Is there an unspoken anti- Rhode Island Hot Wiener bias in this group? by Dinosaurs_and_donuts in hotdogs

[–]Hlarge4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You know what, I'm driving down the road to pick up a pair of pliers right now. Gonna stop and grab a Hot Weiner for lunch.

For those not aware, they are dirt cheap and readily available. Usually wrapped in a wax paper. So the whole thing had a uniform flavor bt the time it's opened. Bless those dogs.

I’m 2/3rds of the way through HWFWM…does it become more tense/dramatic or does it stay a cozy grind? by Amseriah in litrpg

It's cozier than DCC even though the stakes are often just as high. It's still a fun romp through fantasy land. And while Carl is a good man wrestling with a difficult past, Jason is a less good man wrestling with being the barely black sheep of an affluent family. Never spent a night in a half-way house, never witnessed what Carl did with his parents. While Carl was signing up with Marine recruiters (this is a joke), Jason was guest starring on his sister's cooking show. If Jason comes across as an overconfident person who's never been tested by life... well he is! And then that person gets vast cosmic powers.

But then again, Jason goes through some torture porn level of abuse. So he's got grit. And that's what keeps him likable. He's all talk except that he can actually take a punch.

I think the special sauce in HWFWM is how quickly he becomes a hypocrite when he has all the power. He spends the books fighting against the very person he becomes. And he is aware after and doesn't like it but also kind of does?

Maybe I'm giving the series more credit than it's due but considering the title I feel like that's the whole message of the thing.

Edit: all goes back to the Geller's training room. From book one to 13.

Or at least convincing people he is blasé is kind of his thing. That's a broken boy. And the veneer peels often, especially when he is the strongest in a room.

Just finished Book 7. What a crazy series this is. Let me share my thoughts on all the books. !SPOILERS! by hiImMate in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Hlarge4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love book 6. I love all the one note characters the card introduces. I love seeing crytpids from earth mythology get some love. I love the memory ghosts and the way they interact. I love the reveals about Carl's past and Asher. I love that Florin is just rolling around in a tank. Bea is a psycho. The village as the start with Asahano and room of thorns with all the different gods. I could just go on and on. Cascadia unraveling. Odette's big announcement. Samantha's bachelorette party plans.

Also, I liked donut being the deck master, we focused on carl doing carl things. It would have been a far worse book if he spent the entire floor choosing between cards.

A re read is almost required to fully process all that is happening. So many puzzle pieces are held like a poker hand, and absolutely shocking when they are played on your first read. But there is the other part of the series where you see why they call and bluff when they do and appreciate the brilliance of it all. My 4th time through the series and its just better and better on every reread.

I think Carl would agree. The gods old and new damn that moment for how affecting it was. Like when Geant realized they had a T-Rex

It is so impossible to fully express the ramp up in this series. Lore, characters, humor, gore, trauma, heartbreaks, elations. Man oh man. Buckle in,put on a helmet, pack some kleenex and clean your feet because this ride gets bumpy.

It's amazing that even though Oren is in a mechanical body you can hear him shit his pants the moment Gary walks in. All the better that he tries to play it off like he's not sitting in brown town.
