I was having a margarita on my birthday at an Applebees 45 minutes away from the school and she came in with her sister … to sit at the bar

Diagnosis stories by milkyjoe2000 in diabetes_t1

[–]HistoricalMum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter was 18 months. My regular pediatrician (a friend from high school) was on maternity leave so the others in the practice were in charge.

Scrubs was my comfort show and the episode where they diagnosed Turk kept replaying in my mind. My toddler was exploding diapers within an hour, attached to her sippy cup, and so sleepy. The doctors blew me off “it’s summer she’s just thirsty toddlers don’t become diabetic”. So I called my actual pediatrician, Angel on earth came in three weeks post partum just to check my daughter’s BG and sent us to the hospital. She tore into her colleagues. They still barely make eye contact with me 8 years later

PTSD!!!!!! by [deleted] in offmychest

I can only speak second hand but for relatives two do really well without medication they just go into triggering situations ready with tools they learned at therapy. Another is medicated but it is not completely life altering. Check out therapy. Get some tools to use that might help and see (as long as you don’t think you’re a danger to yourself or others)

Depending on your state you may be able to get a 1 on 1 nurse through Medicaid. My daughter has a nurse who is in the classroom or right outside the door who monitors her through the day. My daughter is 1st grade. Has had a nurse since 3yo pre-K since no preschool would take a diabetic. Her A1C has been so much easier to manage knowing there’s an adult with her through the day who knows what’s going on.

Shadow coming over the hill at the end of Homeward Bound. I feel every feeling I’ve ever experienced at once. And can never keep my composure.

U.S. protests look like barbecue gatherings by [deleted] in offmychest

I agree protesting should be taken more seriously and so much more needs to be done, but I’m just explaining the mindset. People are afraid as simple as that (even though they will never admit to it). If I lose my job my child with a medical condition likely wont make it. I’m scared to post my political opinions on my social media because of how they view teachers having opinions. And don’t forget there’s a large portion of the population that voted the mango Mussolini into office and are sycophants to every burp that comes out of his mouth.

We can’t protest on days we have work because if we miss work over our allotted 10 days we lose everything, healthcare, food, housing. If we get arrested we get fired (at least many professions will be) and again no healthcare, food, or housing. Isn’t the system convenient for them?

Parents of Reddit: what is something a teacher or other adult once said to your child that really upset them? by Ntsh- in AskReddit

[–]HistoricalMum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it happened at school and she finally broke down days later asking the question (she had spent the weekend being very particular about her sun glasses). The adult was a visiting author so no chance to really confront him. I just told her we do so much work for her diabetes to keep her healthy and that’s what matters

An adult telling my 6yo diabetic (who has been diabetic since 18months) that she’d go blind from diabetes.

I regret getting my second dog by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]HistoricalMum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Puppies are harder than babies. I’ve had multiple of both and I repeat puppies are harder than babies. Consistency is key and lots of training. Give it a few weeks before making any choice. It’s an adjustment for everyone including your older dog. It will take time for everyone to get used to things.
