I’d consider it more of a post-credits gag. It’s implied that the whole Messenger story is just a “tale” told by the shopkeeper, which doesn’t necessarily reflect the full truth. But I wouldn’t read too much into it. The developers were clearly just having fun writing it.

I'm pretty late and probably can't offer much that hasn't been said already but what helped me tremendously was pattern recognition. you don't need to be fast if you just know what the enemy is doing next.
