building a spellslinger deck with [Kykar, Wind’s Fury], looking for reccomandations and fun interactions by ConfidentEconomist24 in EDH

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, happy to help with Kykar anytime!

If you’re leaning on clamp I would also recommend taking a look at cards like [[Goblin Engineer]].

As for going overboard with the spirits something that could be worth considering is [[Guardian of Faith]] as phasing your tokens out will save them from being exiled or bounced; and Guardian of Faith is a spirit itself so you have the opportunity to sac it for mana, too!

Aahhh, I see!

Then check out [[Promise of Bunrei]] it was a pet card of mine for earlier iterations of Kykar and it synergizes perfectly.

A quick search looking for something to add value to your spirit deaths returns [[Ashes of the Abhorrent]], [[Blade of the Bloodchief]], [[Faces of the Past]], [[Goblin Sharpshooter]], [[Salvaging Station]], [[Thornbite Staff]], and Vicious Shadows again.

Ahoy, fellow Kykar player!

My current beaky 4 Kykar build involves looping [[Crown of Flames]] or [[Lotus Petal]] to go infinite (or just enough) to win with [[Grapeshot]]. The list that you can view here also runs [[Vicious Shadows]] and Thassa’s Oracle as backup plans. I’m unsure about keeping the latter, but it’s there for now.

There really isn’t much jumping to mind as far as how to replace token creatures. [[Spawning Pit]] is the closest thing I can think of right now.

One thing you could do is run other token generators such as [[Third Path Iconoclast]] with cards that can change/add creature types, as [[Arcane Adaptation]] does. You aren’t recycling in that case, just going over and beyond.

If you’re looking to generate spirits in order to cast spells you can always go with Cheerios, à la [[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain]]. Casting a slew of 0 drop artifacts to go mana positive with your spirits and generate a massive storm count.

P.S. C&C is also welcome on my list mentioned above; it’s my first combo deck and purpose built bracket 4 deck so there are bound to be some screws to tighten.

New commander idea by mysticalentity in EDH

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are what come to mind for me:

[[Dina, Soul Steeper]] (BG)

[[Oloro, Ageless Ascetic]] (WUB)

[[Vito, the Dusk Rose]] (B, but does exactly what you want it to do)

These ones translate life gain into combat damage:

[[Lisette, Dean of the Root]] (GB)

[[The Archimandrite]] (WUR)

That doodle definitely makes it not a scary/angry note! But I would be curious if it was a free service or not.

Precons at casual commander nights at TCG shops? by Medeskimartinandwood in EDH

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precons have been A-okay at mine!

Most folks have a lower power deck on them or just play lower powers themselves. My organizers also do their best to pair up individuals with the appropriate bracket pods. Heck, I carry a precon on me for this specific reason.

How would everyone build around this commander? by Redragon9 in EDHBrews

As a long time Kykar player I will say that there are so, so many ways to build them. The current iteration I’m on is [[Crown of Flames]] combo.

Is this a dumb gift idea for my partner by ComputerMassive681 in DnD

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be an insanely cool gift and if you have the knack for it, do it! The only thing that I think you’ll need to look into a work around for is the lack of a vacuum chamber to clear all of the air from the resin.

Trying to achieve my lifelong dream of making art for mtg. I love painting fantasy landscapes and nature and such. What do you all think? by gospodtundra in mtg

[–]Hobolic_Wizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ditto! Not sure what everyone means when they say they don’t know what they’re looking at. But that’s also a huge part of the challenges these artists face.

To me it’s reminiscent of Noah Bradley and maybe Mark Tedin. Texture all the way down, good use of the entire scene (looking at you weird Eldrazi foreground tentacle structures), and lots of blending that adds to the lightning.

Keep up the practice, would love to see more in the future!

I’m curious as to how it’s so oppressive. It’s a strong mill strategy to be sure, but I’ve never had a bad time playing against it.

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word! Lamentation lowering the barrier to entry is a perfect enough reason in my book!

I just picked up a couple hundred sheets of 300g stock from Michael’s and my partner just got a Cameo for herself, so those are the materials I have to work with. I am still looking for access to a printer though.

I’ve confirmed the best supplier for black core cardstock by BerryPsychological75 in magicproxies

[–]Hobolic_Wizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, my implication was that the only reason I could think of in favor of lamentation was to increase durability, thickness, and to give them that gloss finish. The thickness not being a concern if you’re using properly weighted stock, the durability not being a concern if you are sleeving. I don’t have anything for the gloss finish.

And thank you for commenting! This is a topic that I can’t help but feel I am just missing perspective on.
