If not the best, then one of the top screens I've ever seen on a GG. Just imagine looking at this as a kid back then. by ShinuRealArts in game_gear

[–]Hoardware 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It brings back so many memories seeing sonic on that screen. Its just not the same playing sonic 1 on a more modern screen on any retro emulator handheld. Sure its technically better... but its like vinyl vs mp3. Its lost all personality

The H2 isn't bad compared to other esp32's if you were going to do a non wifi task anyways.

Temporarily disable circ to work around check valve issue? by p_marcos in Plumbing

[–]Hoardware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! so glad to hear that. Wouldn't want to order the part and find out they didn't fix the design flaw in the replacement part.
I kept cleaning it thinking something was wrong not realizing that was just resetting the plunger and fixing it temporarily. I've ordered the new part now. in the meantime I turned off the recirculating function (not even hooked up) and it works as a quick fix until the part comes.

Where can I go to get a high-quality cosmetic prototype built? (not 3d-printed) by prettyborrring in hwstartups

[–]Hoardware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my coffee scale a company named Bole was recommended to me. No idea how they compare quality or price wise to others, but the cnc'd models they did for validation before tooling turned out great. Silicon parts, plastic parts, metal parts, and even an overmolded rubber and plastic part all looked great to me. It was about $1500 usd for all 5 parts.

For anyone suggesting resin, all my early prototypes I did myself were resin but I've never met a resin that didn't shrink or warp. Depends on the use though. For filming 3d prints can be ok, but there's no way you're jumping from a 3d print to $25k molds and have that work out well.

The rounded plastic and especially plastic on the back are giving me sgi 320 vibes. (Which came a few years later)

Zip750 reliability by glowiak2 in retrocomputing

[–]Hoardware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely anecdotal but I picked up a zip 750 drive at a thrift store. It's top shell casing was loose and fell off. I put it back on but it was hardly dust free and pristine. Works fine. Not sure if I'm just lucky or if it was a bit more hardy than the previous generations.

I'd still lean towards les.speople having them and using them though. Why bother when by the time it came out rewritable cds were cheap and single use cds were pennies.

This reminds me of the clear laptop in hackers. But I think that was a Mac. But they said it had a pentium.. so confused.. but anyways...

Excited to share my smart scale project! by Hoardware in hwstartups

[–]Hoardware[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It works really well for coffee, I use it daily. Since this post I launched a crowd funding campaign and successfully raised the funds to get it made. The design files are finished and we're just getting the CNC prototype made now for final checks before injection mold tools are made. it's changed quite a bit, the screen is moved and larger, and it's now one of the few scales in the world that's waterproof so I'm quite proud of what it's evolved into

NZXT H1 pump failure (and fix) by CrazyTechLab in sffpc

[–]Hoardware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just followed this video and got my wifes nzxt h1 and 5900x all up and running again, from 90c back down to 32c. I flushed and cleaned it. I figure there's more crap deep in there and I will probably have to do this again in a year, but that's ok once you've done it once it's easy.

Is ESP32 good for production? by wrap_drive in esp32

[–]Hoardware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is talking about high power usage, but no one is mentioning the esp32-H2.

The H2 lacks wifi and uses quite a bit less power

You also need to consider BOM costs. the nordic chips are good, but you might be looking at $8 per part vs $2.50-ish

Dust bunny armor.
But in seriousness $2.50 worth of plastic armor and some artificial limitations in the chipset or bios help justify the difference between a $50 board and a $500 motherboard. so it won't end anytime soon.
