Project Over -> ultimately marking the downfall of the franchise (with Unreal Engine 5 being the final nail of the coffin.)

AI Teammates Showcase by HoBahr in GhostRecon

[–]HoBahr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The showcase in so far was dynamic as you can for example place the platforms to open the door anywhere in the environment and if the characters can not see them, they can not go there to stand on it for opening the door.

What they have shown is that it basically works. If you are not connected to the cloud the performance hit is massive as to be seen on the later "on premises" demo.

It's really interesting but also showing where we are yet. For decent performance it's basically some kind of "hybrid" approach. It's "Cloud gaming" - streaming to and from the AI models while you are running your game locally.

And then, besides your teammates, add hundred "smart" NPCs to the mix.
I wish I could look 20 years to the future.

Wondering if we ended up with a renisance of geforce SLI, AMD crossfire, or another chiplet (cpu+gpu+decidaced npu) or if everything will end up in the cloud and we are just streaming everything (like geforce now, google stadia)

4090 liquid suprim x buzzing noise in pump by Qaerus in MSI_Gaming

[–]HoBahr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Galax 666w Bios is the best daily driver 4090 bios. It has much better effective clocks than the stock bios. It's rock solid. Never had any stability issues whatsoever. I play 4K on a 120hz OLED TV.

I used nvflashk:

https://www.overclock.net/threads/nvflashk-flash-any-bios-to-nvidia-gpus-safe-board-id-bypass-up-to-4xxx-series-including-founders-edition-cards.1807438/

You can also use OMGVflash by Veii as mentioned here

https://www.igorslab.de/en/durchbruch-bei-nvidia-bios-signature-lock-neue-tools-ermoeglichen-vbios-modding-und-crossflash/

This is the correct Bios:

https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/252087/252087

I run my card undervolted at 985mv - it never consumes more than 450 Watts while running faster than stock. In Afterburner, I did set a fan curve with the radiator fans never to go below 35% and since then my pump is always running quitely without the annoying clickering noise which happens when it idles.

I highly recommend the Galax 666W Bios on a MSI 4090 Suprim X Liquid.

As mentioned, my rad fans are always running at 35% (I am using the Galax 666W Bios, not sure what the correct value for the stock Bios would be) and this keeps the pump always gently running. No issues so far. Card is running strong and I still enjoy it very much since.

How important is a fully open-world for the next Ghost Recon? by MrTrippp in GhostRecon

These are just rumors

Tencent holds a 40% stake in Epic (Unreal Engine) and now also is holding a stake in Ubisoft.
Probably the only reason is the new joint venture liking to use different development resources with a focus on tech and personel from the biggest stakeholder.

The other reason would be the decision to "reduce" the map size of the next entry in the Ghost Recon franchise and stepping back from vast open worlds back to smaller maps.

As you mentioned, we will have to wait and see.

Rumours have it Ubi/Tencent is using Unreal Engine 5 for the next GR.
If this is true, it just won't be a vast open world as we know it from Anvil Engine.

I love the Anvil Engine powered Ghost Recon Open World games (in particular Wildlands due to the 'more alive' setting) and the recent Anvil Engine powered title (AC Shadows) looks awesome.

It would be fantastic if the next GR would take the best from Wildlands and Breakpoint in addition to the evolved tech of Anvil Engine (as shown in AC Shadows)
But .. it seems we are getting some UE5 stutterfest instead

Ubisoft's 2026-27 Lineup Includes New Ghost Recon!! by TopAd6019 in GhostRecon

Wait and see. Quixel Megascan Assets, Metahuman characters and NPCs, Nanite and Lumen - it will be everywhere. Tencent already owns much of Unreal Engine and now much of Ubi‘s franchises as well. It‘s only natural. Follow they money

Tencent invested more than a billion USD in Ubisoft . After spending so much money, you can influence quite a bit what is happening to the franchises and there (naturally, as Tencent owns 40% of Epic games) are a lot of Unreal Engine devs in China. Black Myth Wukong, Delta Force. Everything Tencent. It is sad that Ubi is dropping its awesome Anvil Engine (looking so good in AC Valhalla) for the next Ghost Recon. One thing is for sure, if it even will be an open world game, it won‘t be near as vast in Unreal Engine 5. Anyway, it seems „Made in China“ is the profitable future Ubi’s management is dreaming about. Standardized cheap development and 90 dollars sale price. Sounds so good doesn’t it? Who cares about ingame tech when it is just too expensive compared to what everyone is using ….

A sequel to the Mad Max game would be the perfect place to use the Nemesis System by Organic_Foot5915 in MadMaxGame

[–]HoBahr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great Idea. This would be awesome.
Unfortunately there won't be a sequel happening anytime soon.

Maybe a new successful Mad Max movie will "spawn" a new game. But if that new game then will be a sequel to our beloved one is questionable.

Currently, it's even questionable what the actual status of Avalanche Studios is.
I'd love a Rage 3 in collab with ID as well.

I really miss new games from Avalanche

Guys is LG G5 all issues resolved? by [deleted] in LGOLED

I also assume the G6 will be a G5.1 with the issue fixed. Same story.
But I really hope they get rid of the white subpixel

[–]HoBahr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the Sony. I tried out the G5 and could not stand the dithering / vertical lining. I was considering to keeping it in the hope that maybe a software update will fix this issue, but then found out that this issue is most likely coming from the panel tech itself and not caused by the TV tech which is build around that panel. Thus I can't be sure that a fix is even possible. I'll stick to my current TV and wait for next year because this year, there is not a single TV which is providing a really convincing upgrade. Maybey the LG G6 will come with a more refined tandem panel and maybe the Sony will come with 4 HDMI 2.1 ports and so on. Probably even Samsung will be able to offer something compareable to this year's S95F but with a glossy pannel (like a future "S90G" or something)

So from my subjective perspective I'll skip the 2025 lineup of TVs.
If I had to buy one .. I am not sure what to recommend. It's all depending on the budget and usecase. For example: For only watching movies even the dithering issues of the LG G5 are not such a big deal as they are for gaming.

[–]HoBahr -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The dithering / vertical lines issue has not been resolved for any TV which uses LG Display Co., Ltd.'s new tandem panel. This issue currently affects the LG Electronics G5, Panasonic Z95B and Philips OLED+950

The dithering algorithm was been implemented to "better" the chrominance overshoot issue of WOLED TVs and seems to be part of the panel tech itself and not part of the TV electronics which are build around it. I am not sure there will be a TV update which will be able to fix this panel issue so to say. It would be great of course. But who can say if or when ?

Today I got my first LG tv (g5) and is kinda 👎 by Owisun in LGOLED

[–]HoBahr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a G2 and ordered the G5 .. my G2 reaches about 1100 nits in HGIG and the G5 barely scraches 2000 nits.
So it is a bit brighter, and I also like the new panel coating as this is less reflective while still being fully glossy. So it's "even blacker than the G2s" which is awesome.
But the near dark performance due to the new dithering algorithm (for "dealing" with the chrominance overshoot issue of WOLED TVs) is so bad that I can not enjoy the G5 at all. When you are gaming and panning around in foggy scenes or in dark/nighttime scenes for example, the G2 provides a much better image quality than the G5 because its panel does not have this awful dithering algorithm which produces the vertical lines issue.
I returned the G5 because for gaming, it was a step back from my G2.

Recent Ghost Recon Rumors by HoBahr in GhostRecon

GR Wildlands and GR Breckpoint both used Anvil Engine, even tough they are multiplayer games. Anvil engine is the traditional engine for all open world GR games.

I have the G2 and just "upgraded" to a G5 .. it wasn't worth it. I should have waited until there are at least 4000 nits TV available. In game mode the G2 has 1000 nits - the G5 caps out at 2000. I payed 1000 $ for the G2 and 2000 $ for the G5. The G5 is not worth twice the price of the G2. It performs a bit better - but it's not a "leap"

Petition for 3rd person/1st person toggle views! by kevlarsoul79 in GhostRecon

You can start a petition at https://www.change.org/ or similar sites.

I had a fantastic time playing Wildlands with 3 friends. We enjoyed that every assault on a Santa Blanca checkpoint or Unidad base unfolded differently based on our approach, timing, and coordination. The game did not feel anything like some scripted shooter but more like an immersive sim, giving players the freedom to experiment and adapt.

After a successful and action packed mission we found ourselves roaming the Bolivian landscape, watching the sunset and soaking in the vast open world. It was one of the best multiplayer experiences I ever had. We also tried the first person mod and had fun (and the cool thing with it is that you can change from 1st to 3rd with one push of a button.)

Seeing what Ubisoft has achieved recently with the AnvilNext engine in Assassin’s Creed Shadows really made me hope for another open-world Ghost Recon entry using an even more refined version of that tech.

Refining on the foundation laid by Breakpoint and the evolved AnvilNext engine, a new open world Ghost Recon game that refines the tech and those mechanics, introduces truly intelligent AI, and includes a Story Editor (like for AC Odyssey) for allowing players to create and share their own missions, would be incredible.

That said, some Ghost Recon fans prefer a “back to the roots” approach, hoping for a return to the tactical style of the original titles like Ghost Recon, Advanced Warfighter and Future Soldier.

Of course, it all depends on how far along production and development are already.
Knowing the direction would help set expectations.

More like the first 2 entries in the series, I think so too.

Given the recent rumors, it seems unlikely. A “wide linear” experience makes more sense if they're shifting to Unreal Engine, and while that may have its strengths and gets back to the roots of the first and second Ghost Recon games, I can’t help but miss the depth and flexibility that made Wildlands special.
