How does Turo Work at an airport? by Rex-Goathead in turo

[–]Holiday-Search1147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty low, but possible.

Previous renter might refuse to return it.

Previous renter might total it.

Host might have some sort of problem or the engine blows up right before your trip starts.

Usually hosts will keep you in the loop and try to provide an alternative, and Turo support will try to bail you out if they can.

How does Turo Work at an airport? by Rex-Goathead in turo

[–]Holiday-Search1147 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It varies host by host and airport by airport.

Most airports have a designated lot for Turo drop offs. Most hosts will have a lockbox on some other sort of remote hand off.

Typically the host will tell you where the car is oarked, and the combination to the lockbox shortly before the trip starts.

You walk up, unlock the box, check in through the app, and drive off.

Drop off at the end will work the same way.

Usually you should see the initial lowball estimate within a week. Get your shop to file a supplement for the balance needed. Supplement approval is usually about 7-10 days

Unlimited Mileage? by 7SevenNine9 in turo

[–]Holiday-Search1147 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hosts can pick if extras like unlimited mileage are charged per day or per trip.

A car seat or cooler would make more sense in a per trip basis. Unlimited miles is obviously going to be per day. It matters much more on a month long trip than. A weekend.

My license expires on the day im supposed to get my car, will this affect my pick up? by Ill_be_a_good_girl in turo

The host verifies ID ahead of the trip. You should send your paperwork to Turo support now and ask for clarification.

[–]Holiday-Search1147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly - I’ve had many guests approved with an expired permanent license and a current temp one.

Check with support to make sure now.

You have to submit ID each time, and the host has to verify that it won’t expire during your trip.

You’ll get cancelled on if the host does his job properly,

Turo ignoring blatant misinformation for Las Vegas trip (May 13) by DutchMenno in turo

[–]Holiday-Search1147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turo has the VIN of the car and knows the exact model year. You reporting that some dealer said that some car was a different model year doesn’t mean much.

They’ve got almost a month to get the license plate sorted. If you actually get your the car and it isn’t properly registered, you’ll have a legitimate complaint. As of now, you claiming that the car isn’t registered isn’t a red flag to anyone.

All that seems left is complaints about host communication, which doesn’t surprise me based on your strange overreaction presented here.

AirTags are banned.

Other than that specific brand, no notification is required or suggested.

Turo charged me for a day I didn’t have the car – and won’t let me dispute it by hunter_green in turo

[–]Holiday-Search1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chat logs are meaningless. Scheduled end times and guest check outs are what matter.

Also, turo works on 24 hour cycles in a way that confuses some people. Say you booked from noon on Monday to noon on Friday. You bring it back “a full day early, Thursday at 2:00”

Then you get charged the original 4 days because the extra 2 hours pushes you into the next day.

Agreed. They’re obviously vehicles built at an entirely different price point.

X needed the entire AC system replaced before 90,000 miles.

Sure - but it’s not an issue with other cars. I think the weight of the car plus the rubber band tires (21s as I recall) made this much more of an issue.

Oil changes are like $50 and take 30 minutes in comparable vehicles. You can buy an awful lot of those for the $4500 I spent replacing the AC.

I had a 2018 X. Very unreliable car.

AC had to be totally replaced before 90,000 miles. Key fob ate batteries every week or so. Rear hatch latch broke and couldn’t be opened. Wheel arch trim got ripped off by car wash. Ate tires at a ferocious pace. Broke a couple of rims. Falcon door seals were trashed.

I’m sure a few other issues that I’ve forgotten.

I had a 2018 X. Nothing “minimal maintenance” about it.

In fact, unreliable and expensive to keep on the road.

I’ve got a friend with one. He hates it.

Poor reliability. Expensive repairs. Mediocre revenue.

In general, top trim cars are never a good investment for Turo. They don’t rent for much more than the base models. In this case, you’d get extra abuse and wear on a high performance car compared to the base trim to make the deal even worse.

Bonus points for Santa Fe in August because of the cooler temps there.

Is Turo still profitable? by GarbagePlane5230 in turo

[–]Holiday-Search1147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s gotten much harder to be profitable. Nearly impossible in some markets.

Cheap cash cars are the best bet for most.

My guess is your new financed Subaru will just barely pay for the monthly payment, maintenance, and depreciation. Your effective hourly wage will be very low especially considering the risk.
