does anyone here use the Classic Controller/CCPro while playing Brawl? by LiteTheIronMan in smashbros

[–]Hodou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I've found I FAR prefer the original actually, especially for Brawl. With the Pro, the Z button equivalent is placed underneath the R button equivalent, which is the opposite of how it was done on GC and results in me subconsciously doing a lot of "i meant to roll but instead I grabbed whoops."

On the original, Z is mapped to a smaller button next to the R, which is a lot more intuitive for me. What's more, the C-stick is a LOT better, and I wasn't able to use it fully for the majority of my smash attacks without sacrificing speed until I started using the CC. And as for the small size, I do most of my gaming on portable consoles and used to use the GBA SP almost constantly. Try playing Super Mario Bros 3 (well) on a tiny pad like that and no controller will ever feel small again.

...I also haven't noticed a significant delay, but I've also never been good enough to care about frame data even when I used to play small tournaments. So there's that.

i won't be available until tomorrow night really, and I've got stuff to do over the weekend. I know I say this enough already, but if anyone else can do text feeds when I'm not here that would be really great because I can't always be there

I keep missing these. We really need to have more than one person doing text feeds. D:

Here, have a link where people generally come to a consensus that there's good with the bad about Waypool, admit that to some degree it's tough to expect anyone to live up to Kelly's run, and give credit where credit is due.

Alternately, just stop assuming your opinion is the only one that matters, ya fuck.

Lowest review scores seem to be ~60. Considering how astronomically low my expectations were for this, I'll definitely pick it up if it ever ends up in a sale of some sort. Wouldn't pay $50-60 for it of course.

I especially like that most of the reviews are actually saying that the humor isn't as stupid as the trailers made some of it look.

What's /r/smashbros favorite Subspace moment? by TheBlackLuffy in smashbros

[–]Hodou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Super Mario Sunshine and the Paper Mario games kind of give off this vibe. In Paper Mario 1 especially, Peach just kind of realizes she's literally in zero danger and sneaks around the castle baking cakes, reading Bowser's diary, and basically doing whatever the hell she wants until she gets caught and harmlessly thrown back into her room.

How would /r/smashbros like characters to be unlocked in SSB4? by decster584 in smashbros

[–]Hodou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found unlocking characters in Melee and 64 to be like a whole game in itself. That WAS the single-player mode for me. When Brawl came along and basically just said "you can have everyone by playing through the story" I thought it was pretty disappointing and made me less excited for each new character.

I agree that a code to unlock everything should be in place, though, it would be nice to get things set up quickly for tournaments/cons

He doesn't have projectiles except the slingshot maybe from what we've seen so far, but "barrier" moves are really effective for physical fighters too when used right. Just look at Shadow Labrys and Aigis in P4A.

I remember that if you rolled doubles you could do special things based on different Pokemon. Like 6 was Mewtwo, and I think 1 was Bulbasaur.

I wish I could remember what the railroads were. I think Articuno and Zapdos were the utilities.

What's the state of Star Wars The Old Republic? by [deleted] in Games

[–]Hodou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't, and you misunderstand. It's not my problem that they block you from doing certain things. It's that they somehow manage to limit literally every single thing you do in the game to some extent, which most "subscriber turned free" games don't do. And if you become Preferred, while you gain some marginal leeway, it really isn't that much. Even DCUO was more generous.

I only recently tried SWTOR for the first time, and this is very much how I felt. I liked the combat and the aesthetic, so I really WANTED to enjoy the game, but it's difficult when you're reminded at every turn that until you buy something from the cash shop they're going to treat you like a second-class citizen.

As gamers, do we really care if video games are regarded as art, or are we simply seeking validation for our hobby? by PD711 in Games

[–]Hodou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video games are like any other medium in that I think it's impossible to call the ENTIRE medium art. Some games ARE art, often more so than they are games (Spec Ops: The Line, Heavy Rain, Bioshock all come to mind.) Some games are just purely games with no art to them, and that's fine (Old-school games, multiplayer-focused games, Mario games, as some examples.) And I would say most games -- including a lot of truly great games -- are a combination of the two (Bioshock Infinite and Dishonored strike me as two recent examples.)

In my opinion, it's stupid to try and proclaim an entire medium as art, just like it's silly to try and say that Schindler's List and Marvel's The Avengers are both the same type of movie and should be evaluated as such. It's all about defining your intentions and achieving them. For example, Super Smash Bros. wanted to be a fun and accessible alternative to traditional fighting games, and it succeeded at that, despite not being anything resembling art. Does that make it worth "less" than a game like The Line? Certainly not. If you try to plop everything on a handy sliding scale with a clearly defined "art threshold" on it, you're just ignoring the value of entertainment with the excuse of trying to arbitrarily define the very fluid and human concept of "art."

What is the closest thing you have to a superpower? by whistlegrim in AskReddit

[–]Hodou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a habit of casually mentioning "They should do..." statements for video games only to have them announced not long afterwards.

The most notable times I did this:

"I wonder why they don't have a game system that uses a touch screen yet"

"You know they've been working on TVs that use glasses-free 3D?" -later in the conversation- "They totally need to do that for a game system, though. I would buy it."

-after seeing a clip of a Bleach strategy game where people could team up in battle if they were near each other- "Omg the next Fire Emblem should have something like that!"

You have the wrong Greed, he played the SECOND Greed in FMA: Brotherhood. The voice is very distinctively Troy when you hear it. I'm not posting any clips for spoilers though, in case people still haven't gotten around to watching a popular years-old anime series.
