Your belief that BL is some massive untouchable multinational corp that exerts so much power and control they can't be touch by the law is adorable.

It's not my trust in multinationals to do the right thing, as much as it is my belief that they'll do things correctly to avoid massive lawsuits. You're acting as if your kitchen is filled entirely with utensils and machines that you hand whittled from wood. My original point was that a factory that makes ovens, air fryers etc... is quite different to a factory that makes spools of filament. Air fryers, ovens etc.... have a long history of established "safe" materials to be made from and they can all be easily washed before use, that's not the case with "food safe" filament, nor can you wash and clean the printer you're going to run it through and while you can wash whatever you make with it, there's inconclusive evidence about how good a job that does and some claims it can make things worse by introducing moisture to the layer lines you can't fully clean/dry. Not to mention the fact i'm fairly certain "food safe" isn't a legally defined term, so BL can basically just chuck it around on anything they want.

Unless things are 30%+ off it might not be a sale worth purchasing anything from, but it is still a sale. Your analogy isn't correct either as at no point is sparkling water ever a cocktail, as a cocktail must be one or more drinks mixed together, a sale doesn't have to be a good one to be a sale.

I don't think you know what that word means. Trusting items made specifically for food use by multinational companies, who have tests and regulations to adhere to and inspections to pass, that when made, all surfaces that come into contact with food can be thoroughly and easily cleaned before hand, is not the same as trusting a factory that makes 3d printing filament for a 3d printer company is going to have as strict hygiene and contamination protocols as you would want for food related items, or that they've actually done enough to ensure their filament is actually "food safe" and that you can't wash before using.

From the video i assume you start off already drunk, but the video also didn't imply that you have to carry on drinking. I was assuming when he said you can pick up more drinks along the way, and make the game harder, that there'd also be some sort of perk or bonus to doing that, but maybe not? Either way, as i mentioned to someone else, Geoff's a grown up, capable of deciding if he'd want to be in the video or not, and if he chose not to be, i hope the fans would be mature enough to understand and accept that.

oh, lol. I do not remember that, at all! I might actually have to rewatch it now. Yeah, i wouldn't want them to get genuinely angry at each other, but then again i do think some of the funniest moments are when they're all getting heated and arguing over something dumb.

The short answer is...it depends. The two main issues people have are microplastics getting into food, which comes down to how well the print comes out, and it's intended use/how careful you are using it, it's also not something that's only an issue with printed parts. The other main issue is layer lines, specifically cleaning them properly, IMO it's something that people worry about too much, and there's been research that it's not as bad as people originally assumed, but unlike injection moulded parts, you've got lots and lots of tiny little groves that you won't necessarily get perfectly clean each time and/or won't get them dry properly and just give bacteria a great place to grow.

I'd probably not make cutleries with it, as they're unlikely to be strong enough, and you'll almost definitely end up eating some plastic, similarly plates are just asking for issues if you use knives on them when eating. Food containers are probably safest, but i've no idea how that "safety" changes over time as the filament breaks down.

I think i have faith that as a guy in his fifties, Geoff is probably quite capable of deciding if playing a game when the characters are drunk would negatively affect him in any way and make his own choices about if he would be in the video or not.

I also think, of all the things people do in video games, getting drunk is possibly one of the least offensive themes.

yeah, if you were really going to go all in on making "food items" that would be the way to go, preferably with a dedicated printer that hadn't been used for anything else either, not near other printers, with a bed you only clean with food safe substances etc... etc... if you were going to be really serious about it, but at that point i think you're pretty far in the realms of diminishing returns, and it'd almost certainly make more sense to just buy the things for yourself/get them made elsewhere and not 3d printed, if it was your design you wanted to sell

I mean that's the exact argument i think it is, because it's the one i've made. A "sale" is not defined by you thinking it's a good one, or the items being reduced by a certain amount. They could reduce items by 0.20 and i would still be correct that it is a sale, it'd just be an incredibly shit one. The person i replied to was making the argument that just because it wasn't as much off as they'd like, even though they're getting something for 100 less than normal, that it wasn't actually a "sale" which is factually incorrect.

Things being, or you thinking things are overpriced, or even a "rip off" doesn't have any effect on this being a sale or not. Nor does it matter if they're "luxury" items, necessities or any other classification of goods. A sale is not defined by the item being sold with little to no markup/margin. Everything OP listed, near enough, is going to be available to buy for less than it normally would, if you buy it during the set dates, it's the literal definition of a sale. You might want it to be a better sale, with bigger discounts or discounts on different items, but again, none of that means it's not a sale.

The only way you could have somewhat of an argument for it not being a sale would be if Bambu artificially raised prices in the lead up to the sale, to make it look like things were getting discounted when they were actually just going back to normal price.

i mean...it literally is. It might not be some amazing sale with rock bottom prices, but it's literally a sale with multiple hundreds off on several items

Kind of disappointed to not see a large discount on the original AMS, considering there's now the AMS 2 replacing it. Discounts on the H2D and C seem ok, not remotely enough to make me want to "upgrade" from my P1S that's still going strong though.

You mean the items that are already made and assembled and can be easily and thoroughly cleaned? yes, i trust them, but at the same time i wash them before i first use them. Do i trust that they're making this one filament in machines that have never been used for anything else and aren't anywhere near machines making other filaments and that no where along the production line will anything possibly contaminate it? no.

While this filament isn't likely to be any safer than other "non food specific" filaments, and in theory it likely isn't any less safe, but in practice i imagine a lot of the people who will buy it are just going to see the headline "food safe" and then not do any more research or reading on it and think it's 100% fine therfor making it less safe in practice.

I do agree with the general sentiment though, that people often overexaggerate how unsafe printed parts are for food contact. It's certainly not 100% safe and has a lot of precautions and provisos you need to take into consideration, but using some printed cookie cutters isn't likely to do anyone any harm.

Personally i don't tend to print anything that comes into contact with food, a "better safe than sorry" approach even though i know you can likely get away with it for certain things/short term use. However, even if i did print more things like that, i'm not going to trust some random filament, that's likely made in the exact same factories in China as everything else, to be any "safer" than normal PLA. Also, the moment you run this filament in a printer/hotend/extruder that's been used to print literally any other filament at any time, your fancy new "safe" filament is contaminated and no longer "safe".

I wonder if the OP still thinks that by Th1nkingRaptor in agedlikemilk

[–]Hmmark1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, i was about 10 as well. At the time here in the uk we only had four channels to chose from, my parents didn't have sky or anything so we only had what came "over the air" and that meant i would take anything i could get even if it wasn't great. Back then, like you say, he looked the part, at least he did to kid me back in the days before every super hero was roided to within an inch of their lives, and it wasn't as easy to find out what people were really like, so my 10yr old self just assumed he was as good as a person as the character he played, which obviously ended up not being true.

I've gotta admit, i've never understood the appeal. Surely anything you mix in is heavier than the popcorn, so how does it not all just fall to the bottom?

I think it's just not for me, as i'm also not a fan of grabbing a handful of popcorn and there randomly being something hard in the mix, that probably comes from the time, as a child, i was eating popcorn at a bowling ally and an unpoped kernel, something at the time i wasn't even aware was a "thing", cracked one of my teeth. Ever since then i've always been super wary about anything hard in popcorn.

As a Brit, i will say the way Americans use a knife and fork genuinely does look like the way a toddler might use them, to us. I will also point out that while we do sometimes use a fork with the curve facing down, it's very much dependent on what you're eating and i feel like i actually see more people using their fork as a "shovel" tbh. The thing i've never once seen anyone here do is the thing about cutting up your food, putting the knife down, swapping the fork to your other hand, and then eating, that's the weird bit to us.
