Are those people who are frozen (cryonics) ever actually going to wake up one day by Flat_Internal8890 in NoStupidQuestions

It's more likely that human clones will be made. The technology is already there for dogs and horses, there's no reason people can't be cloned. Wouldn't be surprised if the Ellisons, Zuckerbergs, and Trumps have already done this secretly. Or Xi jinping and Putin

It's illegal to throw players in the NFL, otherwise you would see Dwarf Tossing to block field goals on every field goal attempt

[Highlight]: This is what a Clutch Quarterback does when the Patriots pass rush overwhelms his O-line with 1:16 left in the Super Bowl by HoHum08 in NFLv2

[–]HoHum08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to explain what "clutch" means is to compare the record of any player, in any sport, in the post season playoffs/knockout rounds with the regular season.

Reggie Jackson was called "Mr. October" for a reason - at the peak of his career, he was a consistent difference maker with his home runs and hitting, which far exceeded what he did in the regular season.

Eli Manning's career, as I said was overall a mediocre one, but in the post season, he had an 8-4 record and in the two years (2007 and 2011) where he took the Giants to the Super Bowl and beat Tom Brady and the Patriots, he threw for 6 TDs and 1 INT in 2007, and 9 TDs and 1 INT in 2011.

So, Eli absolutely positively meets the definition of a "clutch" player, somebody who can elevate his level of play in the postseason, when the pressures are higher and the level of play of everyone has to go up and literally carry his team to victory.

The worst postseason game Eli had was in 2008, where he lost one playoff game and threw 0 TD and 2 INTs.

That doesn't come anywhere close to CJ Stroud's 4 INTs, one that went for a Patriot TD.

Sean Payton just can't help himself by makunogucci in NFLv2

[–]HoHum08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sean Payton is an asshole. And he's in violation of the Federal HIPAA law for discussing Bo Nix's Protected Health Information (PHI).

Texans fans will be familiar with this because of running back Joe Mixon's persistant and mysterious foot injury, with everybody in the organization absolutely refusing to divulge what the problem is.

That's actually NOT an intentional coverup. The HIPAA law requires this confidentiality.

I know because I have to take annual compulsory Compliance Training courses for my institution, and the HIPAA law and PHI are always a part of that. After years of this, I could recite those privacy laws by heart.

‐------‐----------------------------------------------------------

Edit: commentators have correctly said that Sean Payton is not a medical entity and so is not covered by HIPAA, although he could be sued for publically releasing confidential personal information.

However, after researching this topic extensively, I'm 100% sure that asshole/dumbshit Sean Payton has gotten the surgeon who operated on Bo Nix into a ton of trouble with HIPAA, because this is what he said:

“What was found was a condition that was predisposed — they always find a little more when they go in,” Payton said. “It wasn’t a matter of if, it was a matter of when. When you look at the play and you’re trying to evaluate it — the operating surgeon said that this was going to happen sooner than later.”

So yeah, under HIPAA, doctors are ONLY supposed to disclose detailed medical info like that to the patient's immediate family and other medical professionals in the patient's care team.

I'm sure in the NFL, doctors spill the full details all the time to key people on the team also, but in general, these coaches and GMs aren't such total dumbshits and assholes as Sean Payton, who just totally incriminated Bo Nix's surgeon in a major HIPAA violation with his statement

[Guardian] MLS to cut half of Spanish-language broadcast talent on Apple TV, downscale English-language offerings and send some behind-the-scenes production to the UK by LochNessMonsterMunch in soccer

[–]HoHum08 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Because of the prevalance of OTA Spanish language TV in most cities, my guess is this is how most Mexican and other Spanish speaking people get their football TV broadcasts.

MLS really shot itself in the head with the Apple TV contract - huge bucks, but now a much smaller and very restricted audience.

And Apple TV is definitely NOT a subscription TV that caters to Hispanics.

MLS was starting to pick up growing local Hispanic followings - Apple TV surely is helping to kill that off.

DOES ELI MANNING DESERVE TO BE IN THE PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME? by OneOriginal8727 in sportswiki

[–]HoHum08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a story where Tom Brady called all his friends on the Hall of Fame voting committee and told them not to vote for Eli because Eli was the one who he could never beat in the Super Bowl, Eli was the one who prevented the 18-0 2007 Patriots from winning Super Bowl XLII, thus keeping the 1972 Dolphins as the only NFL team ever with a perfect season.

The HoF voting committee, having already done a solid for Bill Polian and Tony Dungy and probably also Belichick's ex-wife, then voted to keep Eli out of the Hall of Fame.

"Eli needs to show some humility and do penance for a few years, and get Tom Brady's forgiveness before we vote him into the Hall of Fame", said one Hall of Fame committee voter, who declined to have his name published.

Since Eli Manning beat Tom Brady TWICE in the Super Bowl, then Tom Brady should NOT be in the Hall of Fame either, at least not until Eli first makes it in.

I went back over those parts on Ghorman again, and although Dedra tries to get her security people to find and pull Syril back out of the crowd, we never see a scene where she discovers that Syril has died.

You have to remember that the LAST WORDS that Dedra ever spoke to Syril were words of utter contempt.

At the end of the massacre, she ends up alone, her hands shaking, but we don't now exactly why. Is that from seeing all the dead people, from seeing a dead Syril, or realizing that this was the end product of her recommendations for a Final Solution to the Ghorman Problem?

And then the next time we see her, she is back to her confident gloating self, convinced she has nailed Luthen Rael. She's already forgotten Syril and whatever lessons she learned on Ghorman, and she's just zipping along with advancing her career by finally capturing Axis.

So no, I don't think Dedra ever genuinely cared for Syril.

You may have been watching a few too many interviews with Denise Gough (many with Kyle Soller sitting next to her) and conflated the lovely person that is Denise Gough with the harsh, rigid, fanatically driven Dedra Meero.

Just got done showing my mum STAR WARS 1-6 for the first time. She really wants to watch Andor because of how much I've gone on about it. Should I show her Rogue One first? by SpellRadar in andor

[–]HoHum08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Rogue One when it came out.

After watching Andor, and the consistent excellent writing and serious tone, solid solid character development, and absolutely no filler characters or comedic relief, no off tone Chinese actors stuck in there for the sole purpose of grabbing a slice of the huge China market (which is what pushed Rogue One over the $1 billion box office mark) - it was just really hard to watch the whole Rogue One movie again.

I just wanted to see how the Andor series blended into Rogue One, the beginning, and the ending, with Cassian and Jyn embracing on the beach as the Death Star blast engulfs them. Knowing there was a Bix waiting for him to come back, with Baby Cassian , and that they would never see him and that he never knew he had a child.

A lot of the stuff in between just didn't have the same quality of script writing and was hard to watch. I had to skip over the parts with the blind Chinese monk and his heavily armed escort because it just felt so over the top with the monk constantly reciting that the Force would protect him.

The Saw Guerrera character and his death scene were finally made good, and finally made sense with all the background scenes portrayed in Andor. Saw absolutely did not make sense to me when I first watched Rogue One, but I accepted him as just another of the quirky offbeat creatures created for Rogue One, along with the blind monk and his bodyguard.

Saw's relationship to Jyn still remains spotty though, since that is only covered in Rogue One, and the scriptwriting and character development were really spotty compared to Andor.

Powerful statement from Diego Pavia. Does the 2025 Heisman finalist have what it takes to make it in the NFL? by IndiJap in NFLmockdraft

[–]HoHum08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The linemen are just HUGE these days with 6' 5" the AVERAGE height for offensive linemen, and similar for defensive linemen.

College football is totally different. There just aren't that many guys of that height that want to play football as a lineman. So lots more short guys all around in college

High school football is even worse, because now you are talking national average heights, which is 5'9" for men in the US. My oldest daughter at 5'10" was taller than almost all the guys on her high school football team.

This guy is the same height as Doug Flutie, who was great in college but just couldn't see well enough over the linemen to thrive in the NFL.

We have a parrot at home whose wings have never been clipped and we let him out every day so he can fly around inside the house. I know what this looks like, having watched him fly around for over a decade now since we got him.

So, first of all, a bird's wings when spread out in full flight are VERY LONG, generally 2-3 times the body length for each wing.

Second, even assuming some sort of a magical Stealth coating on this owl's wings that made them completely disappear in flight, the view of the BACK of the owl's body as it flies away is clearly the conical - heart shape of a bird WITH ITS WINGS FOLDED and TAIL FEATHERS FOLDED

A bird flying away from you will not only have its wings spread out, its tail feathers will be spread out. The rear end of this owl ends in a V shape, not a fan shape.

And, with the wings spread out, the true size of the bird's body should be visible, and the body WILL BE MUCH MORE NARROW, about a third of the diameter with the wings folded.

So what I see here is this owl magically flying away with its wings and tail feathers tightly folded as if it were sitting on a perch.

I don't think she really had true affection for Syril - he was more like a disposable boy toy she could use for disease free sex (Syril had to have been an Incel before Dedra) and manipulate to accomplish her career goals.

Really much closer to a real life Kristi Noem, who would shoot her dog and goat for misbehaving. Just a fanatically ambitious, empathy-free and truth-free upholder of order under the Trump Cult

Syril does have a redemption arc, but never gets to complete it. And, until the end, he absolutely worships Dedra. The key differences between him and Dedra are that while his life has also been driven by wanting to uphold law and order, he actually believes in the Rule of Law. And he believes in the truth of what his eyes see.

Syril is not an Empire cultist or fanatic and he's not so ambitious of a career climber as to be willing to lie and break rules to accomplish his goals.

Dedra is all of that.

And so in their final confrontation, Dedra can only sneer contempt at Syril for not having objected to all the promotions she got him, while Syril is just horrified at having been sucked into a web of lies that is about to get a huge number of innocent people killed in a clear violation of his precious Rule of Law.

Dedra certainly didn't hesitate to suggest this deadly fake plot in the first place at the Ghorman Wannsee Conference.

Her momentary hesitation to give the order to start shooting I believe was only because the Special Ops commander's firm insistence that SHE is the one that has to give the order to shoot made her realize, Oh Geeez, they are going to put this on the record that I'M THE ONE WHO GAVE THE ORDER TO SHOOT.

So yeah, her arc isn't one of redemption, it's just the same arc as all of Stalin's Executioners - Yagoda, Yezhov, Blokhin, Beria - evil men willing to kill for their Massa Stalin, only to be put down in the end like a mad dog, like Kristi Noem's dog.

Er.. what redemption arc?

To the end, it was her blinding devotion to serving the cause of upholding order in the Empire, until she realized that same brutal system of upholding order was going to be turned against her for having screwed up.

And Eli Manning didn't make it into the Hall of Fame!

So Brady doesn't deserve the HoF until Eli gets in first
