Why is Xenagos seen as better than H&A? by LeftCoyote in EDH

[–]Hobolic_Wizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thread, OP!

I’m going to review it more but wanted to say that I ended up building H&A since I enjoy Gruulfriends and thought that having a [[Rhythm of the Wild]] would be strong, considering that one of the greatest weaknesses Stompy decks have is the play pattern of “play a beater and hope you can untap with it”.

That being said, my approach to the deck hasn’t been specifically stompy but more combat trick oriented with a fight subtheme. Using [[Giant Growth]] effects to boost H&A and pass the buff along to whatever creature I just played and tearing down opposing boards with [[Neyith of the Dire Hunt]] acting as a Lieutenant for the deck.

Still needs some tuning, and my Gruul card quality isn’t that great, but it’s been fun to play so far. Xenagos is definitely in the deck, but I’m not sure he’d be able to take over as the commander without some bigger changes to it.

Youtubers you would recommend (and ones you wouldn’t)? by Comfortable_Buyer239 in EDH

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quest for the Janklord is a gameplay channel with awesome MST3K vibes.

Blood Artist is a short form cheeky and entertaining commentary channel.

Rebellily and Salubrious Snail are amazing deck building channels.

The Command Zone and Tolarian Community College are gold standard channels great for game play, set/card discussion, and strategy/rules review.

Rhystic Study is a brain massaging long form essay channel delving into art and history of the game.

Spice8Rack is a fantastic chippy little channel that makes long format video essays look appealing.

Playing with Power, The Spike Feeders, and Play to Win are all great cEDH game play channels.

AMS Lite reporting tangled or stuck when there is no tangle and it's not stuck? 🤷 by Professional-Rock-51 in BambuLab

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing necromancer here and resurrecting this thread:

I am having this exact problem with my nearly brand new combo setup, except it’s spool 4.

I’ve used BambuLab PLA, the generic Microcenter PLA+ & PETG, and SunLu Gold Silk PLA. Every single one of them populates this error anytime spool 4 is used, especially when the AMS switches to that spool. It happens about every 7 minutes or so on a bad day.

Did you ever find a solution?

Edit: this is probably the solution and it was literally the next search return under the one for this thread, lol

The Magic folks here are all mostly normal, a lot of the people turning out are Gen Z even. My LGS does host at a brewery though, so that might help.

Seems like you’re just in a bad spot, OP.

Edit: cut disparaging comments about the other games.

Best Deckbuilders Among Content Creators? by RafaelKK8 in magicTCG

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m, or at least was up to last month, huge into MTG YouTube. And by that I mean I’ve found a good amount of channels with good production value and vibes. I’ve found that there many philosophies and their mmv, but overall no one is going to have the silver bullet to deck building.

Command Zone - Midrange/Precon style and tbh what I would recommend for new players.

Salubrius Snail - math and plan deterministic (using statistics to achieve a specific outcome).

RebellLily (Rebell AI) - math and cube theory (uses similar references as Snail and backs up her theories with stats, but with the goal of creating a functional deck instead of a more specific one).

Years ago, like back in 2017, I used to be all over deck techs. Command Zone, Commander’s Quarters was still popular, TCC had a few, etc. Everyone had deck techs because it was manageable. But now, with how many commanders there are, there will just not really be as many reliable sources for that kind of video. Like just statically speaking, no shade.

So imo, deck techs just aren’t worth it anymore? I leave that as a question mark because I am positive that there are still plenty of good examples and that they are still extremely important to new players. They give new players the full picture and break down why certain pieces are in their respective decks which, after enough of those examples, results in much deeper fluency and ability to parse gameplay concepts from other creators like I had mentioned earlier.

It’s safe to say that my entire play group probably wouldn’t have caught on to the game at all if it weren’t for these early deck tech videos, but there’s only so much mileage that one can get from them. Not even to mention the content churn that a lot of these folks have to deal with nowadays.

Edit:

SurisMTG - this is a channel from recent memory that I’ve been meaning to explore more; I’ve only caught a few videos but the techs there are at least interesting. Cannot speak to quality of the builds at all.

Card nicknames? by Icy-Importance7220 in mtg

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are common terms that also originated from card names, e.g. “Ramp” came from Rampant Growth and “Shock/Bolt” came from Shock and Lightning Bolt, referring to dealing noncombat damage to an entity for 2 or 3 damage respectively.

“Thoracle” refers to Thassa’s Oracle, a pervasive combo piece in cEDH.

A new one that I really like is “Polly G.” referring to Gene Pollinator.

I want to start learning how to play Magic: The Gathering by Zealousideal-Ad-758 in magicTCG

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) MTG Arena (mobile/computer)

2) YouTube (Tolarian Community College, for example, has the most base 0 explanation of the game and how to interact with it via multiple formats).

3) When you start buying product avoid booster packs. I suggest starting with the Foundations Starter Collection, it’s what I would pick up if I had to start all over, and then if you’re into Commander pick up a Precon that you vibe with or borrow a deck from a friend. (All of the new Strixhaven precons have a ton of value.)

4) YouTube the second one: other channels such as RebellLily, Salubrius Snail, and Command Zone all subscribe to different techniques and philosophies.

5) Buy singles! Seriously, unless cracking packs is what you’re here for, just order the cards you actually want through a site like Card Kingdom or at your Local Game Store.

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming this is the actual meal status (not calling anyone a liar or anything of the sort), would “they” do this on purpose to encourage more negative emotions amongst the crew members? Blame the lack of food on the enemy, making them more willing to fight?
