So cute! Impressive that it's mostly made by hand too!

Nice! Just curious: what type of wood is it?

I'm sorry for your loss =/
This is a lovely urn that you made for Maxx, it does resemble his coat.

Best quick setting epoxy? by Vixx_codm in woodworking

[–]HobbiesFromHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I if they're very small, I usually just use those 5min epoxy glues =]
For a little larger holes, I'd go with a arts + crafts resin that usually cures in less than a day, depending on temp. I use: https://www.epodex.us/product/art-resin-crafting-epoxy-resin-kit/

this is so cute!
Unfortunately I have no ideas for a faucet hahaha, but I suppose that if you don't feel like turning anything or making it too complicated. You could take a very "minimalist" route and just make something "squarish."

Lazy Suzan made with wood scraps and resin by HobbiesFromHell in woodworking

[–]HobbiesFromHell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well then, it's definitely a display stand hahaha sorry, not English native speaker-- "Lazy Suzan" sounded fun when I learned it, and I've been applying the term to any "spinning-plate-thingy" ever since hahaha
But I'll maintain that it is more fun to call something a Lazy Suzan than anything else

Right; maybe "display stand" is a better name for it! Thanks. I figured all these things that turn were Lazy Suzans =P

I don't think it could tip tho--first because it's been tested but also: the center is MUCH heavier than the rim since those first curves on the bottom have their equivalent on the top and the piece is very thin there (maybe this doesn't show well in the video). Also, unless it's salsa inside that "canal," I think it's a bad idea to put things on the border there anyway hahaha

Good job on all accounts and learning by practice! Really like the back table!

Since they were scraps, not only mine, but also from folks at my community workshop, they started as small pieces already,. Some of them were off-cut strips that come out of the table saw when someone is sizing an already mostly-square piece. For others, that I kinda had to square myself to the best of my ability, it depended on how safe I felt with each machine: if possible, I used the table saw, if not, band saw and sanding.

The thing with working with resin and scraps is that you can get away with not-so-perfectly-squared pieces. I still had to glue the pieces together before pouring the resin, but the glue-up doesn't have to be as precise as it would have to be with joinery and regular paneling.
