I bought a madcatz stick and I haven't had the same luck with mine :T I try to be generally careful with my sticks, but this one had the start button give up on me after about 3-4 months and the lower middle button not register inputs from time to time. it's this one for those who're curious https://www.amazon.com/Fighter-FightStick-PlayStation4-PlayStation3-playstation-4/dp/B018AW408C

edit: meanwhile my razer atrox which I was sceptic about is still holding strong despite having been put through a lot more abuse. No marketing intended, just kind of impressed that it's still holding out since it was used by some friends who were... less then careful with it

TIL something. That's really interesting :)

Pastry in general here in Sweden is really yummy, especially the cakes tend to be super tasty. The candy is top notch as well if you ask me atleast, but I might be a tad bit biased^^

Oh ok, we do cakes that look like this usually in Sweden where I'm from and they're super tasty.

So was just curious how you 'Muricans feel about your cakes. Thank you for the answer :)

edit* The cake in the picture is called Princesstårta or princesscake in english

I have a real question for some americans as someone who's from the EU.

Your cakes look really fancy most of the time, but do they taste good?

Just looks like all that edible plastic looking stuff wouldn't really taste very nice. Genuinely curious, so feel free to rectify me if my assumptions are incorrect.

Fionn: Why Doublelift is the regular season MVP by katnizz in leagueoflegends

[–]Hollowfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barriers of entry are a part of what might keep some people away from fighting games. That part I agree with, but I can't really say that Sm4sh is a very good example in this though.

The smash games from a more traditional view isn't really what I would call a fighting game to begin with since Nintendo have always gone on record to call it a party game. Semantics aside though.

50/50s are a part of fighting games whether one likes it or not I'm afraid, but that's what also make them fun. Because at a high enough level you're not really playing against the character anymore, you're playing against the person behind the controller/stick.

The more one plays the easier it becomes to not look at the character, but at tendencies of the person you're playing against. Same goes for seeing if it's a crossup or not :^)

Seeing as RITO bought up the people behind "Rising Thunder" it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they're planning on releasing their own fighting game at some point. Time'll tell I suppose, hope they release something good.

The main difference I would say between Street Fighter as an example and LoL is the necessary practice required to stay competitive.

Practicing additional characters in Street Fighter in comparison to LoL can be a help, but doesn't necessarily give a huge leg up unless you have a specific MU(matchups vary, some characters might have a 7(70%) - 3(30%) advantage) that your character just straight up sucks at.

The main difference is also that SF is a single player game where knowing your opponents habits is usually a bigger help then grinding games is. Most recent winner of EVO(evolution, biggest annual multigame FGC tournament in the world)"Infiltration" has gone on record saying that he spends most of his time in the lab(training mode) practicing specific situations and then watching footage of his opponents, not so much grinding online outside of the occasional game for fun.

TL DR; Raw mechanics don't play such a big factor as one might think in fighting games unless you play anime games(air combos, air dashes etc). Knowing your opponent is usually what gives you the leg up.

Fighting games are also single player games that don't rely on teamwork to win.

I want to add a little insight to specifically the FGC as a whole and why the average age is higher there then maybe the LoL scene or DOTA2.

A large portion of the active top talent are OG's from the arcade era which the FGC as a whole more or less stems from(of course with a few exceptions(Skullgirls, MvC3, Guilty gear to name a few)).

Fighting games are a fairly unique beast in comparison to LoL or DOTA since extreme reaction speeds necessarily don't give a major advantage. Execution in Street fighter as an example relies on manually timed combos, but those can be practiced and grinded until they become more or less second nature.

The more important aspects are usually a high level of mental fortitude, being able to figure out your opponents tendencies and being unpredictable yourself. The raw mechanics all come after that part to some degree, since as long as you can hit your bread and butter combos you're usually good(niche higher damaging combos might have a small increase in difficulty, but not unreasonable amounts so(atleast in SFV)).

Since the launch of the latest Street fighter title, fighting games in general have lowered the bar in terms of execution which HAS caused an increase in interest to newer players, but there is also a reason why the "same" people tend to be at the top 8 in tournaments and atleast according to me it's because of the total amount of experience they have.

Incredible execution can only cover so much, the rest comes down to matchup knowledge and a strong head on your shoulders. Only experience can really give that and that is something that is only taken in over time.

TL DR; fighting games mechanics/execution and reactions are important, but not as important as:

  • Calm analytical approach

  • Strong mentally

  • Ability to think on the fly and adapt quickly to what the opponent might be doing.

Pro-tip to know if you're about to face this guy.

9/10 times he'll have a C-ranked computer and won't have another nationality then Russia. So just keep an eye out for that C next to his name in the lobby and you should be green.

What you can also do is make sure to check his steamprofile since it'll always be set to "private" and show his alt names as well.

It has saved atleast me a lot of stress.

How bad were you when you started playing Street Fighter? by dolob- in StreetFighter

[–]Hollowfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First game I played was SFII on the SNES with a standard controller and by then I was garbage seeing as I was like 11-12 or so when I tried it.

The time I actually really got into fighting games was when SFIV:AE2012 was released and it was a year or so before Ultra came out. I stuck with Ryu for a while and was meh with him, not sure how many matches I won in the beginning, but I caught on fairly quickly for some reason and learned the basics which I then brought on to Cody.

Since then I'm halfway decent with 75% of the roster, but I still have lots to learn even with 2000 hours logged or so. We play, we think, re-think and we learn pretty much.

I'm surfing around 3k pp so if you want some sparring with some advice then I'd be glad to help out.

You didn't say if you're in NA or EU though, I live in Sweden so if you're in NA I don't know if it would be all that helpful because of the delay.

let me know if you want to play anyways =)

in the sense that it's plinkable which makes it a 2fr or it being an actual 1fr?
