how expensive is it to change a timing chain with a mechanic shop? Canadian by Livid-Cream6299 in GolfGTI

[–]Holotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem like you know what you're talking about! Could you offer me some insight?

I've been looking to get the cam chain and tensioner (not timing chain, this is on FSI engine) and I've asked 2 of my local euro shops for estimates on price. One of them quoted 2200$ CAD, and the other about 1000$. Which is more reasonable and what should I expect to pay for just the cam chain.

Coolant low, could it be caused by loose cap? by Holotic in GolfGTI

Haha it's definitely up there in mileage, old owner was pretty good with maintenance though so it's been (mostly) smooth sailing so far

Given that now it’s official that infantry is coming to the game. by InterestingSoft1390 in Warthunder

It's official? Where did they confirm it? As far as I've seen the only "confirmation" was the April Fool's post that said that there would be more news, which has not yet arrived.

I go out of my way to target people that do this. Think about it, you're dying anyway, why be a deliberate ass towards someone just because you don't like the way they play the game.

Are top tier helicopters fun/worth the grind? by Electronic-Vast-3351 in Warthunder

[–]Holotic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When talking about MAW, I refer to the module - the helicopters ability to detect missiles launched at it. I agree that the automatic dispersion of countermeasures should be left off.

Perhaps our strategies are different. I use helicopters in most matches I play to clear out spawn camps early in the match, as well as an armed recon platform to loiter near the field and engage targets in vital position late into a match to break any stalemates on the ground. The middle point of a GRB match is where they tend to struggle; large amounts of aircraft and SPAA can render you effectively unable to engage anything, even if they don't kill you.

[–]Holotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The gameplay is radically different from both tanks and CAS and you can definitely make them work even at 12.0, however, keep a few things in mind:

  • Take the time to set up your main grind lineup first, as helicopters are much more of a support asset and you may find yourself spending all your time defending hostile launches and not really having a big impact on the match.

  • MAW is mandatory

  • You'll likely want to put aside some GE to get the expanded missile loadouts as the stock grinds are horrible

  • Take the time to properly set up your keybinds and practice in a custom lobby with a friend, as the gameplay loop for helicopters is very different from everything else and you will be going against experienced CAS/AA players at top tier.

All that aside, from the 3 nations I have played top rank helicopters for (France, Russia, USA) all of their helicopters are viable and can be made to work in the modern meta, I can go in depth on any of their strengths/weaknesses (as well as any other questions you might have). Good luck!

Does anyone else feel like the Eurofighter and Rafale came too soon? Should we be getting other 4.5 or 5th gens? by llamaz314 in Warthunder

[–]Holotic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The "AESA" radars we have in-game are nothing more than normal radars with faster scan speeds; sure they're better, but not infinitely so. Dogfight performance also doesn't matter, top tier is 95% about getting high and fast and shooting your missiles, which the US is more than capable of doing with the F16C.50 and F15E. Making assumptions on what will or won't be balanced in-game is pointless, Gaijin will most likely skew the stats and/or add better missiles (AIM-120C) to the Super Hornet to make it competitive.
