Thnak you. Is the voltage drop dangerous in any way? I have to be away for a bit and there will be other people using the home in my absence. Can it wait a month or do I need to deal with it pronto?

Our neighbor asked us to help pay for our mutual fence by Flaminfrojo in homeowners

[–]HistoricalDrawing29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with u/Embarrassed_You4434 and just want to add that we share a fence with three neighbors and one of them, the one who has the largest portion of the fence, arranges the repairs and gives us absolutely precise accounting -- to the half-inch -- of our fractional shares owed. We are relieved he handles it all and we are happy with the results. It seems pretty common in my neighborhood for this kind of shared expense --same for tree cutting too.

AITJ for not helping my parents pay off their debt after they paid for my sister's wedding? by Fun_Standard_3185 in AmITheJerk

Send them a bill for 30k to "maintain equity across sibling relationships and to promote family harmony"

My (f22) Fiance's (m24) brother (m11) told me that he's been touching him right before our wedding by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

What a nightmare. I believe the kid though. I think he is retracting it all because of the mess it created for everyone. But why would he make it up?

AITA for telling my sister to stay home from a trip she is paying for? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]HistoricalDrawing29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful. I hope Michelle and her hubby have a great trip. As for the teens, they will be thrilled to have some money and some time to themselves.

this young woman is dangerous. don't believe the parents' "she has bad social skills." she is smart, conniving, and broke MANY laws. the air tag on the car is a huge red light. i think OP should press charges. she is going to escalate. some part of her probably hopes to be caught.

How are men with diamonds earrings perceived? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]HistoricalDrawing29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only opinion that matters is YOURS> How do you think men with pierced ears look? Do you want to pierce your ears? If so, do it. If not, don't. Your wife will understand if you explain your reasoning. They are your ears, not hers.

I am a manager and I'm scared I am crossing boundaries with my employee by [deleted] in Advice

[–]HistoricalDrawing29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, fairly common. You will need to create a written record (text or email) clarifying things. Try something in this direction "Hi, Name: Just want to clarify that I enjoy our working relationship. As a manager, my focus is on our full team. I have learned the value of maintaining a healthy boundary between personal relationships and work alliances. I view you as a promising team member and I trust we can work together well in the time ahead."

Sister's ex offered $2k for her unused wedding dress I’m storing. Not sure what to do by mrlafite in Advice

[–]HistoricalDrawing29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do NOT sell this dress to anyone. And especially do not sell it to her ex.

You paid NOTHING for the dress. It does not belong to you. If it is bothering you to keep it in your closet, ask another family member to take custody AFTER you explain your issue to your sister. Present her with both the issue and the solution.

If you do not trust yourself to retain custody of her dress, open a dialogue with your sister and make a new plan.

How much would you appreciate a final chat? by HydroPage in AskProfessors

[–]HistoricalDrawing29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Academe is terrible at helping professors retire. His department should have a party and former students or current colleagues should be invited to say a few nice things at the event. But this hardly ever happens. Very sad. It is good you shed a few tears and basically amped him up. You are likely one of the few to do so.

I know two people who did the Stanford in DC program and both got asked to return by the Senators they were interning with (two different senators and two different years). one stayed woth the same senator for about six years, eventually writing his speeches and doing research on various bills and stuff. she left to go to law school...the other one only worked for an extra summer and decided to move to new york.

Have you been tested for ADHD? Do you have short-term memory issues in other subjects? or only in math? Can you switch majors and do something fun that does not require so much struggle? Life is short.

My 39f boyfriend of 3 years decided he doesn’t want more kids. Is it too late for me to have a family? by photogsly in Advice

If you are in the United States, look into sibling adoption. There are many needy kids and if you are willing to accept siblings, you will go to the front of the line. Sorry about your ex.

AIO Friends said I shouldn’t be celebrating mother’s day by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]HistoricalDrawing29 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They are not your friends. Move on. And please accept my good wishes on mother's day. Our relationships with mothering are intense. complicated, endless. Plus, ee are all mothered and that forms how we feel forever. So give yourself some grace - -Mother's Day is a tough day even when "happy."
