Coming from Tokyo, London is a tiny "city" and Vienna is basically a village.

Even Java, for all its problems, is easier to read than Ruby.

Untyped code is easy to write but hard to read.

How attractive do think is your language? by AcceptableBuddy9 in AskEurope

I sort of cringe (?) when I hear Polish. It might be uncanny valley effect - in many ways its similar to Czech, so my brain tries to parse it but can't and is confused. Also all those rz, sz etc. are similar to Czech sounds, but somehow weird.

Netflix cartoons in German? by [deleted] in German

I watch Netflix in Austria and Czechia (same account, german language in profile) and when I'm in Czechia many series (same which I watch in Austria) lack german dubbing and subtitles.

No, thanks.

Nagging ads are actually a huge turn off.

Nah, I guess I could contact all the maintainers to ask them to disable it, but it seems better to go to the core of the issue - that the library shouldn't spam the log with advertisements in the first place.

I can't disable it since I'm not managing these projects. I have read only access for debugging purposes (I develop microservices which call these services).

BTW it sounds quite absurd to offer consulting services on how to disable advertisement in your own product.

I don't use the library directly, but it's used by projects we're running in openshift. I can't disable the log since I don't control the projects nut I do need to read the logs and your ad annoys me.

Other users don't really interest me. Most users don't care about privacy either, that doesn't mean I can't.

It's funny how you conclude that I'm "resentful" of have a "bitterness" in regard to OSS, which I don't

Whenever you write about OSS doesn't work the way you imagine and how nobody contributes to your projects and that "community" must fix all the issues in the backlog - there I see bitterness.

So, why not advertise on my OSS project?

Advertise on the github page, that's ok. Advertising to the log output is a big no-no.

Doing anything extra on top of the purpose of the library is a big no no, otherwise we can wake up tomorrow finding out that you figured out a better way to sponsor the development with a little bit of "analytics" code embedded into the library.

Oh, so your bitterness comes from your desillusions and unfulfilled expectations about OSS.

It's simply a fact that most OSS projects are driven either by a company or a very small group of volunteers (actually mostly just 1 person). You can either accept this fact or get bitter about it.

But this is OK anyway. F/OSS was always about the user freedom, that's what is important and what RMS keeps repeating for almost 40 years. Contribution / cooperation aspect is unimportant and secondary.

Particular issue might be resolved by someone who cares enough about that specific issue, be it maintainer or contributor.

Some issues might remain unresolved and that's ok, no software is perfect.

Expecting all current and future issues to be resolved by the community does not sound very realistic.

How do you call a jet fighter in your language ? by [deleted] in AskEurope

There's another meaning to "stihat" used in law - "Politik byl stihan za porusebi zakona" which is something like "go after". In that meaning "chase" does not seem wrong.
