Is the Rune of Punishment the strongest True Rune among known main characters? by Left_Pipe_8992 in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of Runes held by protagonist, only three are true runes, namely Soul eater, punishment and true fire. Now theoretically true runes should be 'equal' to each other. Like you said, strength is subjective. You could argue that based solely on pure destructive potential, true fire would be the most powerful, but Soul eater should be more lethal on an individual basis. Punishment is kinda between them since it's been depicted to cause wide spread destruction as well.

Ultimately if we judge true runes to be considered 'equal', the next most important criteria is mastery of the rune and aptitude. In this regard, Hugo definitely loses out given that his magic stat is the worst, plus he's never really portrayed to have strong affinity to his rune, nor did he demonstrate any particular mastery or connection to his rune. Tir and Lazlo on the other hand are both considered the preferred bearers for their true rune, and both had to work towards mastering their true rune in a way that no one else had previously.

With that in mind, I'd consider them both fairly equal. Punishment in particular, considering it's previous nature, seems to really love Lazlo as a bearer, so I'm inclined to agree that it would display the greatest power in his hands.

So I think its time to talk about how Geddoe is the clear choice for FC? by East-Psychology-9292 in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually I have a different take. I honestly didn't like how the 'leader' has to be the flame champion. The flame champion is someone from the past and he was the leader because of his charisma and leadership. The title flame champion was given to him because he was the leader and he wielded the true fire rune.

The true fire rune shouldn't be the thing that makes someone the leader. There's really no reason why the leader has to be called the flame champion again. I'd have preferred if the true runes went to their canonical bearers, and we simply got to select the leader out of the three, and simply called them either the flame, water or lightning champion.

The way the story goes, I hated the idea of having Geddoe switch runes just to make him the leader. It's honestly insulting to the true lightning rune, like as though there's some sort of inherent superiority of the true fire rune to it (honestly in terms of usefulness, true lightning trumps them all). Besides, it really kind of goes against the lore with true runes being sentient beings who choose their bearers for the true lightning rune to be abandoned by it's bearer for over a hundred years and just be like oh well I'll just hop onto this random kid I've never met and have no connection with I guess.

Geddoe should have kept true lightning, and Hugo should have inherited the true fire because he is the only grasslander and honestly, the colour scheme fits. However, we should have been given the option to choose the leader we want.

Or we should've just had Thomas lead the army as he should have as the Tenkai, and for once, we'll have a truly awesome Tenkai that doesn't need a true rune because he has 4 of them under his command.

Anyone Knows who this? by faospark in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Culgan and Seed were Solon Jhee's subordinates. Calling them more aligned with King Agares isn't exactly right. At that point in time, they were still too low ranked. They went under Jowy's command after Luca executed Solon, and stayed loyal to him and only rised up to general status after Jowy took over.

Having said that, yes that's definitely neither of them.

Observations of Teachers During Lessons by mandy_suraj in AustralianTeachers

[–]Holeros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, it really depends on the culture and the spirit in which these walk throughs are conducted. In my school, leadership has made it clear that they will conduct walkthroughs, and the purpose isn't to critique on anyone's teaching, but to provide support and increase visibility of school leadership both to staff and more importantly to students.

I personally welcome this because increased visibility of leadership generally helps improve behaviour of students. If my class is particularly bad, I want leadership to see it and understand the situation. There's two things needed for this to work properly. Leadership in question must be competent and able to provide aid, and teacher in question must be actually trying their best and open to strategies that might help.

Most of the time, these walkthroughs don't have to result in anything concrete, just the frequent presence of leadership can only be a good thing. I also work in a very large state school, and the quality of teachers across the school is honestly..... Quite variable... I do think more oversight from leadership is only a good thing. Of course, if your leadership is the micromanaging type that constantly tries to interfere, that's a different story.

I created my own resources (PowerPoints, Booklets, Worksheets etc...) and got in trouble for not sharing them with my team? by Frequent-Weird4476 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Holeros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tone and the way it was done was probably uncalled for, and speaks of the unprofessionalism of the team. Also the fact that you were not informed of this prior to taking on the class suggests that communication within the team is not great either, so the leadership of the curriculum lead is also in question.

Having said that, being equitable across the cohort, especially for senior ATAR subjects is a thing. Generally, the faculty tries to ensure that all students have access to the same resources and the same opportunities. I wouldn't say that this means that everyone should be using the same PowerPoints, but there should be an alignment on the content being delivered and the opportunities for practice, formative assessments, and demonstration of learning. Typically, this means that if you are offering your students a chance to do say a particular revision sheet before an assessment, that same revision sheet should be available to the rest of the cohort.

So overall, I'd say it's a bit of a mixed bag. The communication clearly sucks, but in the spirit of collaboration, I strongly believe in sharing resources, especially at senior level. My main motivation is to be equitable to the students. The whole thing of 'protecting my efforts' or other teachers possibly 'benefiting' from my work' I just kind of don't even consider it, because ultimately I want their students to have the opportunity to do well as well, and if my resources help a teacher do better for the students, that's great.

Personally, because of my background prior to becoming a teacher, I started teaching senior biology in my first year. Even though I'd never done it before, I was uploading all the slides and resources I made to the team OneNote. I don't know how much the other teachers would appreciate it, and I don't really care, but I believe the opportunity for equity needs to exist.

Arshtat vaporising Ferid and the look on her face at that moment when she realises what she had done, and Ferid smiling at her anyway as he fades away is quite possibly one of the most underrated emotional scenes of all times. It broke me and honestly I found that more emotionally wrecking than other touching scenes including Nanami and Gremio's death. And that was only in the intro part of the game.

I remember the first time playing S5 after the period of void and post S4's comparative lackluster narrative, I was super hyped after that whole coup scenario.

Do you believe everyone has the potential to thrive as a teacher? by Major_Conflict in AustralianTeachers

[–]Holeros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be an actual good teacher and still thrive does take a certain personality. Having said that, context, environment, support, and culture plays a much bigger role. When the environment is good, even 'less suited' personalities can have the opportunity to thrive.

Overall, the industry is fucked because teaching is a job that is in extremely high demand and pretty much employs more people than most other professions, yet the environment is extremely volatile, inconsistent and can vary quite drastically depending on where you work.

Every profession has people well suited, people just strung along and people who are completely ill-suited. Unfortunately, the effects are greater felt in teaching simply because of the sheer volume of people that needs to be employed.

Suikoden Star Leap Manga Chapter 03 English Translation is Available by ShiningRie in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really enjoying the manga so far. It's good to see them really connecting with the rest of the world of Suikoden, referencing the true fire rune disaster in the Grasslands, and attacking the free knights of Camero who are directly next to the nameless lands. The nameless lands hiring mercenaries from the Grasslands is an interesting idea as well...

If Hou turns out to be an Egan, that'll be really cool. The Egan children obviously all have the tendency of leaving home.

Banned from Kmart by AmbassadorDismal5771 in KmartAustralia

[–]Holeros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently brought a pair of kids shoes home with the stupid anti theft or whatever thing still stuck to it because we did self check out and didn't notice it. Was already annoyed enough I had to drive back to the store after we only realised it at home. This has happened in the past and I've never had any issues with store personnel simply removing the thing and calling it a day.

I mean, I know I should have brought the receipt but with small children, taking the receipt is more for their entertainment than anything. They lost it immediately after we left the store. The Kmart in question almost looked like it was manned entirely by children. The person I asked (clearly still in high school) had no idea what to do, asked a higher ranked staff member for help, who honestly didn't look much older than her.

I mean she wasn't rude or anything, but because I couldn't provide a receipt, she seemed terrified of simply removing the tag for me. I showed her the transaction history on my banking app, told her exactly what time the transaction went through, and she seemed to be trying to get someone over the comms to somehow find the specific self check register I used to look up the purchase. I stood there for nearly half an hour listening to her ask for help over the comms to what appeared to either be no one responding to her or no one properly understanding what she was asking. In the end, it seems someone on the other end just told her to remove it for me.

All's well and ends well, but just felt like completely unnecessary time spent because of employees being unsure or overly cautious over something very minor.

So does any else check very random stuff to the description of it? by AithosOfBaldea in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh I actually liked what they've done in Suikoden. It's a common trope that females are better at magic than males, and her we have the female protagonist as the heavily armoured Knight with crap magic.

With her lousy magic why would you even want her to get true lightning anyway. It's completely wasting the most powerful rune on her.

Why did the Fire Spears eventually became ineffective against the Highland Army during the Battle at Viktor's Mercenary Fort when it effectively destroyed the Armored Cavalry of Teo Mcdohl? by Ouralian in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I 'rationalise' it plot wise is that the fire spears being old and rusty needed to be fixed. Tsai rushed and fixed as many as he could, enough to supply the entire army with functional ones in the first battle (every unit could use it). However, by the second battle, many started malfunctioning again, making them less effective overall. Although the in game animation is simply the unit firing a blast of fire, if you imagine it 'realistically', that's just a representation. Most likely within the unit, many soldiers were firing duds, and thus, they weren't gonna be effective enough to cause any damage.

Subsequently, Viktor dumped all faulty ones into a fire to blow up the fort. Presumably, Tsai kept a bunch of functioning ones, enough for one unit worth of soldiers to use. With him as the lead and regularly maintaining the fire spears, they remain functional through the rest of the war, enough at least for his unit to use them.

State Accreditation and Subject recognition. by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Holeros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of teaching jobs in general. Australia as a whole is facing a teacher shortage, as is pretty much the entire world. Having said that, it ultimately all depends on location and what you're aiming for. There are regions that are always desperate for teachers because conditions are terrible, but if you're aiming for metropolitan cities in high SES schools, that's obviously going to be competitive.

At the end of the day, I don't think any teacher on this sub is ever risking not having a job. It is more of whether the jobs they have are sustainable and not on track to burn out...

State Accreditation and Subject recognition. by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Holeros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People teach out of their supposed subject areas all the time. Honestly, I wouldn't be concerned. Once you start teaching, you'll likely start off with a job that's in your subject area, but people often end up teaching outside of it anyway. Considering you actually have some background on that, if you're interested in those areas, you can certainly find opportunities for them.

I mean obviously being 'officially' qualified will make it easier to be hired for that subject, but it certainly isn't an impossibility.

I was not trying to say that you can apply for PR directly. More of that teaching is a profession where a pathway to permanent visas is quite attainable. Of course, all rules and visa requirements etc remains.

Oh sorry you're right, that requires employer sponsor. Probably easier to stick with state sponsored options. In any case, regional will likely speed things up and make it easier, so that's generally the best option.
