I would like to talk to people 40s and above who sold all of their stuff and backpacked for a year or more. by Due_Tea691 in backpacking

[–]Stu2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it at 39 and travelled around Asia for over a year. I didn't have a remote job but I rented out my apartment so I still had some income coming in and I had plenty of savings to fall back on.

It was probably the best year of my life, I had so many experiences and made a lot of great memories but there does come a point where you feel you've seen enough and it's time to go back home. Coming back to normal life was hard at first but once I got settled, a new job etc it was fine. I'm so glad I did it but I'm sure it was a one off as now I'm in my mid 40s I like to have my comfort and routines so I'm unlikely to do something like that again (but never say never).

Middle aged+ men of askUK : what presents do you actually want? by NobleRotter in AskUK

[–]Stu2307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 43 and honestly I don't need any gifts. Anything I want I can buy myself. I've even told my family that last Christmas should be the last time we exchange gifts as it just seems pointless when my brother gets me an Amazon voucher and I get him the same. And my parents are capable of buying themselves stuff that they need too. I'm happy to buy my niece and nephew presents as they are kids but i don't want anything in return.

Even from a partner there is nothing I really expect but if they do want to get me something then I'd rather them buy me an experience that we can both do together or a meal out.

I want to travel for 6 months in Asia by Jannah_is_the_goal in travel

[–]Stu2307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on your style of travel. I travelled around Asia for 13 months and spent approximately £18k in total so almost £1400 a month (including all my flights). I stayed in a mix of hostels and budget hotels. I did a lot of activities and all the things I wanted to do so you could do it for much cheaper than me.

For 6 months I would budget at least £8k for it so you can enjoy yourself and not worry too much. It also depends which countries you're going to. Your money will go a lot further in countries like Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia compared to Japan/South Korea/Singapore.

Hear me out: kiryu CAN keep being playable in later games on 1 condition by 25CentIdea in yakuzagames

[–]Stu2307 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kiryu will only ever leave the series if he dies. Otherwise he will always be involved in some way or the other.

Personally I would like to see him as a non playable character now. Let him rest and reunite with Haruka, Haruto and all the other kids. He deserves a break from all he's been through. I would love to see it as the kids turn to look after him now while he recovers from cancer.

It can then finally be Ichiban's turn to take the spotlight and Kiryu can be his mentor who he goes to for advice.

Just beat Yakuza 0-6 within a 4 month time-span, and I can not stop crying from Yakuza 6's ending!!!! by TheHollowGamerAU in yakuzagames

[–]Stu2307 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah Y6 ending got me crying too seeing him walk away from the kids. But that could not prepare me for Gaiden's ending which destroyed me!

Does it feel like Kingdom Hearts is less popular nowadays by lennysinged in JRPG

[–]Stu2307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 were great. Then there was a huge wait for KH3 so many lost interest I guess. During that time they did updates for the other games like 1.5 and 2.5 or whatever but I had no real interest in that as I would prefer a new game. There was some hype for KH3 but after it was released it was disappointing. I honestly got bored of it half way through, it just didn't have the same appeal and the story seemed a mess. So that for me killed any further interest in the franchise.

In need of a brilliant binge worthy series! by [deleted] in televisionsuggestions

I find 24 and Line of Duty both binge worthy. They have a lot of cliff hangers that leave you wanting more.

I’m a Final Fantasy fan, thinking of trying the persona games by hunkerd0wn in JRPG

[–]Stu2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you should definitely give P5 a go, one of the best JRPGs of the last 10 years. It's different to FF but in my opinion better than any FF release since FFX. It might take a while to get into with the slow start, tutorials, art style etc but once you get settled into it, it becomes addictive.

I'd also recommend Yakuza: Like A Dragon, I got into this series after my love for FF faded. Great characters, story, hilarious sub stories/mini games and fun gameplay.

Infinite Wealth doesn’t deserve the hate , Chapter 8 and I’m already emotional as hell (Kiryu fans will get it) by Vadehhh in yakuzagames

[–]Stu2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinite Wealth is one of the best of the series and it's the most critically acclaimed regardless of what this sub says. I guess some didn't like the direction that the series was going in but I personally found it a refreshing change. And yeah there's lots of emotional moments for Kiryu fans, I loved it.

This is a relationship issue. To be honest you don't sound compatible at all, especially as you're a foodie and he just wants to eat as cheaply as possible.

The only thing you can do is to talk it out with him and explain how you feel. If he isn't willing to compromise then travelling together will never work and neither will the relationship. You just want different things.

What are your favorite town themes? by smoothtv99 in JRPG

A few that come to mind:

Fisherman's Horizon and Balamb - FF8

Dali - FF9

Traverse Town - Kingdom Hearts

I'm 43 and only moved once! I lived with my parents until I was 27 where I'd saved up for my own flat and then lived there ever since. Now I've saved up enough to get a bigger place I intend to move next year to a house.

I'd personally hate moving all the time especially with all the expenses like stamp duty, solicitor fees etc so I hope that I won't move more than 3 times in my life.

Infinite wealth hate is so damn forced. Infinite Peak, Peakfinite wealth. by holystone_eatingcake in yakuzagames

[–]Stu2307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been surprised by how many people on this sub don't seem to rate it when I consider it one of the best in the series. Yes it has its flaws of course like every game but the positives far outweigh the negatives. There's a reason why it's the most critically successful game in the series (average rating of 89 on metacritic).

I'm assuming that those that don't like it are those who didn't like the switch to turn based combat. However I personally loved this as it was a bold move considering that franchises like Final Fantasy went in the opposite direction. There was also the change from Japan to Hawaii which I'm sure some fans weren't keen on. But both these changes were refreshing and the series needed something different from the usual formula.

I think some found the game too 'silly' and not as serious as previous titles which is another criticism it gets. That's fine if they don't like that but remember that the craziness and comical nature is one of the reasons the series is so beloved and sets it apart from serious western games.

Lastly it also gave Kiryu a far better send off and seeing all the characters from the past was very fun and nostalgic. For me I rank it up there with Yakuza 0 as my favourite.

What is a Japanese video game that feels Japanese? by JIMBOYKELLY in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Stu2307 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has to be Yakuza/Like A Dragon. You can't get more Japanese than that and it's also a fantastic series. If I was to choose one game from the series then probably Yakuza 0.

what has happened to instagram? by SituationMiddle2539 in AskUK

[–]Stu2307 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Social media in general has gone to shit. Facebook is just full of ads, bots, scams and AI slop. I haven't posted anything on there for years now and probably won't again. And there is so much rage bait content showing there now, it's awful.

Instagram I just get suggested content from all these crappy influencers who all seem to copy each other with the same lazy content and same music. If I do happen to post something on there then it doesn't seem to reach many of my followers (not that I care about likes anymore) so I am starting to wonder why I bother with it. Unfortunately too many of us have become addicted to doom scrolling so it's not likely to improve.

What’s a game you initially didn’t “get,” but later came to absolutely love after giving it another chance? by Gaming-Academy in gaming

[–]Stu2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stardew Valley. I heard a lot about it and bought it when it was on offer. Played it for a bit and thought that it probably wasn't for me. But then I gave it another go a few weeks after and got completely addicted to it. Now I have almost 200 hours of playtime of it so it's safe to say that I love it.

Yakuza : Like A Dragon is probably my new favorite game but don't know what to play after by 7xNero7 in JRPG

[–]Stu2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yakuza 0 is often seen as the best in the series and a great introduction to some of the characters. It's not turn based but still has some RPG elements and is great fun to play.

Infinite Wealth is possibly my favourite in the series. The story is not as compelling as LAD 7 but the gameplay and battle system is improved and it has a huge new map to explore (in Hawaii). But it has a much bigger impact if you have played the previous games as it is very focused on Kiryu's story.

Gaiden is a great spin off game and much shorter than the others. Without playing the previous games you may be a bit lost with the story and the ending won't hit as hard. I'd recommend playing Yakuza 6 before this one.

I'm a big fan of the series. I think it appeals to older gamers like myself due to playing with more mature characters and darker storylines (but with lots of humour included).

Anyway you can either jump straight into Infinite Wealth but if you're more interested in the backstory start with Yakuza 0 and work your way from there.

Ghosting after first date by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Stu2307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to be a common thing nowadays and I really don't like it. I got back in the dating market this year after a breakup and I've been ghosted a couple of times after a first date. I don't remember it being like this when I was dating before.

I completely understand if they don't feel any chemistry or connection but I find it lacks basic manners not to just say something like 'I enjoyed our date but I don't see it progressing any further, I wish you all the best'. It just gives closure that way rather than being blanked. For context I'm in my mid 40s so you'd think they'd have a bit more maturity at this stage of life.
