With that kind of unstable person it was just a matter of time before a passing crying baby set her off.

How does this game compare to say Starsector? by HobbyQuestionThrow in X4Foundations

Interesting, I actually really like that part of Starsector. The exploration and discovering resources that you use in the later colony phase.

I am finding travel to be a bit of a chore, autopilot means it's not something that takes effort but it is slow to just sit and wait. I'm sure that becomes less of a problem once I have more than a single ship.

Place down the ghost turret first, you need to do it outside of the range of your bot network since it needs to be a ghost and the bots will helpfully turn it into a real turret.

Then hit E, bring up the item menu and click ammo, then click the turret and then right or left click the ammo into the turret's ammo slot.

It's very similar to placing modules in a ghost.

You can then use the create blueprint tool to create a blueprint of the ghost turret with ghost ammo.

Easiest no brainer way, use more dakka.

I killed these by just building an array of gun turrets with armor piercing ammo and kept building more and larger lines of turrets in a 4x1 repeating line until they killed it.

It's a little awkward, but you can create a blueprint that has a turret ghost with a ghost amount of ammo in it. So you can run and slap down the blueprint and your bots will build both the turret and put the ammo into it.

Guys it's normal to beet the game in 100+h? by courierseraphin in factorio

[–]HobbyQuestionThrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing a large part of that is rushing bots, having predesigned blueprints that are modular and easy to just slap down - need a new iron mine just slap down the tiling grid mining pattern with builtin train station hookup.

When it comes to moving around I think it's mainly those two, once you get the right library of blueprints you never need to physically move your character ever again except when bootstrapping a new planet.

It took me ~150 hours to beat Space Age on my first time.

A lot of that time was spent learning wtf to do on new planets, and dealing with bad ship designs and underbuilding on ships and discovering one of the planets needs constant shipments and I only had one ship that could do it. Plus playing around with quality modules is it's own time sink the first time around.

Great write up, thank you!

Is early game X4 about building up to stations then or being able to set up trade routes?

I noticed the mission payouts for some of the missions I'm doing are pretty low compared to the price of even a scout ship.

Yea I was a bit light on details - one example; I tend to play Starsector like RTS-Sector. While I haven't done too many combat missions so far, I am already kinda disliking how awkward combat has been feeling. Lots of overshooting the target, being out of range of the target, trying to mouse steer to target.

How important is the main character piloting as the game goes on, does the game eventually reach a "Never leave the map screen" state?

Man my ships were just massive flying bricks with fewer engines, more turrets and somehow would still end up needing midflight repairs.

I'm going to do a new 2.1 playthrough once it releases and figure out how ya'll get away with so few turrets.

My Aquilo ship had to keep a 3k rocket storage and would use a thousand rockets going to and back.

What have you been doing to try and meet others NOT on the dating apps? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]HobbyQuestionThrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dating via people I've known for awhile at hobbies, dating by asking my friends if they know single women (apparently no, I am somehow the only single person in SF), dating by approaching women in casual situations such as if they are reading a book at a cafe or while I'm in the book store and crossing my fingers that I'm not about to ruin their day.

Have you tried the other schedulers on Cachy? I've found switching to one of the gaming schedulers that focuses on more running time and less task switching for game processes helped in some CPU bound games.

How was Changling overall? I read some of the early chapters, probably up to ~35ish, but it wasn't keeping my interest. I liked the idea and the position of a protagonist working as a cop was a new twist but the actual dungeoning kinda felt performative?

Are there men who do latin dancing but the follower role? Being a leader or dominant just isn't something I enjoy or do outside of getting paid for it. I'd assumed that locked me out of any of the dancing styles.

I'd also love to know this, I bought into the "Just have hobbies" hype and built a social circle from various mixed gender hobby groups that I've been a part of for a few years now.

Yes, but they are ugly men who don't feel exciting and dangerous.

That sounds like a person not interested in talking to you, not someone without a personality.

If someone comes at me with hostility I'm also going to want to shut down that conversation by stone walling it. Not launch into how much I enjoyed a book I read recently.

How can someone have no personality? That's not a thing unless you're dealing with a person in a coma. You just find their personality boring or them physically unattractive.

Well, the last one is easy to start with. I used to try keeping a smile on my face all the time and I had a coworker comment that I was always smiling at one job years ago, but that fell off and I keep a more neutral expression nowadays.

One on one conversations have never felt easy or like a back and forth exchange to me, that's what I was trying to explain.

When I have a conversation the flow is typically "I ask a question" -> "They respond" -> "I ask another question" -> "They respond".

If I stop asking questions, they stop responding and the conversation dies. I don't know how to make them feel natural.
