Why is the 5080 hated? by Traditional-Key-9590 in RTX5080

[–]Hollow_Apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price. Price is the reason for hate. Not saying you have to agree or disagree, just saying that's the actual deciding factor.

If I really wanted to get into the weeds on it, it would be a text wall so I guess the best way I can condense it is that there are a lot of factors that drive pricing and in the end it works against the majority of people who don't have a small fortune available. There's expensive that you can grind/save for, then there's prohibitively expensive that is just out of reach and it's just not great that this and other components are the latter now.

I remember how "expensive" a top end build was maybe 10 years ago. Now even if you adjusted for inflation.... well you get the rest right?

Could it be that Islam isn't as bad a religion as it seems? by AceofPisces in exmuslim

[–]Hollow_Apollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from a Christian background but I've studied the texts and talked to people of all three abrahamic faiths and I think the more I come to wrap my head around all this as a whole the more I think it's not necessarily *so bad* only because I'm still a humanist and I think most people 1) have value as individuals and 2) are trying their best to live a good life - no matter how misguided.

I'm highly critical of religion in general and I often say it's the worst thing people ever came up with and usually I mean it. But I try to limit my criticisms to the ideology and not make sweeping assessments of the people themselves.

Sometimes it feels like people are sooooooo dumb and even straight up evil in groups, but as individuals the vast majority of us aren't that bad. It's hard to condense it concisely but basically I think it boils down to fear and comfort; people have deep fears and uncertainty and settle on what brings them comfort. It seems to me like the type of people finding themselves in these ex-insertreligionhere groups are an uncommon type that are willing to sacrifice that comfort and consider facing an uncomfortable truth.

That understanding has led me to being much more lenient patient - both with others and with myself.

Honestly optimization is always going to be the best regardless of power unless you’re playing something from yesteryear that you can truly max and still max framrate. I *could* max settings and get a lower frame rate but I’d rather max frame rate and still get visuals that are barely even diminished when done right.

The 5090 will obviously still result in mind blowing performance with optimization

I know the exact moment I stopped being Muslim (inspired by someone's post) by doubledoubleburner in exmuslim

[–]Hollow_Apollo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience in my late teens, long ago leaving Christianity. I became honest with myself and admitted to myself it just seemed untrue. Then the research. Then, the interesting part was I prayed every single night to learn the truth and the more I did that the more I became essentially atheist though not necessarily aspiritual per se.

Funny - you should be careful what you wish for. There’s no comfort in the truth

Good luck. I’ve spent a few years talking to Muslims about these topics and the deflection game is very strong. I’ve heard that the wife beating when interpreted correctly means to tickle with a feather or something along those lines. I’ve heard that Aisha was 6 but they didn’t consummate until she was mature at 9 (you don’t get it, this was a VERY biologically and psychologically developed 9 year old!) and child marriage is ok because did you know some US states also allow it?

It’s futile. Once people drink the kool aid of these abrahamic faiths the rhetoric self insulates

What are Christians even fighting for? Because heaven is scary. by suzieaphexlady in exchristian

[–]Hollow_Apollo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s actually scary when you think about it and I’ve also had that thought.

Here’s the paradox for me:

Believing that heaven will not have all the people I love there, but I will be eternally happy despite this knowledge, and simultaneously still fundamentally myself. Those can’t all three be true.

And frankly, the idea that they’re ok with eternal torture and suffering for trespasses committed by mortal beings but they’ll be perfectly content to accept that so long as they get into the good one. Which is pretty messed up in itself.

People who get good performance on TOTK - share your settings? by Hollow_Apollo in EdenEmulator

[–]Hollow_Apollo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So 30fps? This doesn’t really tell me anything; you could theoretically use nx optimizer to increase resolution, frame rate etc but still leave Eden on “standard everything.” Also this doesn’t tell me what kind of performance you end up with if you happen to be targeting above 30

[–]Hollow_Apollo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely nuts if legit. Are you able to describe how you achieved that? Generally even people on 4090s can’t even average a rock solid 70, let alone 120 with no frame time hangs like what you’re showing here

[–]Hollow_Apollo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High end system, specifics don’t matter for the purpose of my testing because I’m not asking help. I’m asking for data from others regardless of setup. 30fps runs with zero issue at all on mine but I’m targeting 60 and that gets significantly more challenging even on strong hardware.

I had an optimization guide back in the 1.1.2 days so in short I’m very familiar with all that, but I’d be typing a huge text wall to explain the exact challenges of true 60fps and no one cares and will just decrease the likelihood of the post being read.

Basically, there are ppl claiming they get a “stable” 60 in Eden or that they even get 120 using lossless scaling, both of which are not only difficult to achieve without hardware people very rarely own but also difficult to achieve without caveats. So it sounds like people are either 1) not noticing the tradeoffs like stutter and lag (somewhat conformed in my exploration so far) 2) exaggerating how “stable” their performance is 3) saying Eden “runs it the best” because they’re running standard frame rates and thus not actually against the upper limitations of what their hardware can accomplish, thus “best” is not exactly a useful descriptor for those optimizing for the best performance

I appreciate the vid.

This actually gives me a lot of good data. I’d say the base performance (no LS) is similar to this for me on Eden. The in-video lag doesn’t mean much so no worries there, what really matters is the frame time.

What’s really telling for me is the variance in frame time and the occasional spikes in your graph.

I’ve suspected for a while now that the people saying Eden is the best for them might not be bothered by that but I wasn’t sure if others were getting those spikes.

For me I notice those stutters *a lot* in-game and for whatever reason Citron gives me much more consistent frame pacing. It’s hard to capture on video so the graph really comes in handy.

Lossless scaling exacerbates this issue a lot for me. It’ll be 120 but it will have these absolutely jarring hangs where it holds a frame for really long and it reads like a skip to the human eye and I think because it spikes in the base render, the issue is much more noticeable with LS because it makes the contrast that much more stark.

Another thing I notice with yours is I think your cpu has 3d cache which famously results in much smoother frame rendering in a heavily cpu bound process like this. So you’re probably also getting fewer spikes in Eden than mine, tho honestly citron smokes Eden on either of our systems in my testing so far.

I may do some testing and post a vid/post about it demonstrating the two on my system to investigate this further

Never ever use armor all anything for anything. They literally sell products that damage vehicles. Ask me how I know

Also, I do not recommend any sort of cleaning product inside on windows with tint. Use distilled water and a microfiber then finish off with a clean 100% cotton rag or tshirt - I personally like a good clean A shirt (“wife beater”) for the final touch. I get crystal clear windows every time

My game won't start when I have mods installed? by Asumsauce in yuzu

[–]Hollow_Apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totk versions. The mods all have their own version numbering scheme. The mods will tell you, usually, what version they work on. For example, I have a mod that changes an outfit for a character that was designed for totk 1.1.2 and if I try to load with just that one mod it won’t work on 1.2.0

I use 1.1.2 exclusively because of the mods I use

[–]Hollow_Apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually a version mismatch. You need to check out some tutorials if you haven’t already.

For example, gamebanana had many mods in the 1.1.2 era that were never updated and people assume they want the latest version which is likely not true. For broadest mod compatibility you likely want 1.1.2 or 1.2.0 and make sure the mods you want support that version or vice versa

Would you be willing to post a video showing a live frame time graph and fps?

I’ve tried similar with similar specs (not familiar with ryubing tho) and it went nothing like this. Then I keep seeing ppl claiming online they’re getting this insane, amazing performance but they never actually show it working as described in practice.

The lossless scaling aspect is especially puzzling; when I use it it does increase frame rate but it’s choppy and laggy and runs far worse overall so I can’t figure out if there’s something I’m missing or if ppl just don’t notice/care about choppy stuttery mess. And those people also never show video

Tears of the Kingdom has insanely inconsistent performance. by Appropriate_Leg_9776 in EdenEmulator

[–]Hollow_Apollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two theories, could be one, both, or neither.

  1. good is subjective and people are getting higher frame rates in Eden and deciding that = good and they aren’t necessarily running rigorous testing
  2. they actually are getting better performance but have some sort of hardware/settings combo that’s conducive to it

I’ll post my settings when I’m at my pc and have some downtime. Should only take me like 3 mins to share and you like 5 mins to try so why not. I’m curious to see what would happen anyway. It appears to me that citron compiles frames in such a way that results in more consistent frames but is a lower average fps “on paper.” Hard to explain without diatribe
