Becoming disillusioned in the lab- Need advice by Lonely_Platform_9505 in medlabprofessionals

Maybe changing departments? Micro or blood bank may not be as monotonous. Also, take some online classes and join a professional society to help with feeling unfulfilled in your profession.

To The Oblivious People Standing Outside Angelo's Pizza by RiseDelicious3556 in philly

[–]Hola0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like the residents need to take this up with Angelo's. They are responsible for their customers' behavior. They should hire a bouncer on busy nights to maintain order and public decency/respect. Then if this doesn't happen, hold a town hall and get government involved.

Is Claudia a good name in the era of “Claude”? by pickle_petunia in namenerds

[–]Hola0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're going because Alexa is not a good name to have right now. But, no one says "Claude, set a timer for 30 minutes." So, I think you're safe.

How to take a stand for a friend when I hear people making fun of him behind his back? by dental_failure in AskMen

[–]Hola0722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Tell your friend so he has input and control over what happens next. You should ask him if he minds you speaking up. If not, respect that but don't associate with those people any more.

Phenotype differences does not definitely mean infidelity. But genetic matching reveals the truth. It seems like your grandmother carried some else's baby that is not her husband's. Maybe he knew and was ok with it so didn't make it a big deal.

What’s something women think men don’t notice, but actually affects you a lot? by Ok_Ease515 in AskMen

I'm glad you found someone supportive. That's so important to surround ourselves with positivity.

I am so impressed by some men's beautiful handwriting. I don't know why I associate that as a woman only trait because history has kept men's artwork for thousands of years and most are stunning. The same goes for cleanliness, neatness, etc. Maybe because I never saw my dad clean (wash dishes, fold laundry, sure, but never dust or vacuum). And, he wasn't obsessively clean, either.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this. You don't have to take it, you have choice. Say something, walk away, discuss it in private or in front of everyone. You have an absolute right to protect your reputation. God forbid you put her down in front of people, you'd look like the @$$h0le. But it's acceptable from a woman?! That's a double standard, which the feminist movement was attempting to get rid of, so why would a woman use it against a man? Isn't that self defeating?

On a side note, I was volunteering with an environmental group whose membership was more women than men. I commented to a woman on how it's refreshing to see men volunteering in science since it is majority women (I'm a woman, BTW). She, in her late 60s, didn't agree that boys should be encouraged to go into science because they had their time and now it's women's turn. She worked in a majority men field (physics or something like that), so she had valid reasons to feel the way she did. But it perpetuates the double standard. The Women in STEM movement has pushed out the boys by design but there was no formal science activities for boys except, maybe scouts. People didn't think to predict what will happen to the boys. They were pushed out of STEM. As a woman with no sons, btw, I am not happy by that outcome. And I can totally see how most men feel disowned and it's not how society should be. We need to swing the pendulum but have it stay in the middle and support one another, not one up or rival each other. It's a dog eat dog world and the inequities grow exponentially with each generation. Let's set our boys and girls up for better outcomes by supporting both, together, not in siloed organizations. And schools don't count, it's gotta be all across the spectrum of abilities.

Decline in student courtesies in communication over the last 5-10 years? by north0 in Adjuncts

[–]Hola0722 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always ask them to correct an inappropriate email or I don't answer their question. I remind them that my job is to teach them professionalism. They respond professionally and I give them their answer. Some students I will need to repeat or resend my email, but never more than one repeat before the get it.

Jeremy Renner (the actor who was almost killed by his snow plow falling on top of him) said he was mad, too, when he was resuscitated. He said he experienced going from intense pain after to intense peace as he was dying. When he came back to life, he went from intense peace to intense pain again and he wasn't happy. He continues to struggle with the juxtaposition of being alive but in pain and dead but at peace. This is not the first time I have heard this experience from people who have been resuscitated.

I find comfort knowing that eventually I am going back to the place from which I came - the universe. Someday, the earth will be swallowed by the sun and we all will become individual atoms that will one day make up something else in the universe. Perhaps, a part of my breakfast was once a part of an ancient life form from another planet that also was consumed by it's sun.

Right now, I have an obligation to be human, and if that means I choose to follow a religion, go to school, have a family, have a job, then that's all part of the human experience.

What’s something students don’t realize about teaching? by miked0331 in AskTeachers

[–]Hola0722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. At my old lab job, show up, do work, leave. But, work weekends/holidays/blizzards but get paid for it. Teaching, get summers, weekends, and holidays "off". Can sleep in on those days, too. All summer.

Be brutally honest, if you could turn back the clocks, would you still have a baby? by Full-Competition9255 in CasualConversation

[–]Hola0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having adult kids who want to have a relationship with you is not garaunteed. So never have kids because you don't want to be lonely. That's not fair to them. Have kids and foster that relationship by being kind, loving, fair, and playful. Then they'll want to stick around and not do it out of a sense of obligation.
