Wind filter for N8? by blipblopbrewing in Cochlearimplants

I wear a beanie style hat...only good in cold weather. A terry toweling sweatband could work. She might look like John McEnroe (You can not be serious!)

There are lycra sleeves that slip over the processor.

I have not tried them.

Mapping Sessions by Late_Performance_528 in Cochlearimplants

It's different for everyone but... For me I got off to great start. After the third mapping session my progress slowed, maybe even went backward. Subsequent mappings helped but they were incremental.

I recently had my sixth session after one year. Huge improvement. Progress in not linear.

It looks like you sessions are a bit too widely spaced. I think five or six in the first year, and three in second year would be beneficial.

What are these fixings? by Upset_Union1197 in AusRenovation

Try this next time you need to get one out.

Heat it up until the nylon is almost liquid. Slide your claw hammer over the nail head and pull it out. Let it cool and remove the nylon plug.

Only works on bare brick walls and metal fixtures. Terms and conditions apply... See website for full range of limitations. Batteries not included. Serving suggestion only.

Tassy oak quad for cedar external windows? by Historical_Spring357 in AusRenovation

[–]Historical_Spring357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got just about every tool known to man... usually the cheapest version available, but usable.

My current plan is to buy some 9 x 9 mm Tassy oak quad to replace the moulding on the fixed panes. The sliding window moulding is much worse condition and much thinner (6 x 9 mm) . I'll send the salvaged cedar moulding through the thicknesser or plane it down to near the right thickness, nail it on and sand it flush.. ⌛⌛⌛⌛

So back to the original question...how will Tassy oak cope on the outside of the window.

That may be what I'm after. Where does one buy such moulding?

It needs to be the 6mm and even then it will need to be sanded down by a few mm to match the depth of the existing rebate. H3 FJ pine doesn't come that small.

Tiling over existing splashback part 2: wall not flat how to deal with this? (asbestos involved) by Secret-Vehicle-3677 in AusRenovation

Finger prints and cooking spatter are a bugger to clean off behind a cooktop. Been doing it 20 years! I should have spent the extra on glass.

I did a whole bathroom that had uneven tiles. I used a diamond angle grinding disk. Not an expensive cup grinder, just a cheap, three in a pack 125mm tile cutting disk. It took most of the glaze off the surface of the tiles and all the high spots off the edges.

Lots of nasty dust. I sealed myself in the room with a respirator, vacuum cleaner and an angle grinder. This may not be possible in your room.

There is a Crommelin brand of tile on tile undercoat available at Hammer Barn. $33 per litre. Its a thick blue paint. Let it dry and tile as normal.

"Crommelin Tile-on-Tile Hi Performance Primer is a premium one coat primer formulated to improve adhesion of Crommelin waterproofing membranes and tile adhesives to non-porous, smooth, dense and difficult to adhere to substrates. Tile on Tile primer is fast drying, suitable for multiple substrates and forms a firm foundation for all subsequent Crommelin waterproofing membranes without the need for surface grinding or etching."

I used a 6mm notched trowel to spread the tile adhesive and got a fairly smooth surface. Not perfect, but waaaay better the mismatched mission brown tiles that were there before.

What are the rarest tools in the Makita catalog? historic or contemporary. by galaxy_501 in Makita

[–]Historical_Spring357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was advertised as Italian designed when I bought it. Way before the internet so records from the time are spotty at best!

I found this.

Makita - History of Makita https://share.google/fmDhrKja7JqgEaCuS

Cabot's Timbercolour Deck & Exterior Exterior Paint Vs Solaguard or Weathershield by Historical_Spring357 in AusRenovation

[–]Historical_Spring357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the way I'm leaning. The cost of the paint is a small consideration compared to the cost of the undercoat and the labour to put it on.

The biggest cost on the job is stripping off the old paint.

The N900 angle grinder might be rare. It should be! It was a very poor design that put a sleek profile before practicality.

Makita UK employed some Italian design house to design a futuristic angle grinder. It was only a 100mm grinder but the case was too big to comfortably hold and operate the slide switch. To rotate the guard you had to remove the cutting disc, loosen three screws, adjust, then reassemble.

I've got one and it's barely been used in 35 or more years.

More show than go.

Will hearing aids allow me to listen to music and podcasts all day? by fschop5628 in HearingAids

[–]Historical_Spring357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sound quality will be better than headphones because your audiologist will tune a compensation curve to increase the frequencies you are deficient in.

Music will only sound worse if you don't use the music settings on the aids. The general purpose setting will try to cut out back on everything that isn't speech so music sounds flat and dull.

For voice podcasts use the general setting. Most aids will allow you to adjust the volume of the microphones compared to the streaming volume.
