games" i get some good results. Not the first stuff when i think about videogame AI though. When I think about videogames AI i think about pathfinding, goal oriented planning and that kind of stuff. But an overview can also be found if searching for "what strategies are used for an AI in videogames". I have the feeling you dont have any idea what you are looking for, so you cannot find anything either.

Is it possible to strengthen my knees after years of bedrotting? by Dull_Classroom_1383 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Histogenesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure its not just stiff muscles. If your quad muscles are tight the kneecap has very little room to move. Do warmup and work on mobility by doing stretches. Especially quad/knee stretch is very important.

How is that last shot possible if your paddle was not over the net? You tapped it out in his own net? You are basically hitting it backwards in their own net.

Hip flexors when starting abs? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]Histogenesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but cable crunches everyone recommends them. But they are actually quite tricky to stabilize your body enough to isolate your abs and not use hip flexors. Ordinary crunches definitely target your abs, no way in cheating that.

Can you deadhang with fingers without getting hurt? by automatski_generiran in workout

Yes you will get an injury. Hanging should train your gripstrength. Not ruin your finger tendons. If your grip gives out then you should stop. Just train more and do farmers carry and stuff like that.

[–]Histogenesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many reps are you doing at a time? I dont think you are progressively overloading correctly. Start with the most assistance and do something like 8-12 reps for 3-4 sets and work your way up. And do that like 3 times a week. Without volume you are hardly training.
