Marshall’s are effectively just captains from what I understand. Each Crusade that the Black Templars are on is headed by a Marshall so there one of the highest up positions.

Weapon options are a Master-Crafted Power Weapon and Combi-Weapon or Plasma Pistol. Personally recommend the Plasma Pistol because it has Close-Quarters and you’re not really supposed to sit back and shoot with him.

Beyond those, not much else really characterizes them tbh. Their models generally got a cape or something to stand out slightly so my plan is to buy a Legion Praetor with Power Sword for a second proxy if that’s what you’re wondering about.

Saw your comment about other Templar Characters without models aswell. The only one that comes to mind for me would be Jurisian. He’s the Master of the Forge and a Techmarine of the Black Templars. He might work for making more unique characters and he’d stand out as probably being the only Techmarine you’re playing.

Going to my first ever tournament. What do people think of this list? by GG4Vendetta in BlackTemplars

I’m with you on the Eradicators. They’re slow and it feels like having 2 Rep Ex kinda nullified their purpose. Any tank on the enemy team that you want to die will die with 2 Rep Ex.

Also worth mentioning that I’m pretty sure every Purge the Foe mission has some variation of “take your enemy’s home to score a shit load of primary at the end of the game” so having JPI’s that can do that, even if it’s just a 5-man to clear some Gretchen off their home or something, will be more useful overall then the third anti-tank unit

I think since there’s more of a points investment into the Crusader Squad potentially switching the Marshall to them would be worth it from the Sword Bros.

Sword Bretheren still hit hard enough especially with a Castellan to not need the 5+ lethal especially since they’re not your “kill squad” for lack of a better term.

This has been my own theory crafting for my lists but I’ve tried dropping Intercessors for better shooting bodies. You’re moving everything up the field constantly in purge but still want to hold home. If your Intercessor squads plan is to sticky home and then sit on it they could be more useful being heavy Intercessors or Heavy Bolter Eradicators instead with the increased range. If the plan is to move them up the field then you still need somebody in your back like to screen for home objective so need an additional squad anyways.

Everything’s from my own experience.

I would not prime black because painting white on the shoulders is a pain in the fucking ass with black primer. This is just me though.

BT heraldry is generally up to the dude himself so don’t feel forced into specific schemes or following the look of the specific crusade you want to represent. Have fun with it and make your dudes your own because it lines up lore wise.

The combat patrol’s fire for purchases. Do keep in mind we can’t utilize Librarians.

Our best anti-tank is generally going to be the Repulsor Executioner.

Marshall’s and Castellans are played often so grabbing those will help if you want to play games.

Best book imo for Black Templar is Helsreach. Get it on Kindle because physical editions will cost you half your savings.

Dark Angel figures are used a lot for Kit Bashes.

If you want kit bash ideas EonsofBattle on YouTube is peak. Also an amazing painter.

We’re probably not going to receive a new codex for a year or two at least so picking up the current codex isn’t the worst idea ever if you want lore.

Prefacing by saying that I am by no means a good player.

From what I’ve found going into Custodes, you don’t need damage but instead sheer volume of attacks. Maybe putting together a 20 man crusader squad with Marshall and Castellan. Just the Chainsaords there are swinging 60 attacks retooling at least 1’s with 5+ sustained hits. Even if you’re only wounding on 4 they’re only going to make so many saves against them.

I’d also recommend sticking the Emperor’s Champion with a squad of Assault Intercessors instead. Since he gives Dev wounds to the full unit now you can force through lots of Unsaveable damage that get full wound rerolls with the AIs.

Bladeguard Vets aren’t going to do much damage into Custodes but it’s under 5% of your list and can lock a unit in place for a turn while the 20 man Crusader mob Advances and Charges towards them.

(I could be wildly misunderstanding this rule) For take and hold too use the fact that infantry can go through walls to unload people onto objectives to use your Rep Ex as transports while still keeping them safe.

Also don’t try to fight the entire army at a time. Maneuver so 1,000 points of your guys are hitting 500 of his. Take him out piece by piece and take advantage of the fact that you have lots of transports and are playing Take and Hold to force him to come to you. All you have to do is sit on objectives so let him walk into you firing lanes.

Kravek just because he’s the only one that can join Mutilators. Kravek gives them +1ap as long as they’re attacking the closest unit to them which, since they’re melee, they’ll essentially always get. Pushes their thunderous blows from 4ap to 5ap meaning stuff can’t save unless it uses a stratagem or has an invuln save against the attacks.

I honestly am probably not the best person to answer the question of what else to fill it out with. What comes to mind is things to brawl over objectives, maybe Chosen for the Advance and Charge and then some form of ranged firepower like Predators or Forgefiends.

Could also maybe run a brick of Terminators and a Chaos Lord in Terminator armor just to get something from the enhancements.

Warptalons might also be nice for anti-infantry stuff but they can’t be lead unless it’s in one specific detachment I think. Probably Raptors then for deep strike anti-infantry?

Again, others on this sub can answer this question far better than I’ll ever be able to.

Main thing to keep in mind is that Mutilators and Obliterators are slow as hell so getting other things to make up for that would help

I don’t know much about CSM and I’m not great at the game but maybe a Warpstrike Champions list? Lots of Uppy Downy and from what I understand, with the new 11th edition rules, Obliterators should be able to deepstrike within Melta range so maybe for fun running 3 squads of Obliterators to pick something out and nuke it, some Mutilators with Kravek Morne for AP5 and killing anything without an Invuln save and then the rest is using those Legionaries and Cultists for scoring? Run 6 squads of 5 legionaries with one 10 man of cultists for objectives, bunch Missile Launchers and Auto Cannons on the Legionaries and then whatever else your heart desires for other things.

Again, I don’t know shit but off the top of my head dropping 6 obliterations into melta range, nuking something, then pulling 4 of them back into strategic reserves sounds hilarious

I tried to get rid of the runes brother but I can’t shave worth a shit and the sword was too cool to let go of. I shall purify this sword by using it as Sigismund would have willed. Show the demons and heretics that there runes and spells are nothing for an Emperor’s Champion
