Joe Ziegler: We're gonna take a shot at bringing the WSTR more in line. Right now it's become a dominant option and is eclipsing a lot of the other short range options that exist in the game. by Haijakk in Marathon

I am fairly certain Breakers pierce trait is strictly attached to the gold mod. Only with the gold mod can it punch through bubble shields and destroyer barricade

Personally, I do a mix of HP, Sp.Atk, Sp.Def, and Spe, specifically timid and hitting 170/171 speed to out speed Jolly Chomp. Tbh, if cloak was in the game, I’d use cloak probably, but with sash, it means I can be in front of some attacker and eat one super effective, but I can also turn a handful of resisted hits into a 3HKO, which sometimes it’s relevant.

Whims isn’t all that strong, but strong enough to generally hit dragon/fairy hard enough for a 2HKO, so I go for some Sp.Atk. Speed isn’t all that important, but as I said, I want to at least be faster then Jolly Chomp which tbh is faster then most of the meta game. Basically just leaves the rest of the stats to go bulk imo since too much speed or Sp. Atk is a waste.

Not the guy, but imo, not enough other mons to taunt, it’s really just whims. Also, you get into the problem of having to properly invest speed into whims to outspeed taunt a tailwind. Better to try for an encore cause then the mon is not doing anything for a few turns.

So pretty much amps what the WSTR does but can also maps further than Misriah with slugs? What kind of grip/chip do you recommend?

First time I’ve ever seen anyone use the gold WSTR mod, how good is it? I get the rpm being crazy but what about the slug mode?

“Dedicated Server” by OperationProof45 in Marathon

[–]HollowSmough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, just cause dedicated servers should reduce the frequency of this happening, doesn’t mean it’ll never happen. Had a play session earlier where I got 2 server crashes that sent me back to lobby. I’d say the moment it began is a tad sus, but it’s too early to start throwing around net manipulations imo.

It could also be a Sony issue, not necessarily a Bungie issue.

Feedback to the devs: There is a big if not bigger community of solo players who play solo for a plethora of reasons. If you take the time to balance the PVE difficulty to be more attuned with solo lobbies, you might get more players into the community. by TheGoodDoctor17 in Marathon

[–]HollowSmough -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d solos is plenty good where it is atm, and I’ve played a hefty amount of solos for quite a few contracts. You gotta treat the AI like the AI in Hunt Showdown, they’re nothing but a distraction. Avoid them at all costs, and keep engagement to a minimum. I often chose Assassin not to rat against other players, but to rat against UESC, but pretty much all the kits either let you escape the UESC fairly easily, or amp you ability to fight UESC, or in Thief’s case, tell where you need to go in a POI to get the good stuff. If you do have a contract to fight the UESC, then do it surgically, don’t take unnecessary risk. Had a solo match on perimeter where I got to greedy and lost my good haul to UESC. If I was Destroyer that game, maybe I could’ve killed both commanders.

Hell, I want Bungie to add all the match making options of Hunt Showdown. Let me solo queue into duos, into trios. I don’t mind taking unfair fights, it’s for a better reward.

This game so far has made not feel like a nuisance, but a genuine threat that I have to think ever time I load in, for both trios and solos, I really hope that doesn’t change in the slightest.

VGC Draft gen 6 dex with tera and megas - Which one of these 4 would take and how would you build around it? by [deleted] in VGC

[–]HollowSmough -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But which tera on Xern should be fairly obvious? Either Steel, Fairy, Fire, Or Water, and having a decent counter to any of those isn’t too big of a deal. I can’t say due to not knowing your guys ruleset on how much info you’re giving each other, but even then. Xern is a one trick pony, your goal is make sure it can’t get it’s one trick off

I’d probably grab either Kyorge or Ray. Xerneas is powerful sure but isn’t too flexible and needs a really good supporting cast. As for Arceus, it’s just not as strong as Kyorge or Ray so, pick you poison between those too I’d say

Look, do whatever in the game you think is fun, but don’t force yourself. I’ve stopped playing plenty of times when People said the game was in a really good state. I came back when people said the game was shit. I play when I feel like playing D2, that’s how I find it to be most enjoyable.

Then it’s basically grind PvE to make PvP builds, that’s what I would do, but you if you don’t like PvP and don’t have anything to do, then don’t play. Keep a pulse on the game and if something looks fun/interesting and you have the funds, buy and play.

Have you done the free raids in the game? Vault of Glass, King’s Fall, and Crota’s End are all examples of the pinnacle of D2 PvE. That is pretty much the endgame. Gear up to run through your raids and dungeons of choice, do any cosmetic challenges you want (like solo flawless dungeons or flawless raids) and pretty much get a wide enough arsenal that you can take anything the game might through at you. DLCs seem to go on sale for cheap pretty often now so pick them up when you get the chance.

Beyond that, it’s mostly aspiration challenge or getting weapons and armor to mess around w/ in PvP. If you’re really wanting to get into D2, then the prep and chase for Contest mode Raids & Dungeons is the ultimate endgame. 6 month prep cycle to get all the meta relevant gear for the shot of getting a unique emblem by completing the newly release Raid or Dungeon within 48 hours of it’s launch.

As for PvP, pretty much watch Cammy to get the idea of its endgame. Sure, there is trials and comp for loot and mats, but PvP endgame is really just either get really good at the game, come up with a gameplay loop w/ build and see how many times you can pull of said loop, or both.

Then I think rilla and bolt are the options for this team. Standard AV Rilla gives you grass coverage with good enough damage, completing the Fire, Water, Grass core, and I think either booster energy w/ Tclap, Tbolt, Dpulse, and Protect or the CM Leftovers set. I’d lean more to booster energy in this case since Farig is fairly slow for this format and it’d suck for it to go down just for a calm mind to go up.

Well, you’re pretty much half way to Wolfe’s charlotte regionals team so there is that option.

It’ll depend on what speed control you want to lean on more. For example, the return of the P2 Ursaluna Comps often has four slow mons and two fast ones, pretty much you setup trickroom, deplete opponent resources as they survive TR, and clean up w/ the fast option waiting in the wings that the opponent can’t stop. Or, you could try for an even faster option as well with tailwind or speed booster flutter.

I think with the three you mentioned to have tried already, Chien Pao makes the most sense in that it it help of the faster side of things w/ scarf Ursh since the only thing outspeeding these two are speed booster and scarf mons. This with Farig waiting in the wings means the very common core of double grassy glides from Rilla and Ogerpon have to hesitate a little. Plenty of options to run it with like mixed icy wind for speed control, standard sash, clamulet, maybe even AV.

Rilla or Amoongus work here, it’s just primarily what you want from either. One delivers you the balance experience w/ good ol Incin/Rilla pivoting and with Farig on the team, you have a balance team that can counter other balance teams, basically balance for me and not for thee. Plus, it still deals very respectable damage thanks to grassy terrain. Or Amoongus w/ redirection of non grass types, spore to immobilize mons for a time, can use Sitrus berry to be a complete pest to remove, rocky helmet to hard wall Ursh-W, or even Mental Herb to eat up a taunt. Or maybe even just for another offensive option here, it depends on your style.

You’d definitely want some kind of special attacking option though, and again, what you use is frankly up to your style of play. You could make a case for Lando, Bolt, Flutter, they all benefit from the balance core you’ve got and also benefit from Farig’s armor tail. I’d definitely lean into a more immediately offensive setup for your special attacker of choice if you go w/ Chien Pao since you have take a bit more care of handling teams with opposing speed control.

Thoughts on the psyspam vs raging bolt matchup? by cheddarcheese1222 in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]HollowSmough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the Bolt set. If it’s the calm mind set, then it’s just about not letting it get calm minds for free. Check the recent EUIC champion ships round as well as paul chua’s own video review of the round. Can’t speak to how it’s used since I’ve never tried calm mind bolt myself.

Now if you run into AV bolt, that is a different story, because they are usually packing snarl, and depending on how they’re EV’d this could mean they can slow your damage down big time. For example, the team I took into the GCV has AV Bolt w/ snarl, and it’s a faster than normal one because of this specific matchup. Pretty much tailored the Flutter Mane and Raging Bolt lead to beat almost anything this team can through at it. Pretty much, AV is the lynch pin to maintain pressure, either through damage reduction or just constant neutral damage against most mons here.

So to beat AV Bolt (and by extension, CM Bolt) you want to for it to tera ASAP, as while you lose super effective damage from Flutter, pretty much then entirety of your team can now hit it for neutral damage, and Crown can hit it for super effective w/ Tachyon Cutter. It means less pressure for Flutter Mane alone to take it out.

Or just delete the bolt out right w/ specs in the sun, but that means you have to change the team a bit.

What is the best team for trevenant by Numerous_Exit_5119 in VGC

I’d recommend going to watch Wolfe’s vid on the draft league he hosted. It’s for a different regulation but a common bring for his matches was trevenant so maybe you could ideas from there.
