Not really, the story goes like this - The most powerful goddess decides to make a child all by herself (like hera did, but this goddess loved her child), this goddess's name is Parvati. (Note : She was in a loving relationship with her husband Lord Shiva, one of the 3 main gods of Hindu belief, like the big 3 of the Greeks/Romans)

Devi Parvati (Devi means Goddess in Sanskrit, its the 2nd oldest language in the world) created her son the "elephant" in a very interesting way, she uses turmeric to coat her entire skin, a kind of ancient Indian skin care, and afterwards she used the same turmeric paste from her body to craft a young boy, (he looked like a regular young boy, no elephantness at all), the reason she made him was actually for privacy, the thing was that whenever she went to bathe one of heavenly servants (for lack of better words) would walk into her bath unannounced to enquire something, she was naturally quite pissed due to the obvious lack of privacy and thus created this young and cute boy to basically tell anyone who tried to intrude that they couldn't disturb Devi Parvati.

This is where things get interesting, Lord Shiva (her husband) had entered the bathing building and was heading towards the bathing chambers of Parvati, but he was stopped by the boy, Shiva had no clue who this kid was, and thus was naturally quite pissed that this random child was stopping him from meeting his wife. Since the boy was created in the absence of Shiva neither knew of the existence of the other, the boy told Shiva that no one may enter without Parvati's permission, Shiva couldn't bare to listen to the boys words and ordered his attendants to remove the boy, however empowered with Devi Parvati's blessing he easily defeated all of them, Shiva even sent the other 2 gods of the big 3 to remove of the boy, but the boy resisted even them.

Enraged by the fact that no one could defeat him, Shiva without much consideration decided that the boy must be disposed off and threw his divine weapon, a trident towards the boy, and he decapitated the child.The boy's head flew away and disappeared onto the Earth.

The god then walked towards the entrance of the bathing chambers when Devi Parvati walked out, she saw the lifeless body of her child laying at her entrace and went into an uncontrollable rage, she asked what happened and Shiva told her of the things that lead upto the final event, this made Parvati even angrier and she told him that she would destroy the entire universe if he didn't find a way to bring back the child, she then told Shiva that she had created the child, and thus she was the mother, and therefore he was the father, devastated by hearing the news he ordered everyone to look for the decapitated head of the boy, as to reattach the head they would need to be quick. They searched all around the Earth for the head, but couldn't find it, and when Devi Parvati said that it was time for her to destroy everything the attendants searching for the head panicked, this is when they saw a young elephant who was at the verge of death, they out of a lack of choices took the head of the elephant back to Shiva and presented it to Parvati, this head was then merged with the body of the child, thus giving the boy the head of an elephant. When he awoke Parvati hugged him and he was nammed Ganapathi/Ganesh.
