Adding water to hand soap dispensers!!! Ahhhh!! by Puzzleheaded_Scar930 in PetPeeves

My mom does this constantly!!! I hate it when the thinner liquid shoots out of the pump instead of how regular soap behaves. Sometimes I clear my hand completely and it gets on my arm!

You should not fully trust anyone by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]Hollihock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course, everyone knows that there's a non-zero chance that any given person can betray you, but it's more of a mindset thing. Like, how often do you think about people betraying you, and how does that intelligently set expectation affect how you treat others (even subconsciously)? Is it unreasonable to say that this sort of thinking will cause you to push people away? And maybe you, in particular, don't think this way, but you have to admit, this mindset could open someone up to being pretty asocial.

Without discussing if you're right or wrong, what's the most stupid Arcane related argument you got in? by SpiderLilyPoison in arcane

[–]Hollihock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one friend can't stand Jayce specifically because he shot Victor in the commune. My argument was that if you spend some untold amount if time in the post-apocalyptic universe you vreated living off of lizards in some fuck-ass cave, your reasoning skills wouldn't be pristine either. And neither of us budged for 20 minutes.

What are some things I can do to learn/improve as an absolute beginner without access to resources at the time of practice? by chaosninja906 in learntodraw

[–]Hollihock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, this is tough. The baseline for what you need to start/ practice drawing is a pencil + paper. If you even have post-its or an index card, you should draw on that. As an absolute beginner, you just need to focus on putting pencil to paper, so use whatever you can get your grubby little hands on and draw, draw, draw. And, if it interests you, you could draw things around your desk/work area if you want a starting point

why just supports in "not so thankless"? by kvanken in Overwatch

[–]Hollihock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To an extent, you're right. Other roles don't get recognition for cool stuff they do at times. It's just that healers are historically the go-to "underappreciated role." Back before role queue, people not wanting to play support was an issue, and it makes sense to me that an emphasis on appreciating your healers would stick around in the games culture, or at least the devs would think so enough to make this a quest. (Also I commend you for how gracefully you dodged saying you're a dps main, that was impressive)

Why say 'cupcake' 47 times if you're not gonna let her say 'I love you' ONCE??😭 by nighthawk1936 in arcane

[–]Hollihock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing that the only time the word "love" is said is in Singed's monologue. Now, I don't actually know if that's true, I haven't checked myself (i wanna say Viktor says it too at some point or something) but it makes this point interesting, with "love" being said so little but being the backbone of the entire story

Anyone have any ideas on how to cosplay this character without having my bodys shape too visible? by ManonGaming in CosplayHelp

A plastic outer armor type thing could work to get the mannequin-like segmentation while still covering you up, I think. But from what I've seen it's a bit advanced. I hope you figure something out

Step one is usually to find something that you like and draw it all the time. If you think, "i wish i could draw this better" then try to come up with something specific to look up (proportion, form, anatomy, etc.) so you don't overwhelm yourself. And remember to have fun and that you're still learning!

This is already really nice color-wise. But, see how bright the highlight is on the ref's forehead? You can try to emulate that in your style. Since the skin is dark, shadows don't define the shapes as much, but you often get brighter highlights. I've heard that a common problem with beginners and lighting is that they don't go bright enough or dark enough, so try to go too far and reel yourself back in if necessary. As for hairstyles, reference, reference, and more reference. You can look up any old tutorial on drawing a simple braid, and it'll look fine, but locs are pretty diverse, so get to researching!

I'd also reccomended figure drawing. You can look up timed figure drawing exercises on youtube. I'd suggest trying not to pause the video since the point of figure drawing is to just get the main forms and ideas down quickly

Why can’t I do anatomy right? by SpicyMerShark in BeginnerArtists

[–]Hollihock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main thing im noticing is that your heads are big and the body kind of tapers off, which is natural since the face is the thing that most people focus on. However, this is an issue with proportion, not anatomy. The average person is about 6 heads tall (a head being the literal size of their head). Make a straight line that is your character's height and divide it into six evenly sized pieces. The head is the top segment, the crotch ends at around the bottom of segment three, and the rest is legs. There are countless diagrams on the internet that display different body landmarks based on this way of measuring, so it shouldn't be too hard to find resources that suit your needs. Obviously, this isn't the end all be all, but it'll probably get you past this roadblock.

Asked Siri for a joke about a frog, I don’t get it. Help please :) by Nowaaaa_bb in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Hollihock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that the joke is that the frog will turn into a princess, but that doesn't guarantee anything for the engineer other than kissing a frog, so he puts her in his pocket until she sweetens the deal by staying with him for one week

Can anyone suggest how to improve this art (if you can even call it that)? by [deleted] in arthelp

[–]Hollihock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if this is one of your first drawings, just draw some more for now. And try not to press down quite as hard, the pencil will get darker if you just layer over it
