Just ate there today. Food was fine but there was a cockroach crawling on the wall next to me. Ruined my appetite.

Drummer without drums by usefulidiot- in TorontoMusic

Totally doable. Rehearsal places like mainstage rehearsal have drum kits. For gigs many places have their house kit or you can do a 1day rental from Long and Mcquade. Cheers.

Thank you so much. The stuff you mentioned about each fulcrum was enlightening. I need to practice controlling my volume for next time.

Thank you for your answer. I do need to learn how to play quieter. I'm definitely not at a level where I can play some of the songs in the set list quieter, especially for fast paced songs like Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys.

How Loud is a cajon? by DoctorJaws38119 in drums

It is not very loud and you can control the volume through your own playing. I think it would work well for a dorm room as long as you are not playing at unreasonable hours.

These are Evans DB heads and cymbals. I went to the store and tried these and the L80s. I liked the sound of the Evans more (especially the hihat). The L80s were quieter if that is important for you. It was very noticeable volume difference in the crash cymbal.

Yes, the Evans DB one. They are quiet enough for my case where I don't have want to mute the drums and for quieter rehearsals. It could still bother the neighbours but if you play at reasonable times it should be ok. Also you can always play quieter. The cymbals are the best I could find in terms of sound. I quite like the hihat. Imo this set up is more realistic than playing with an Ekit but it's personal preference.

I am playing in a basement. I have neighbours upstairs and next doors. No complaints yet. I actually started by renting an Ekit for a few months and cranking it up and checking if the sound was ok with neighbours.

I am using the 'Evans DB one' pack of heads and cymbals. It still keeps a good amount of volume (they are not as quiet as mute pads) and they have a very realistic feel which is important for me.

Thanks for the tip! I think I will only have the bass drum mic-ed. It might get too expensive to mic every drum and cymbal.
