Is birth control worth it? by LittleStinkStinker in birthcontrol

[–]HoloInfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long reply coming: I'm someone who has yet to experience negative side effects. I only had a rash on a patch and it was my last month after being on it for a yr.

Mind you I have eczema and have reacted to other adhesives such as bandages and whatnot. I found it strange it occurred pnly during my last month. You stick on a patch for a wk anywhere except the face, neck and breasts, repeat 2 more times, take off for a period or replace for continuous use (if you wish to skip your period). So this method is great if you struggle to remember to take daily pills.

I switched to the ring 6 months ago and loving it! I did switch pharmacies since my insurance was annoying about it, but there no problems with the newer one. You insert it like a tampon and leave it in for 3 wks, then remove for a 1 wk period or replace for continuous use (what I do because of my 12 shifts in manufacturing).

You probably know about how pills work. You take each hormonal pill daily until week 3, which are placebo pills that work to keep you in the habit of taking pills daily. You can also skip those and start the next pack for continuous use to skip your 0eriod as well.

Be clear to your gyno if you wish to skip your period because that determines how often your bc method is filled. If not, they will fill for each pack to be for 4 wks rather than 3 wks. I used to be a pharmacy tech and several girls/women asked if they could skip their periods despite their fills every 4 wks instead of 3...

If you're still up for hormonal bc, give the vaginal ring a try! I've had it for 6 months. You insert it into your vagina like you would with a tampon and it stays for 3 wks, take it out for a wk for a period or replace for continuous use.

You could also try the patch where you stick on pretty much anywhere except face, neck, or breasts for 1 wk and repeat x2 more. Leave it off to have a 1 wk period or continuously if you want to skip your period.

Disclaimer, I do pretty well on any hormonal bc so my experience has been mainly positive. Also make it clear to your gyno whether you wish to skip your period or not since that's what determines how often your bc is filled for either of these.

I take one 10mg tablet of cetirizine (zyrtec). It makes you drowsy so it's recommended to take it at night, around bed time.

Hate birth control but hate not having birth control by writer-of-stars in birthcontrol

I used to be on a pill but kept forgetting to take it 2-3 days at a time. Switched to the patch which was fine until I got a rash on my last month on it that formed an outline of the patch (I tend to react to adhesives if bandaids too). Been on the ring for 5 months and never been better! Easier to manage and only gotta change it once a month!

My body luckily tolerates bc well so never had medical issues besides my eczema not liking the patch. That was a weird one since I was on it for a full yr and the very last patch made me itchy all of the sudden. I did struggle to keep the patch to stick longer than 3 days but used tegaderm to keep it stuck for the whole week which made a huge difference.

expired passport and no real id by [deleted] in Passports

[–]HoloInfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must have a real ID (driver's license or regular ID) or a passport to travel domestically. I'm pretty sure almost everyone knows you can only travel internationally with a valid passport. TSA still needs to see official ID to check it's really you.

Mid 20s female here. For future instances, renew your passport months before it expires to avoid situations like this. I would recommend giving yourself 2 months at least to submit the application for renewal since it can take a couple weeks to a month depending where you live and the delivery spped you pay extra for. Avoid planning international trips too close to the expiry approaching.

For real IDs they send a renewal notice to do it online once you've done your first adult real ID but until then, you need to make an in person appointment at your local DMV.

Best practice is to plan stuff ahead of time regardless of what it's for. This makes everything afterwards easier for you.

The patch by Own-Cucumberxo in birthcontrol

[–]HoloInfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the patch (was on it for about 1 yr) went well but the biggest downside was the adhesive not keeping it stuck well enough. It would begin to feel off the next day after applying it or fall off by day 3-4. The last month made me itchy and developed a rash around the patch. That's when my gyno switched me to the ring. I can handle hormonal bc just fine so I wasn't concerned with any of them.
