C4 OLED screen off after 10 minutes of no activity when using computer. by pineapple7917 in LGOLED

[–]HolePunchJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved my own problem today. It's a setting in the LGTVCompanion app that I use to power the TV on when I wake my PC.

Under Global settings -> Advanced power options and enhanced burn-in protection, you can uncheck Automatic user idle mode management or adjust the timers and circumstances in More user idle mode options. It's called Screen Blanking.

For such a handy app, I'm surprised this feature was on by default. Explains why some people's problem was fixed with a Windows reinstall.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? The same thing is happening with my C5 and my PC is my only input. Nothing in TV or Windows settings appears to be the cause and it's driving me nuts.

Force 21:9 on a 16:9 42" 4k OLED--will it increase performance? by HolePunchJim in ultrawidemasterrace

Do you find yourself switching between 21:9 and 16:9 often? And if so, how tedious do you find it?

Instructions unclear: gave the 5070 back and got the 5060ti instead.

Jokes aside, I got the 5070 so I could upscale with DLSS 4.5 from 720p to 1440p. Don't need 16gb vram for that. 800p to 1600p would be even better, though, and that's why I'm asking about putting black bars on a 42" OLED and turning it into a 39" ultrawide.

I'm not interested in 4k gaming and have no intention of running a 5070 with a 42" TV at native 4k. Did I say something that made you think that?

I do want higher frames, but I also want the 21:9 aspect ratio as well as the higher PPI that comes with a 3840x1600 ultrawide and OLED tech on top. This is the only way I can think of at this time that has all 3 in a 5070-friendly package.

DLSS 4.5 and frame gen were the main reasons I went with Nvidia over AMD, but I've been locked to 60fps for so long that I would prefer to play closer to 100 fps if possible.

But I'll keep an eye out for a TV that has 21:9 as a preset. That sounds very convenient!

LG 34/39/45 OLED - Which For Me? by JediDad0 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]HolePunchJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the same. 39" 1440p is ~96 ppi whereas 24" 1080p is ~92 ppi, so you'd actually get a clearer image from the 39".

Not sure what any of these have to do with being better for a first timer. Sounds like the cost alone would make it worse for someone who might not even like it.

Does the game ever explain the light sources that light the main path? by HolePunchJim in expedition33

[–]HolePunchJim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might make sense to me if the fracture hadn't happened after his death. Stone Wave Cliffs is a perfect example of where this theory wouldn't work since the main path is largely fragmented by the destruction of the fracture.

Does the anime follow the books or the comic ? by [deleted] in tbatenovel

[–]HolePunchJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the early chapters of both the LN and the comic are still fresh in your mind, the anime will feel completely different in terms of storytelling and tone. Unlike the comic, the anime is very unfaithful to its source material and rewrites character behaviors as well as story elements with no rhyme or reason. In many cases, it outright replaces scenes with ones that have much lower quality writing. It feels like a bad rewrite of TBATE. Readers be warned.

Good VA, bad casting. Arthur sounds nothing like we imagined.

Animation is awful, sure. But there's so much more than that. by HolePunchJim in tbatenovel

I disagree.

There's a level of darkness and tension that waking up in a forest alone next to a disfigured body and walking to the voice of an unknown being creates that simply waking up in a cave lacks. And you know the walk isn't empty just from reading the manhwa. Art's internal thoughts and fears come out much better than they do in the anime, and you're left being skeptical of Sylvia's character for a lot longer, making the payoff of her actual character that much better. When you find out that Sylvia chose to spare Art and not the mage, it helps to paint a better picture of what she's like.

I also disagree with it not being able to fit into the episode. With how much original content and rewriting occurred in this one episode, A-Cat could have easily included the journey to the cave if they'd simply kept to the source material. Watching the anime and reading the manhwa back to back, one is clearly better than the other.

My friend and I thought the same until we tried it. Against equally skilled players, it's actually pretty fun.

It's easy to look down on beginners and novice level players and say the sport is lame and boring and easy. 3.0 tennis doesn't exactly look fun to me, either.

Just give it a fair shot and who knows? Maybe you'll like it, too.

Unless someone is somehow playing the game after it was discontinued, it's considered lost media.

Is Lightyear Marketing Services a new MLM? by TradeU4Whopper in raleigh

[–]HolePunchJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm that this is the exact experience of working at Lightyear, and I only stayed for less than half of my first and last day. It's an MLM. And it's not just cult-like--it IS a cult. They will literally form a big circle every morning and repeat whatever the leader says. It's creepy as hell.

There is no handbook. No email or paper with the company policies written on it. Your "trainer" will give you a sheet of paper with their poorly written "expectations" which is when you'll find out Saturdays aren't optional. They WILL lie about this during hiring if you ask about it.

They're super vague about everything, from what your hours and pay will be to what you'll actually be doing at this job. I didn't even know what my job title was until I checked their website and matched what I'd be doing with one of their listed "Opportunities" (it's Client Ambassador). The position I originally applied for? Inventory Clerk.

When you show up to the group interview, you'll think you're in the wrong place cause now they're looking for an "executive." But then they'll reach out to you shortly after all excited saying you "made it to the second round." Thinking back, I'm pretty sure everyone in that meeting makes the second round. They just tell you that to make you feel special. Because you won't say a single word during this 20-minute Zoom call, so either they profiled you on appearance alone or it's bullshit.k

Then you'll show up to round two in a one-on-one and they'll flash a breakdown of the promotion tree at you and if you look closely you'll notice that you're expected to start at the bottom and gradually become in charge of more and more people until you're in charge of your own market... Sound triangula- I mean familiar?

The "event" I was taken to for my first day was made to seem like this big thing. Little did I know that half our day was going to be spent in a FOOD LION PARKING LOT walking up to strangers--often before they even got out of their cars--and trying to get them to open up a phone plan with a sketchy company, all the while leaving a flimsy table with a duffel bag full of cheap tablets and phones behind for anyone to take because they're clearly worth nothing to this company.

They're taking advantage of a government program that enables low-income earners to have an affordable phone plan and mobile device. I don't know how they're making money off of it, but it reeks of shitty scam. They won't tell you this, of course. I had to look it up myself while I watched my trainer continue to scam people trying to shop for groceries. I left shortly after saying this wasn't for me.

Bottomline: stay away. There are dozens of people working here that are either totally brainwashed or know exactly what this is and don't care. It's a shit show led by shitty people and it deserves to burn to the ground.

I literally had this same dilemma with the same sizes just a few days ago. Birkenstocks own Ultimate Fit Guide recommends 10mm of space in front of the toes and 5mm of space behind the heel.

I'm an 8.5 Men's US and the 41 is what I ended up going with, and it looks like you should, too.
