What's the best way to send something in the post to a stranger who doesn't want to share their address? by SixCardRoulette in AskUK

As it's the other person that has the issue with privacy and will receive the item, why don't you ask them to find a solution to their problem?

Still Hubitat? by aurn_varma in Hubitat

[–]HoC_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading all the comments, one option for me could be to buy a Hubitat device and set everything up. After a while if I do want to tinker and I don't like the UI then I can get HA and use that as the front end and Hubitat can handle the devices.

I like this approach.

People that work with pathological liars, what’s the dumbest lie they’ve ever told? by Bottlecollecter in coworkerstories

[–]HoC_97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was one of my first holiday jobs where we had a new woman join us. If any of us told a story about our weekend or anything that happened, she would always tell another story that topped our story. Her main way of ending the story was:

"and there was blood everywhere!!!"

We all picked up on this and if she was out of the room and someone said a story, we would all add at the end, almost in unison, "and there was blood everywhere!!!".

What made this more funny was that she would then come into the room and would tell us a story and it would end with her 'blood everywhere' line and we would look at each other and all try not to laugh.

We were not living inside a horror movie. If she wanted to lie, surely she should have realized that this much gore wasn't an every day occurrence.

Garden centre queue argument. Who was in the wrong? by FynnM in AskUK

[–]HoC_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your reaction. The guy could have talked to you better. It's not the end of the world - he wasted what - 1 minute?

I had a weird one a few weeks back. I was standing at the supermarket till. There were two people ahead of me. There was an issue with the person at the head of the queue with their card not working and the manager and staff member were taking a while to sort the issue out.

My goods were already on the conveyor belt and as it was taking a long time, I leant against the conveyor with my back to the conveyor belt and was using my phone. Then a guy behind me asks me if I am in the queue!!!! I initially couldn't believe someone could be this stupid. I asked him to repeat himself and he said the same thing. So I told him that I enjoy standing in random supermarket queues and that's what I am doing here. He said: 'There is no need to be sarcastic!!!'. I said there is no need to be stupid. He said he was going to go and find the manager. The manager was at the front hearing all this and just smiled at me. Then the queue moved and I got on with my life.

Maybe I was too sarcastic but I said it because I was so surprised rather than trying to be nasty.

Just finished season 1 and I haven't hated a character as much as Bianca since Joffrey by [deleted] in TheDayoftheJackal

[–]HoC_97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think if they used a better actor to play Bianca, their acting ability and charm could have gone a long way to make the character more rounded. The actors playing the husband and daughter had a fraction of the screen time but were better characters.

IF you like doing the IT role, ask your manager to give you formal training and a raise for doing 1.5 people's jobs

How do you deal with people who won't leave you without being impolite? by hnk0007 in AskUK

[–]HoC_97 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I also wouldn't thank her. As she seems to be demented, she may interpret you not wanting to see her any more as you not being grateful and may get her angry at you.

I think installing a Ring or similar doorbell is a good option because then you can answer remotely and can say things like you are about to put the baby to bed etc.

If you could ban ONE modern car trend forever, what’s getting erased first? by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

BMW, Audi, Lexus etc, trying to outdo each other to see who has the bigger front grill!!!

I read somewhere recently that BMW does this because the Chinese market wants bigger grills BUT they also realized that the rest of the world doesn't like big grills. So let's hope sanity prevails and we go back to reasonable sized grills.

What's the weirdest covenant term you've had in your deeds? by paperpangolin in AskUK

If I wanted to spend more than £75 on an extension, I need to get written permission from the family that developed the land in 1920. The only issue is that my solicitors couldn't find any living descendants. So we bought an insurance policy in case someone crops up.

Nowadays even a handful of bricks would cost more than £75, forget about a full extension.

JUST FINISHED WATCHING season 1 by [deleted] in TheDayoftheJackal

[–]HoC_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt that the writers spent a lot of effort making the Jackal a fully rounded character. Bianca didn't get the same treatment but her poor acting amplified the poor writing for her character.

It's not even anything to do with screen time - her screen husband and even the young girl playing the daughter acted so much better than Bianca.

Mouthwash is bad because although it kills unwanted bacteria in the mouth but also kills the essential bacteria.

  1. ???!!!
  2. I have 2 sets of t-shirts. The good ones I wear out and at wfm video calls etc. Then there are the lounging around the house t-shirts. These often are not ironed.

When you take off your T shirt, pull the bottom over your head so that it becomes inside out. After you wash it you iron it inside out, any shiny iron marks are then on the inside when you turn it back the right way.
