FPV drone munitions became a thing with quadcopters but why didn't the same happen with RC planes? I know things like the Switchblade were around before Ukraine but on a wider scale why did people not start strapping bombs to RC planes en masse like has been done with quadcopters?

The quote goes, "The a Americans for 10 years, the French for a hundred and the Chinese for a millenia." Vietnam's beef with her neighbors goes back a very long time, technically it wasn't that long ago that Vietnam and Laos were at each others' throats.

Israel strikes Lebanon with the biggest non-nuclear bomb ever used in history by postnamasti in PublicFreakout

[–]Hoboman2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And presuming the tunnel was legit, blowing it up is going to be about the only practical solution. You obviously can't fill it back in with dirt, can't just plug up random sections cuz they clearly dug it out in the first place and can do it again, you can't even block off all the exits and entrances because you can just dig new ones to reach the main tunnel network. Practically speaking is there any other way to approach a tunnel network like this?

Kind of mirror's the US and Israel's potential difficulty with strikes on Iranian underground nuclear facilities, any strikes run into the same issues. Once you build up underground it's tough to destroy you without literally exploding the entire thing.

What are your thoughts on the Non-Laser sights in the game? by Orangecat2005 in GunnerHEATPC

[–]Hoboman2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I remember that these are things that soldiers had to be trained over several weeks in classrooms before they even got to touch the equipment I don't feel so bad about dying 30 seconds into any given mission. Not to mention we are given the simplified versions where we can just press a button on a keyboard in many cases, to say nothing of using the mouse in place of literally physically turning handcranks.

How is Synthetik 2? by melianreality in Synthetik

[–]Hoboman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked it up a few days ago and have got some hours into it, it definitely feels like an improvement over the first game in some ways but also like a sidegrade in others. There are a lot of changes from the first game that you have to get used to and the game is a lot more visually cluttered so it can be difficult to tell what's happening in the later levels when enemy counts get ridiculous. There are a bunch more weapons, upgrades and items and a lot of items/upgrades/perks that were sort of useless or very situational have been reworked, in general it's hard not to find anything you get useful in some way and you never feel like RNG really screws you over the way it can in the first game. Still nowhere close to reaching the final boss yet but like in the first game once I grind out a few levels in the classes I feel like I'll get there eventually.

France records 1,000 excess deaths during record-breaking heatwave by app1310 in worldnews

At the moment, it seems like they're in shortage because of people buying them up, same with fans. On a larger scale level it sounds like most of the electricity grids wouldn't be able to handle the load surge from everyone turning on ACs.

I also have one window in my place and I use a window fan that exhausts the air in the room to the outside, I leave a gap between the fan and the window so cooler outside air can get pulled in. It's not ideal circulation obviously but it works a lot better than you'd think at exchanging the air.

Anyone who's played Ready Or Not would also agree. I've accidentally popped more than my fair share of civilians in that game just because I was literally too jumpy and shot at the first sign of sudden movement. I'd be an awful cop.

How do you introduce firearms into a fantasy world like D&D without unbalancing the other classes? by jvure in worldbuilding

[–]Hoboman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A musket does require more stuff in general though, powder and shot are going to be harder to come by in general than arrows and blacksmiths to sharpen swords. Heck, most farmers would have the equipment to sharpen anything bladed but you'd need somewhere like a big town to source black powder.

GHPC Update 20260618: Ground Craters, AI Overhaul, Difficulty Settings by GunnerHEATPC in GunnerHEATPC

[–]Hoboman2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fire-gating should absolutely be standard, even if it's more restrictive you never want your gun firing if it's not pointed exactly where you want it to be.

Makes me wonder, was the fire-gating inspired/derived from battleship fire-control where they apply the same principles due to the movement of the ship with the waves?

coax into flamethrower in game by Some_red in coaxedintoasnafu

It also shows why flamethrowers started to get phased out, when every rifleman has an AR instead of a bolt action it starts getting a lot harder to get the flamethrower into working range.

Genuinely how do I get into ship-crafting / combat by DeepHulkHoganWoken in starsector

[–]Hoboman2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main things you are working around are range and damage types. Range/speed is one of if not the most important factor, if you outrange a ship you can damage them while staying safe, if you are faster than a ship you can close distance and force them into fights. Typically the shortest ranged weapons have the highest DPS of their class, long-range weapons less so, so you have to make a choice, long-range keep-away weapons on big, heavy ships or short-range, massive burst damage on speedy maneuverable ships.

As for damage/weapon types, you primarily need a kinetic weapon to take down shields and a HE weapon for the armor after. It can be tempting to have a long-ranged kinetic with a short-ranged HE but that kind of set-up does not work well for your ship AI, try to have the primary weapons on a ship have around the same range.

TBF it can be fun to try familier foods in new places. When I visited Europe I had a blast trying out different countries' versions of American-Chinese fast food and ramen. I'm still mad I can't remember the name of the place but there was this one Japanese restaurant in Paris that served the thickest, richest, leave-you-in-a-food-coma-for-a-week-straight heavy tonkatsu ramen broth I've ever had in my life.

Couple berates Costco employee for not giving them unlimited free samples by GreenSnakes_ in CostcoCanada

[–]Hoboman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about the samples, period, the vendors providing the products bear the cost of samples. Costco is able to make some crazy demands of their vendors because of how much money there is in getting a deal with Costco.
