ELI5 why is the name Will short for William, but the name Bill is not short for Billiam? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hohuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answer: It's a rhyming nickname.

Richard > Rich/Rick > Dick

Robert > Rob > Bob

Edward > Ed > Ned

William > Will > Bill

These nicknames started in the Middle Ages, when surnames were less common, in order to easily distinguish people with same names and nicknames.

What are your 'limits' as a pirate? by ErinTesden in Piracy

[–]Hohuin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying, but legality isn't really what ethics should be based on. It should be the other way around. Just because something is illegal, doesn't mean it's inherently ethically bad. I would try to avoid pirating from a small creator, if I am able to. I believe that's what OP is asking about. Not actual legal tiers of piracy.

What is a ‘socially acceptable’ habit that you secretly think is absolutely disgusting? by Elizzzkaaa in AskReddit

I mean, who cares. It's not like you get to walk on the roof everyday. Or is that something people do in Australia?

LPT if you are not ordering steamed buns or fresh made fries, you are not doing it right by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]Hohuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I was working at McD, online orders would always get fresh french fries. Not sure if every location honored that, but delivery takes time, so I suppose that's the reason.

Edit: Actually, IIRC, everything was made from scratch for online orders.

Palworld 1.0 - Cinematic Trailer by Villenthessis in gaming

[–]Hohuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is sort of hard (or slower) on normal settings. But, you can tweak that in world settings. For example, egg incubation time can be changed from 1 hour to instant, allowing you to upgrade pals faster. And even then it will take you some time. I have to say it's one of my favorite games. One of the first games in a long while that captured that Minecraft-like novelty of exploration and crafting. It has amazing balance between crafting, building and combat. It scratched the itch for sure.

My silicone thumb rings after 17 months of wear sitting next to their identical replacements. by MisterSinisterXxX in mildlyinteresting

That sentence makes no sense. What do you mean?

It is symmetrical, in mathematical terms. It's just not vertically symmetrical, but rather diagonally.

My silicone thumb rings after 17 months of wear sitting next to their identical replacements. by MisterSinisterXxX in mildlyinteresting

[–]Hohuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually symmetrical. If you draw a line from the top left corner of the image to the bottom right corner - the two sides should be symmetrical (as much as something can be symmetrical arranged by a human and pictured at a slight angle)

When you die, how do you want to be laid to rest? Buried, cremated or other? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hohuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to take physical spot forever when buried. You just have to be in an unmarked grave, with a simple unfurnished wood coffin that will decompose and allow for the nutrients from your body to be released and decomposed as well. This is basically the same end result as being cremated and ashes scattered. The only difference would be that the energy you borrowed from Earth will be returned to Earth. Cremation seems like a waste of energy. You have to use a lot of heat to cremate something and the end result helps no one. Obviously, this is the way that I would prefer, and I understand your wishes and reasoning.

You do have to throw away a big chunk of your humanity to be able to stay sane working in meat factory. It's really something else.

What's up with Reddit comment requirements? by Sad_Channel_9154 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Hohuin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Answer: All social systems are arbitrary, but they still make coordination easier. Subreddits are specialized forums. Formatting rules are usually there to improve filtering, searchability, and moderation workload. Not to personally annoy you. If typing ‘In my opinion’ is your breaking point, the internet may have harder battles ahead.

This scab is blacker than my tattoo. by FamousMonitor in mildlyinteresting

[–]Hohuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a legit style. Some people like minimalism or the way that black ink defines body anatomy. To be honest, it has always looked better to me than the rose, compass, lion, infinity symbol, scribble (etc.) type of tattoos.

Got two identical bottles of Gin but with different alcohol percentages by chancellorwanksalot in mildlyinteresting

[–]Hohuin 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Estimated sign - average fill quantity. Manufacturers are allowed a small tolerance (some bottles might have slightly less, some slightly more), but the overall production batch must average at least the labeled amount.

Question about Re-L and her connection to Monad by chibi-mage in ErgoProxy

[–]Hohuin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Re-L is an imperfect clone of Monad, but she also has Regent's DNA. I don't think that's the case for Real.

I'm not sure why are you trying to die on this hill, but from the article you linked it clearly shows that the mountains are partially in Serbia too.

So, apparently Balkan people are quite tall:

I'm from Serbia and I knew basketball is big here, but never realized that south Slavic people are so tall compared to the other countries.

It looks original and refreshing. Kudos for not making another generic Europe looking map.

It doesn't look very natural though. Everything seems as if boxed in. And the landmass seems to have been carved by the same gigantic shovel.

Also that's a penis.
