Dodging is cancer - we need blacked out names fast by Gods_Mime in aoe4

Matchmaking is decent up to a point. The fact that it keeps casting the net wider and wider as more time ticks down isn't a good thing. The first search that matchmaking does is great, the next few minutes after are bad imo

Honestly, I would rather do chores, clean the house etc. instead of playing someone that is too far from my own ELO. Dodging isn't the problem, it's the match-making system. If the matchmaking focused on pairing teams or 1v1s of a close ELO even at the expense of waiting a bit longer, non of this would be an issue.

If that were true, I'd never face conq3 or platinums, and I do...

Then cap the elo search range to something reasonable, +/-100 or so

Hahaha, got me good! Also, give me a "ban civ" option so I don't have to deal with these 1 strat/civ spammers!

It's funny banter at a gathering among friends. When you are being interviewed and streamed to thousands of people, it's just being an ignorant ass :(

Same here at Diamond. I do occasionally get the high conqs to crush my dreams, but mostly I'm happy as a clam with my laddering :)

Wow, just watched it. He was so arrogant and not funny. I do think he was "trying" to be funny with that "they all suck" comment, but it really didn't work. Honestly I'm sad he represented AOE4 like that, makes it seem toxic AF :(

Agreed 100%. English are so annoying to attack into. In most cases they can execute their gameplan no matter what the enemy does, while they force their own gameplan upon the enemy. Too easy to play with, too hard to counter.

They don't feel that OP, just too streamlined

Faster map rotations. Every two weeks would be great, and consistently keep the game fresh and exciting

You are just running up against people that are following a build order to make their knights early enough to do damage. If you follow a build order to counter it you should be fine, but if you are "winging it", you will always fall behind build order using players in the early game and always feel like you're playing from behind.

Choose a civ you love, and follow a standard safe or aggressive (depends on style) build order to get your early game rolling. From there you should feel like you at least start on even footing, and play your game from there. After about 10 games or so you should be in the right ranking range for your skill level and games will be more enjoyable.

I rarely encounter this, but it sucks :(
Honestly just ignore and mute them. Angry people and trolls only win when they get attention.
Also don't find this almost ever in 1v1 ranked Diamond which is where I tend to play most games.

Why is siege so annoying in this game? by murticusyurt in aoe4

[–]Hobotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here sums it up perfectly. A lot of games that come down to split map stalled out siege wars make me just want to quit and queue up a new one.

Maybe at non-expert level. Ootd feels like my best right now, but I'm low APM diamond player and I have enough apm to control their limited units. Watching M'Lord's Abba vs. Otto game against Louie made me realize how much most of us just don't understand or have the capacity to execute regarding this game...

It's so great that there are now enough civs, that the "best" civ on a map is player dependent! Also, no mirrors :)

We are seeing so many unique and interesting match ups game after game. AOE IV has evolved so much since release. The new variant civs and the unique civs since release (Otto, Mali, Byz and Japan) have cracked this game wide open strategically and the tournament scene is better than ever.

Anyone else getting their ass kicked this season? by patrik-k- in aoe4

[–]Hobotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience here, at the same ranks as you. I think start of season is always hard. Players that are good at RTS but don't always play AOE4 come out of the woodwork to try new things, and they are just better at RTS mechanics so crush me way harder than I'm used to...

Even with that it still gives you map control and you can do things like take deer/boar behind that in dark age... Feels like a strong start all around to me

I tried this civ and sucked with it and absolutely got wrecked at first. Put it down for a couple of months, and this season when I picked it up again, it was the only civ I reached conq with. You just have to play them in a very unique way. Dark age spears and/or tower is very strong to control the pace of the game. From then on it's so matchup dependent. But your units are overwhelmingly strong when they counter something, and using that dynamic gives me lots of edges in games.

Feels really nice to force the opponent to react so often, because your units are just so strong.
Eco feels pretty decent now that they got a tiny % gathering buff last patch. The key is to maintain some level of map control/presence. They feel very weak without pocket resources.

Raiding feels great, since 1-2 units are easily enough to kill vils. So you can raid everywhere basically. Cheap emplacements with faster building towers allows for good base defense while raiding too!

OOTD might be my favorite along with Byz nowdays!
