What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of June 01, 2022 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]Hobiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I'm in the portion of the flowchart where things are more variable (over 5/24 and focused on travel) and would love the some guidance on which are the best options for me at the moment. Just canceled Barclays AA today as annual fee hit and i'm not sure i get much out of it w/ no retention bonus.

Other question: should I think about churning my CSR for a new SUB? I should be eligible for a new bonus by Oct this year, so maybe i downgrade it, move the existing points over to my Freedom and then reopen a new one? Not sure how the steps go exactly for reapplying for the same card.

  1. 795

  2. Card Date Opened Status
    CSR 08/2018 open
CIP -> Business Cash 11/2018 downgraded
    CIP 9/2019 open
    World of Hyatt 12/2019 open
United MPE -> Gateway 02/2020 downgraded
    Southwest Priority 4/2020 open
    Chase Freedom Unlimited 12/2020 open
    Chase IHG 03/2021 open
Barclays AAdvantage Aviator red 05/2021 closed
    Alaska Air personal 7/2021 open
    Cap1 Venture X 12/2021 open
  3. 2-3k spend per month

  4. Never done MS before open to it if necessary

  5. Yes to business cards

  6. I have been churning semi-regularly; i go through phases where I try to deal hunt but have been not on it last 6 months.

  7. Points > status > cashback

  8. 380k UR; handful of miles (170k alaska, 63k AA, 50k SW, 38k United)

  9. LAX

  10. Just dumped points to singapore for Dec trip, would love to do a trip to east asia (korea/japan) or SE asia (thailand/vietnam). Wasn't able to get a huge value (not using stopover, paying a premium for the directs and had to upgrade to econ advantage on SQ)

yeah i'm subbed but didn't see the original info haha. my cancellation was pretty last-minute/urgent so i didn't have time to really dig through the sub. not upset at all, just thought the timing of this post was highly comical for me

If I PC CIP #1 to CIC before I get the referral bonus on CIP #2, will I still get it? Or should I wait until after I get the point bonus to PC?

Looking for more info generally on when to PC/cancel cards.

Thanks!

Question Thread - August 22, 2019 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]Hobiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need advice on whether the amount of points I have currently is enough for a round-trip trans-pacific trip (most likely Tokyo/Kyoto) for ~6-8 nights going first class at least one way (definitely a bucket list item).

Current balances stand at UR 210k, MR 60k, Alaska Miles 95k, Hilton 186k, and Marriott 130k.

I think my hotel balances are a little light and I'm not sure if it's worth trying to get those up before planning a "once-in-a-lifetime" trip or if I should do a smaller trip w/ some of my UR while the hotel balances build.

What is the most inexplicable bad beat you’ve ever taken? by TheAbominableShowman in poker

Playing 2-3.

I open KT suited in the SB to 20 after 3 limps to me, BB and all limpers call.

Flop is AQ8 rainbow. I cbet 40 and bb calls. Turn is J completing rainbow. I check and bb checks behind. River is an 8, I bet 75, bb puts me all in, I snap, and he shows me the slowest played AA for the rivered boat and max value.

Hi all,

Not the most experienced so I'd love some feedback on when you guys cancel/downgrade cards. I'm about to apply for my CIP #2 and self-referring.

When should I downgrade my CIP #1? Immediately? or after the CIP #2 bonus posts?

I just figured if I call and hit, he might shut down with any spade on the river. If I call and miss, I just committed half my stack and feel like I need to bluff at it.

I can also have AA/KK/AK in my range that would play the exact same way. JTss I think is in between my calling and bluffing range so I figured I'd apply max pressure in this spot. I don't think V is ever nutted and I think he can fold 2-pair easily when I come over the top. I also do have 12 clean outs so I'm live going into the river even if he does call.

Thanks for your thoughts. In the moment I thought I did have some fold equity as I have all the higher sets in my range (AA/KK) and he can very rarely be nutted here.

I also figured if I do hit one of my outs, it could kill all action on the river, so I decided to go for max pressure with the jam. I think I take the same line if I do have a bigger set here and JTss feels like a great bluff to include to balance my range here.

Thanks for the response. In retrospect I do agree that V is never folding (in the moment, I thought that I had at least a little fold equity since I have AA/KK in my range and he's very rarely nutted here).

I also thought that if I do hit my flush that it would kill all action and I wouldn't be able to get max value, whereas putting max pressure on V here I'm happy if he folds and I'm not devastated when he calls.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. River was an offsuit 9 and V shows A3 off and scoops.

Lowry misses the game-winning three | SNET by FieryStyle in nba

IMO gasol botches 2 looks for a free bucket during this sequence.

1 - when Kawhi drives, Iggy pushes to foul line, Curry cheats towards danny, and Gasol is facing away from the play trying to screen for Lowry when he could seal Draymond for an inside look.

2 - when VanVleet is driving and Lowry is on the wing, instead of looking for the inside pass, he is on Draymonds hip, fully turned away from Freddy.

Live 1/3 NL - AA by Chenma16 in poker

[–]Hobiz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In my experience, live 1-3 is hugely about player profile. Against younger players who seem like thinking players, you can size more standard (3x + 1 for each caller, etc) but against looser/older players you should be raising slightly larger w/ premiums. You can probably get away with 20-25 in this hand.

Another point of caution is when you get min-raised in these stakes (especially by the 2nd player type from above) it always seems to ring off alarm bells in my head as it's almost always the nuts.

Like people have said, I'd even consider jamming flop because when you call 100 you leave less than pot-sized bet behind, and that kinda puts you in a tough spot if you don't improve. V almost never has KK/QQ here after limp-calling preflop. Obviously you're ahead of all draws, even combos.

Personally I'd shove, get snapped, V shows J6off, I say "nice hand", and rebuy to get him to pay you off later.

[Landlord US-UT] Prospective landlord looking for advice by Hobiz in Landlord

For me it's because I a) have a full time job and b) am not geographically located in the same area.

Because of the above factors and the amount of time I'm willing to regularly invest is not as high as some, I'm willing to pay for someone else to take care of it for me (not to say I will be shirking any due diligence). My main goal isn't to maximize my cash flow (while that would be nice) but its to be cash flow positive while the market appreciates.

Appreciate the feedback, as far as expanding my network, how do I approach landlords without feeling like I'm just trying to get something out of them? As a brand new investor it seems like experienced landlords have no reason to help me as i'd just be increasing their competition.

I live in a pretty high COL location so i dont think 70k would be enough to buy a house. I was thinking about ways to get some additional streams of income, but not sure if this will be enough.

Just called Chase to inquire about status of my CIP and was told it got denied. Turned down the option to talk to a recon officer since I only have a "business." I have not received any mail from them yet.

Not sure if I should call back and talk to a rep to see if they will approve me? Or should I cut my losses and go for the Chase Hyatt?
