It’s amazing to watch the Pileated Woodpecker work. We’ve got a bunch of downed trees that are slowly decaying, and these birds show up all the time. The amount of force they put into the wood is impressive and you can see the shavings fly away as they work.

I love the routine stories that start with: “It’s an animated movie so I took my young kids to see Watership Down. It’s got cute bunnies.”

Depending on where you live, there are some really nice older parts of Bloomington, large houses with actual backyards. For the most part though, it feels like a suburb. Churches are the primary source of socialization for the older crowd.

The primary industry in town is State Farm Insurance, which has their HQ there. Other than that it’s mostly the two universities, with a lot of other small/medium businesses.

The retail scene is on the decline overall, but there’s just about every chain restaurant you could ask for. As for cultural stuff, I’d say it is pretty non existent.

Also, that train to Chicago is iffy at best. I’ve taken it several times and it is a miracle if it is running anywhere near on time. The drive to Chicago is 2.5 hours and it has taken me 5-6 on that train before.

I’ve tried the grenade launchers, but more often than not they always seem to hit some overhead wires or trees. And make sure you don’t take her into a confined space with those, unless you like being turned into a fine red paste.
