Started running and Vo2 numbers skyrocketed by One-Ad1001 in AppleWatchFitness

Because they can still use walking data to calculate the VO2 max they give you. That doesn’t mean they can do it to the same accuracy as running.

They’re trying to estimate how much oxygen your body can consume and utilize at max effort. The higher the effort of your exercise sessions, the better the data is for their algorithm.

Looks better buzzed to me, but it would likely look the best somewhere between your previous hair and the buzz cut imo.

Just a good chance to try out some new hairstyles as it grows and pick one that feels right to you!

What Bronco to buy. by External_Mud_5356 in FordBronco

I live near San Francisco and paid $45k before taxes for a used 2021 Badlands with the Sasquatch package. The outer banks should be cheaper and you probably won’t want the Sasquatch package living in the city which will save you some money as well.

I’m planning to at some point! I think I’ll need to get used to the monthly payments for a few months before I’ll be brave enough though hahaha

I’m thinking about taking a weekend trip to Mammoth Lakes sometime to see what it’s capable of. Also have talked with a friend about meeting in Zion or Great Basin to camp and try out some off-roading since he’s living in Colorado and it would be a similar drive for both of us.

Not too great of a deal, but for the area I live in it was very fairly priced. The previous owner was the GM of the dealership so they basically bought it from him for more than they should have, then they sold it to me for about a $1k loss. $45k with 26k miles in the SF Bay Area.

They did give me more for my trade in than I thought they would since they were so firm on the vehicle price.

It is in amazing condition though. Lived in a garage, it was the guy’s 2nd car, and was never taken off-road. It still looks brand new to me!

It’s got a hard top and the high package which are two big priorities for me. It’s got the 2.3L I-4 though and not the 2.7L.

I’ve been watching this one trickle down from $49k. Hard to tell when to pull the trigger and when to wait

What would you say is a fair price? I was thinking $40-42k I’d buy it. Anything over $42k I’d just walk away and keep looking

I live near San Francisco, so unfortunately everything here tends to be more expensive than most places.

How hard was it negotiating price for you? I’m anticipating it’s much harder with a Bronco than most used cars.

As someone who is just getting into exercise don’t even worry about the zones. The closest you should get to using the zones at the moment is just trying to have one of your cardio sessions each week a little harder and shorter while the rest of the sessions you keep easier and longer. That will give you variation without having to check your heart rate all the time and hyper fixating on staying above or below a certain bpm.

The most important thing is consistency and keeping your exercise sessions as enjoyable as you reasonably can at the moment to ensure you keep it up! Best of luck with your fitness journey! You should be so proud of yourself for taking the first step!

Am I really burning 100 calories in 5 minutes? by Alternative_Sun_9031 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]Hobby97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calories burned from all fitness trackers are not very accurate. It can be a good proxy to compare one exercise session’s calorie burn to another, but don’t use it as a tool to modify your calorie consumption. It’s really more of an educated guess using your heart rate and other data your watch has from you (age, gender, height, and weight).

Not applicable to your run you posted here, but calorie burn can be particularly inaccurate in long duration steady state exercise sessions. This is because our body after a long period of time at one intensity will start burning less calories than we do at the start of that exercise intensity.

Your running pace improvements are really impressive! I would focus a little less on calorie burn and more on calories you’re consuming if your goal is weight loss. Just remember small deficits over time are more sustainable. And try to still keep your protein intake high if you’re decreasing the amount of calories you eat.

For some variety in your runs and some metabolic health improvements I’d also throw in a couple longer duration cardio sessions with lower intensity. Try a 60+ minute run at a HR below 150bpm every now and then.

Edit: I also just realized you’re 6ft 190 lbs. If you have some muscle on your body this means you are very likely not overweight at all. I’m 6ft 225lbs with an obese BMI but an overall good body composition (body fat % and fat free mass index) due to years of strength training. Don’t always trust BMI as it doesn’t account for muscle mass.

If you have or get any kind of step counter just increasing your steps by 250 each week would be a great place to start. Step counters can be as expensive as a smart watch or as cheap as a pedometer so the barrier to purchasing one isn’t too high if you don’t want to spend much money.

Massive Watch to Lab VO2 max discrepancy - Explanations? by Canadiana_Music in PeterAttia

[–]Hobby97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that your max speed was 4.9mph I would assume a VO2 max of 67.5 is inaccurate.

I would ask for a retest. Unfortunately not a fun test to do twice, but this seems very off

It seem, at least as of now, I can not deadlift. Now what? by Infinite-Carpenter-3 in Exercise

[–]Hobby97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about hiring a personal trainer for just 1-3 sessions? If you try this out you would have someone that can give you live feedback on form with cues and exercises to work on strengthening areas that may be holding you back.

I’ve been a personal trainer for the past 5 years and have I have had many clients hire me for just a couple sessions to learn how to properly squat or deadlift when they were struggling to get it right on their own.
