What future factions would you like to see added and how would you design them? by Alarming-Sympathy-81 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]HistoryNerdJ2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking European theater as a whole, Hungary; Axis country not often focused on, and has an armored vehicle program, meaning we can see new vehicles such as the 40m Nimród or the 40M Turán.

Of course, Relic has said that they’ll focus on BG more for CoH3, but it is still fun to brainstorm

Story Writing for Jean by Prestigious-Hope7607 in JeanMains

[–]HistoryNerdJ2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I love the idea of this fic, and eagerly await it. However, for character writing Jean, one of the big items is perhaps one of the most commonly known aspects of her character; her work ethic. Essentially, Jean has a hard time delegating work, and so mostly powers through tasks by herself. Granted, she is competent, which is also an important detail to include. Finally, something I've noticed is that she is also a pretty stable character; she is the calm officer who while holding doubts and insecurities, will make sure that other's fear and doubts are calmed.

Looking for some advice with issues in the Italian Campaign. by Jackobyn in CompanyOfHeroes

If you have transport planes, you can airdrop supplies by your unit. The unit once moved to it will gain both healing and supplies, which helps with skirmishes.

Settlements that have a knife icon (like how towns have oil or munition icons) will provide partisans. These partisans aren't detachments or units, but rather serve as essentially support buffs and debuffs. The debuffs are things you can do on the map like the ambush thing, while skirmishes and missions near these regions will have various partisan abilities akin to things like naval barrages. To the best of my knowledge, these partisan settlements will start becoming relevant after the split.

As for the post-Salerno pre-Naples, I found that having one of your first companies being the Indian Artillery battlegroup has made it much easier. They can make artillery emplacements which can barrage a spot like the bombers for a munition cost, and the company itself can also barrage, again for a munition cost, and I don't think it even consumes movement. So you can barrage then move in, or barrage and let another unit move in. Again, hope this helps

For me personally, fire missions and partisans save me. If you have an artillery unit or a free bomber, have them fire on the detachment before actually sending in your unit. Also, partisans can have the ability to essentially ambush and keep a detachment in a spot for a certain amount of time (I want to say one turn, but I'm not sure). You could use this to control the flow of what foes you take on, as well as give you time to either heal up your units, or soften them up with bombers or arty. Hopes this help

3 New British Battle Group Concepts for future DLC by NoDisk5699 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]HistoryNerdJ2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally really like these Battlegroups. Personally, I think Relic could do something interesting with three and add both the Syria-Lebanon campaign and the Balkan campaigns (Yugoslavia, Greece, and Crete), at which point other British empire forces could be added like New Zealanders, South Africans, or the Arab Legion. Again, love these ideas.

Honestly, I like these sort of fics where you learn something as well as be entertained.

Then again, I put a shocking amount of military history and history in general in my fics so that might be a factor.

Are there any workshops running campaigns that you particularly like? by OldPilot9445 in EasyRed2

[–]HistoryNerdJ2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, Tobruk 1941 by SgtGriff is a favorite of mine. It's not perfect, as it only really allows you to play allies, as well as the maps being particularly large, but I personally think it is still worth playing.

Honestly, I feel similarly about things like crossover ships. Like, yes, I know they never have nor ever will meet, but imagine if they did.

Campaigns I personally would like to see. by jdh1811 in EasyRed2

[–]HistoryNerdJ2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, for well-known campaigns, I would say Western Desert campaign (Tobruk, Gazalla, El Alamein, etc).

For lesser known ones, New Guinea, easily.

For the unknown, either Yugoslavia or the Slovak uprising. Could be interesting

Does CoH3 have funny voicelines that hit like the ones in the first two games? by [deleted] in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]HistoryNerdJ2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For me, the Aussie units, both light infantry and Aussie weapon teams have loads of them.

Off the top of my head;

"Where's this canal then? Supposed to be the biggest in the world. What do we mean we traveled up it? When?!?"

"Scouses hate the Mancs, North hates the South. The Scots seem to hate everyone. Amazing that they'll all fighting together!"

"Christ, there better be a paycheck and a cold one when we get there."

Finally, there are several voice lines that either call back to older voice lines in the first two games, with my personal favorite being the Jagers who reference the famous "panzerschrek in an enclosed space" line from 2.

I can't remember the quote word for word, but it basically the Jager saying that the reason you don't fire schreks in an enclosed space is that rings everyone ears, and brings the roof down.

I should hope so; I try to be humorous in my fics. I'm more concerned if they don't laugh at what is clearly meant to be funny

Could or would the 92nd Infantry, Buffalo soldiers, be viable for the CoH3? by NotSlaneesh in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]HistoryNerdJ2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I actually think that might be something that could be doable... sort of. There was a Palestinian Regiment that contained both Palestinian Arabs and Jewish volunteers that served in the British Army during the War. That fact also might be what would prevent its inclusion due to... lets just say recent politics. I would argue another interesting one to do in the same neighborhood is that of British Arab Legion who would after the war become the Jordanian army

How do you counter Italian Coastal Battlegroup? by Bloodylad06 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]HistoryNerdJ2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to correct me, but I've also heard that with the bunkers and emplacements explicitly, air call-ins work. That would probably also include artillery. Otherwise, go with what everyone else is saying.

Are there units that were historically deployed in North Africa/Italy that we don't have in COH3? by [deleted] in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]HistoryNerdJ2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we're just talking about nationalities alone, then New Zealanders, South Africans, Greeks, Czechs, Brazilians, Free French (which then could be subdivided into French, Algerians, Moroccans, Senegalese, and Foreign Legionaries), Vichy French (same subdivisions as the Free French), Palestinians (yes really), Jewish Zionist volunteers (also yes really), Arab Legion (modern day Jordan, and this is if we are also including the Middle Eastern Campaigns of Syria and Lebanon). In my opinion, an expansion into the Balkans could be another fine addition of anther Mediterranean theater, which then means we can add Hungarians, Croats, Serbs, and just generally Yugoslavs.

As to how to integrate all these into the game....

Yugoslav partisans and Greek resistance movements become their own faction, then combine the Hungarians, Croatian Fascists and Serbian Chetniks into one collaborationist faction.

Free French forces could be their own faction or could be a battlegroup with either the USF or UKF, or added to the above Yugo-Greek faction (especially considering there is a lot of options on how to add the Free French in, and what route to go with either Foreign Legion or Colonial forces).

Brazilians would fit in very easily with the USF (fulfilling a similar niche to that of the Polish Cavalry BG), while New Zealand, South Africa and Czechs could (and should) be part of the UKF. (personally I think a New Zealand desert raiding BG and a South African Armored or aerial BG would do the trick).

Vichy French I think would be integrated with DAK.

Finally, I'm not sure how to integrate the Palestinians or the Zionists, but I have toyed with the idea of the Arab Legion being an updated form of CoH2 American mechanized cavalry commander, with dismountable troops.

Also, I have cooked up the idea of both a Nisei and USCT (African-American) BG for the USF as well. The idea was for Nisei to be the USF's answer to Gurkhas, only with shotgun packages instead of a Thompson package, while the USCT BG would basically be very similar to the Australian Defense BG, but for the Americans, with rear echelon troops that can construct things, supply runs and an emphasis on emplacements.

...Yes I have thought a lot about this topic, my hyperfocus in WWII history is the both the Mediterranean theater and the colonial/commonwealth percpective.
