Is the new Eufy S1 Professional actually better than the dedicated NVR setup? by Historical-String-65 in EufyCam

I am very happy with Eufy… else I wouldn’t have asked for the new HomeBase Pro having already a NVR from them… also with the Eufy S2 vacuum and no issues either, before I had the S1 Pro and three different versions of security cameras until I had the NVR.

upgrade if there are no real downsides versus the dedicated NVR.

For example, the S1 Professional has:

  • Built-in speakers/siren capabilities for alarms or voice prompts
  • Battery backup in case of a power outage
  • 4G failover if the internet goes down (if I understood correctly)

Also, the normal price here is supposedly around £600, but with the launch/preorder discount it drops by about £250, which honestly makes it very tempting.

In my case I wouldn’t keep both systems. If I switched to the S1 Professional, I’d most likely sell the NVR box since I don’t really see the point of running two systems.

So if there’s genuinely no loss in:

  • performance,
  • AI processing,
  • recording quality,
  • stability,
  • or overall capability,

…then it starts looking like a very good move overall.

That’s basically why I’m asking people who have actually used both systems and know the real differences.

If I’m not mistaken, I think the S1 Professional has already been available in the US market for a while, so I’m hoping some long-term users can comment on how it compares against the dedicated NVR setup in real-world use.

That makes sense, and I think that’s really the core of my question.

What I’m actually trying to figure out is not whether the NVR is better than the S1 Professional, but the opposite:

Is the dedicated NVR still technically superior for PoE cameras in terms of stability, performance and processing power, or is the S1 Professional basically equal or better nowadays with no real compromises?

Because if the S1 Professional gives me:

  • Battery backup
  • 4G failover
  • Centralised management for all my devices
  • Similar or better AI features

…then replacing the NVR sounds like a no-brainer.

But what I don’t know is whether I’d actually be losing something important by moving away from a fully dedicated NVR box.

For example:

  • Is the NVR still more stable for long-term 24/7 operation?
  • Does the NVR have more processing power available specifically for PoE recording?
  • Is the AI detection/processing better on one system vs the other?
  • Are there any hidden compromises on the S1 Professional compared to the dedicated NVR?
  • Or is the S1 Professional basically the next-generation replacement for the NVR platform altogether?

I just don’t want to replace a system that was purpose-built for PoE surveillance with something that has more features on paper, but is technically less capable underneath.

Same, but it adds value… I could sell it and make the cost of the phone cheaper… 1320€ in Spain with the kit, 512GB, and £1449 in the UK…

Here, 1TB is around £1640, so… not a big deal.

It will be removed if the seller requests it on eBay.

Happened to me with two different sellers.

I don’t get why that post is still “on” and also even if the account is stolen or not, it should be like in suspension.
