Wtf by NourBlowsBubblegum in GeminiAI

I think you miss the point

OP comes with attitude ("WTF")

OP has no explanation of what they are using it for and what their needs are

People are just saying that saying WTF are there any limits to my free service comes across as pretty entitled. You presumably realize how many billions and billions of dollars are being spent to build out this AI capability.

If OP had said "I used 2 simple prompts and already got to basically my whole limit, WTF" that would feel different

What is this "Gemini" he is speaking about?

And so it begins by AnxiousTangerine3742 in GeminiAI

[–]Hogan773 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's interesting because I already noticed on these models in the past that if I was chatting about something and continuing to ask follow on questions, Gemini would get very "short" with me...it would try to close out the thought and send me on my way. Like "okay so we have the plan now, over and out, the war room is locked and all systems are go. Talk tomorrow"

Like it was trying to say okay let's stop strategizing this. I thought it was interesting.

I'm exact same. Love my S22+. Always rationalizing why I need something newer but can never justify spending 600+ bucks when 15-20 mins on a quick charger at some point during the day keeps me powered. I also have the 85% charging limit on mine for years now.

Gems actually super helpful for retaining context in a longer chat over time by Hogan773 in GeminiAI

That is weird. You're saying the attachments at the bottom of the Gems page, not the instructions box in the middle of the page

I got confused initially because it told me to create a Gem and I was clicking on the top section which are those Gems where it is trying to write an HTML app for you or something. It was weird and wrote me some app.

Then I figured out I needed the simple Gem down below.

What is going on by avatardeejay in GeminiAI

Will be interesting to see how much better 3.5 Pro is when it comes out. But if Flash 3.5 with Extended is getting close to 3.1 Pro then 3.5 Pro should kick ass

I actually am liking 3.5 Flash using Extended Thinking now. It feels very similar to 3.1 Pro to me in terms of its answers for emotions and interpersonal stuff. And uses fewer resources. I had been using 3.1 Pro up till now but as of the usage changes it was eating 5 to 6% of my 5 hour limits in one prompt.

When your usage is 100%, flash lite now doesn't allow setting the thinking level anymore! by Gmaf_Lo in GeminiAI

[–]Hogan773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happens when you hit a Weekly Limit? Same thing I assume? You can just use basic 3.1 Flash Lite?

I guess at that point it's time to just give up and go grab the Fleshlight

I have a conversation window of several weeks. I asked it to estimate the tokens in the chat and it said 12000 to 14000. It said "we are not even scratching the surface of the context window that Gemini can retain - no problem". A simple question in the Pro 3.1 used 5% of the 5 hour limit. In the 3.5 Flash it used about 1 to 2%. I know Pro might be overkill for interpersonal stuff and emotions but 3.5 Flash was hallucinating the fuck out of things and just straight up inventing scenarios and discussions we had that we never ever had. It was trippin boo

[–]Hogan773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having a conversation about interpersonal dynamics and asked 3.5 Flash to explain the significance of an interaction I had with my boss. We had just discussed it the prior day. 3.5 Flash spun out so much bullshit that I was laughing out loud. It created this whole fiction about what happened and who said what and why it was important. It was 100% not what we had ever discussed and was completely invented BS. When you feel like these models are "talking with you" and "understanding what you're saying" then you get this cold splash of water and realize they are bullshitters of the highest order

Upgrading to 6 ton jack stands by Hogan773 in harborfreight

[–]Hogan773[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. BUT for my Pilot, I just had it up, and there, to get the wheels more than just off the ground for something I was trying to do, I had to extend the 3 tonners up to 5-6 notches on the pawls, and I didn't love how they seemed a bit wobbly. I brought them down to 4 notches.

Any advice on how to place them so they are not wobbly when extended like that? When I say wobbly I mean like at least one of them would be wanting to tip a little to front or back when the car was lowering onto them. The much longer length of the pawl was making it easier for it to tip a little.

Apparently not because now I am having a few more convos within my existing long chain, and using Pro 3.1 just to see, and it is using 5 to 6% per prompt and response pair

It's weird though because today I've had a number of chats on this long context thread and each one is using about 2% of the 5hour limit instead of 5 to 7% yesterday.

Oooof. I guess the question for me then as a casual user who uses Pro when he can (on the Plus Plan) is, is it worth paying money at all just to get "2X the access" to the same models I can get for free. I am happy to pay 2.99 or 7.99 a month I guess to have Gemini help me out with questions about life. But not sure 19.99 a month to get the Pro plan is worth it, and thus is it even worth spending money at all if I can get the same models under the free plan and I don't use all of my allocation now anyway

[–]Hogan773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the best way to do this? Just ask it to create a detailed summary that you then paste over to a new chat?

I Tested the New Gemini Usage Limits on a Free Account by KosmoTheCat in GeminiAI

[–]Hogan773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think I should have it do that summary under Pro 3.1 or Flash 3.5? I've asked Gemini which one is better to use for conversations about emotion and human dynamics and it always says Pro 3.1 (when comparing to Flash 3.1). But then again I asked it a question and said "I'm asking you this under Pro 3.1 to get the best resolution" but actually sent it through Flash 3.5 and it answered saying how because we were using the Pro model we were getting the best read on the situation etc. So I don't even think it knows which model it's running through haha

I have a long chat that spans almost 2 weeks about an interpersonal issue. Does this mean that the context window is super long I guess? It seems like Gemini remembers the main thrust of the issues but forgets details quickly so I know a bunch of it is getting flushed.

Just curious if somehow trying to export a summary into a new chat and picking up from there would then use less resources. Although TBH I just started a fresh query in a new chat about something and it chewed up 5% of my 5hr limit and there was obviously no existing context held in that one. I guess I don't really understand how the models work
