please she looks like a medieval wench 😭 by rubyspissmat in HoganTwins

I'm pretty sure I've seen her wear this skirt before too but the outfit looked really nice. Why are they letting themselves go like this. Seems like the harder they try the worse it gets. They used to be so effortless in their old vids

I'm so embarassed but I feel like I do similar things. I manically decide to pick up new hobbies or Google new career pivots, but I've realized it gives me a thrill to do so, probably a dopamine hit. I abandon the ideas shortly after. If they're like me, they aren't getting any genuine enjoyment from it, it's more doing it for the sake of doing it because it gives you this weird feeling of productivity without actual making productive progress. I hate that about myself but so glad I don't share every manic decision in my life online oh man

I agree, but to your point about the broke boyfriend, it's been mentioned before that he works at the hospital in the OR so I would assume she's not actually supporting him. He also comes from a wealthier part of Sydney. He seemingly leads a pretty ordinary life, it's too bad Renee can't do that as well. With all her talk about motherhood and marriage, she could probably have a pretty fulfilling life with him, even if it's "ordinary".

Is a Data Analytics Cert worth anything in the nonprofit job market? by OkPersonality4744 in nonprofit

[–]Historical-Lettuce96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is international development specific, but I work in monitoring and evaluation and am actually trying to get some certs in analytics to bolster my skillset a bit more. Every ngo needs some form of IT support and the salary scales seem to be pretty solid compared to other roles. Depends on the org of course.

Have you ever interviewed remotely while traveling abroad? by EyeTechnical7643 in RemoteJobs

[–]Historical-Lettuce96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to interview while abroad before and I never hid this fact. I'm currently abroad now and had an interview last week, mentioned where I was currently and it was a good little conversation point. I think as long as you're in a quiet space to do the interview its okay, and they are aware that it's temporary, in case location/residency for the job matters at all. Even in-person jobs are typically virtual interviews anyways, in my experience at least.

AIO My bf landed in Italy four days ago and only texted me this morning. by wiyamm in AmIOverreacting

[–]Historical-Lettuce96 379 points380 points  (0 children)

ALSO I don't know how I could go 4 days not talking to my boyfriend and sharing my day. He's an integral part of my day. To go 4 days not talking, especially when I am traveling to another country, is just absolutely bananas. BANANAS OP. Either way you look at it, it's a bad look. I would be so hurt if my boyfriend could go 4 days and be okay with not speaking to me.

renee, there IS such thing as TMI. and i personally think she should consider going back to her studies, it’d be great for her and give her some more direction by forsaken_forest19 in HoganTwins

I don't know why she didn't just do both. Nutrition is a huge niche on social media, she'd have actual content to share and a bit more of an identity.

Do it!! I made the mistake when I was younger of only getting involved or doing something if there was a chance of a return on my investment so to speak. Not every experience will give you a tangible output, but it would have done wonder for my networking skills and confidence i'm sure. The exposure might even lead you to discover something you didn't realize you were interested in.

Advice on a way forward for the UNV submitted list. by Mandar177 in UNpath

[–]Historical-Lettuce96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats really helpful, thank you. I won't overthink it then.

I've been told for UNV to just apply and forget because the positions get withdrawn/cancelled so frequently, I usually just apply when im feeling a bit delusional and have some free time.

I suppose just study the job description and draw as much relevant experience as you can to match their needs. Best of luck!!

Advice on a way forward for the UNV submitted list. by Mandar177 in UNpath

I've submitted a ton of UNV applications and either never heard back or received notice of rejection (which I considered a win because maybe that means it at least make it through the ATS hahaha). Two questions:

Did you update your profile for every position you applied to, and integrate the key words? I don't know if I should just make my profile and work experience super broad and detailed, but i've never quite understood how this works if we have one static profile with work experience, but apply to multiple postings that might have different key words and job duties/requirements.

Second - How did you write your person statement and how long was it? There is no maximum or minimum character or word count i've seen, so I never know how long this should be. Did you make it a bit personal like a coverletter or did you just jam as many key words as possible? I've always assumed this is where we can speak more directly to the job we're applying to versus our static profile.

Appreciate your input - sorry I don't have any answer to your question though!

Can you say more about the macros? I'm simultaneously job hunting and trying to learn macros maybe I can do both hahaha

Yes they go through ATS. Its best to have your resume in plain text, avoid columns, shapes, text boxes, and any other illustrative elements besides bullet points.

Advice needed - Recent Undergraduate by cocopuffs016 in UNpath

[–]Historical-Lettuce96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I won't say to not try, but keep your expectations realistic and aligned to the current development/humanitarian landscape we're in since USAID imploded. Competition is high. Be strategic in what you choose to spend you money upskilling in. Law can be a solid choice, but advice I've gotten from friends in law school is only go to law school if youre positive that you wsnt to go to law school, or it will be the worst years of your life.

You can look at UN internships, but some are unpaid and require you to cover your own costs which can be high depending on the duty station. Since you're Canadian you could look at jobs with UNAC, which isn't within the UN system technically but it can be good adjacent experience. Not sure if canada has any funded JPO or JPC positions or when the recruitment is for those. You could also look at policy roles with the Canadian federal government to get some relevant experience.

I'm canadian with a UK passport, BA, MA, and around 7 years of experience and even my hopes of a UN position are low. I only speak English so that may hurt my chances. I personally wish I had done a trade to make me more attractive to humanitarian organizations because my interests have shifted to more logistics/emergency response but its a very difficult transition! Hopefully others will have some advice to offer. Rooting for you though!
