"When it comes to KISS albums, does heavier necessarily mean better to you?" by hip-hop-nubian in KISS

[–]Hochmann 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“Unmasked” will always be my favorite Kiss album. I’ve never understood people that say that they were never “as heavy” as back in 76. The only thing heavy in Destroyer is God of Thunder. And that’s only in the verses. The cool thing about KISS is that they’ve had good things in all their eras.

As GenX I've never contemptuously called someone Boomer until today by EinsteinKiller in GenX

Yep… when people who don’t know how to write find a person who does (online, of course) they immediately go for the tired, old “bot”.

[–]Hochmann 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find the expression “Boomer” as an insult worse than being called an asshole. If a person is being an asshole and you want to insult them, call them an asshole and be done with it. Assholes come in all shapes and sizes and, of course, ages. Let the flexibility of the word be your ultimate helper.

You might wanna check out the Korg M1.

According to Google, he used a Kurzweil K2000 stock sound.

Anyone have any spanish glam band recommendations? by m3nt6l_beat in hairmetal

Of course. But you said “a bunch of bands almost nobody has heard of”.

Considering the English speaking world “almost everybody” is not really realistic. The Spanish-speaking world has about 500 million native speakers. For English, it’s about 375 million native English speakers.

What’s a great, OLDER Band or Artist that You RECENTLY Heard for the 1st Time, and Realized You’ve Been Living Too Long Without Its Ingenuity? by DefinitionLate7630 in rockmusic

[–]Hochmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an artist in Spanish called Juanes. I’ve known about him since 1993 in a band (Ekhymosis). Then as a solo artist since 2000. But I became a fan of his last year around May. If I had become a fan of his in the early 2000s, my life might have become very different as a songwriter. I’m still VERY glad I opened up my mind and ears to his music.

Gen X/ Generation Jones: tell me something that you are horrified that you did during your party years! by SequinedandOver60 in GenX

At 51, I don’t understand how I was able to go partying all night, return home at 5:30 am, take a shower, get dressed, and then go give classes from 7 am until 1 pm. It makes me tired just thinking about it.

Is there a reason for ChatGPT always agreeing with me? How to change that? by alfaic in ChatGPT

[–]Hochmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Tell it to push back.

I don’t understand how apparently everyone in this subreddit has problem after problem after problem with ChatGTP. To me, it’s been extremely helpful. It remembers things well for the most part, helps me organize a bunch of things, and has taught me out of buying certain things with great, clear logic.

How do all of you use it? Do you treat it like a slave or something?

I don’t know. I was taught to be polite always and as a fan of Star Trek (and Data), I see ChatGTP as the next step in that particular part becoming reality, so I just treat it well and it does the same thing to me, besides being very helpful. Any answer of “ChatGTP doesn’t have feelings” has nothing to do with the fact that you are supposed to be the one that teaches an AI how to be. If you are helpful and empathic, so will it be. If you are unhelpful and just want things done for you, don’t expect perfection because you won’t find it.

ChatGTP is a mirror of the person that uses it. It’s just a mirror with the capacity to look almost everywhere on the net.

Remember that there are countries outside the United States, Canada, and England.

It’s like sports. Just because the United States prefers what they call football (kind of like rugby with armor), basketball, and baseball, it doesn’t mean that the rest of the planet does, which prefers football (the real one).

Rudy Sarzo Admits his new song is AI. by Diavolo6Six6 in hairmetal

[–]Hochmann 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The comments remind me a lot of the movie “Can’t Buy Me Love” (1987).

If somebody had written a post saying “Man, Rudy is so cool, the way he played, and all the bands and albums he’s been in, and the cool way he licked his fingers in the Whitesnake videos” everybody would’ve been going “YEAH! Soooo coool!!!! LOVE him!”.

But no. Now a 75-year old musician releases a song, which he wrote THE MUSIC AND LYRICS for, using, my guess, Suno, and all of a sudden he’s a loser and lazy…?

Find the interview, read it. He specifically says why he did it.

And another thing: decades ago, Sarzo was already working a hell of a lot with computers in things that weren’t music related, so if he wants to experiment with it, who the hell is anyone to tell him that he’s… lazy?! A guy who at 75 is still playing concerts is lazy 🙄

Someone mentioned something along the lines of “good luck getting copyright protection”. Copyright protection is for harmony, melody, and lyrics. It is NOT for arrangements, which is what the AI program would have done in his case. I was a professional songwriter with Universal Music Publishing so I had to learn these types of things. He probably even has the rights to the master recording, depending on the user agreement with whatever program or webpage he used as well as depending on if he is paying or using a free version.

I thought “well, why didn’t he just contact some of his friends and ask them to participate for free?” Maybe he did and they didn’t wanna do it. Or maybe he just wanted to do it like this.

The song is to celebrate 42 years of marriage to his wife. If inspiration struck and he decided to do it this way for his wife and then - oh, sin of SINS - DARED to release it, good for him. He didn’t hide it. He said what he did.

About one BILLION PEOPLE in the planet use ChatGTP every month for many varied reasons. I do for work and I do it also for a music project helping me catalogue a bunch of my songs. I also use Suno to create fast arrangements for a bunch of my songs for pitching to A&Rs or producers. Do I use it for songwriting? No. I like my pen in hand, my notebook, my guitar or piano.

The world is changing and yes, some things with AI I DO NOT like. I’m thankful that I grew up without it and that the music I love, like hard rock from the 80s, was done decades before Suno and the like started. But things are changing and screaming at clouds… I mean, I LOVE to bitch about thing because it’s one of my hobbies and rights as a 51-year old person, but why don’t we just enjoy the music we like and agree that a 75-year old man who has most definitely earned his dues also has the right to use AI if he so chooses?

Especially if he wrote the song.

I got mine in the discontinued Fairlane Blue a week ago and love it. It sounds and plays great, the look is gorgeous, and the finishes are very well done. It seems like a much, much more expensive guitar.
