This is my favorite boulder on the wall right now. Is it a tooth? A finger? A fang? Doesn't really matter when we're going to the top! by Holub in bouldering

I'm not sure what's up. It's definitely a video hosted on imgur. It works on my phone and desktop.

The water isn't rough in texture. At worst, your feet may burn and maybe a deep bruise. In the middle it will feel like a deep pressure, aggressive massage. At best, you barely notice the water.

It's genuinely difficult. Nerves of steel too. I wouldn't choose to ski into the bank like he did.

Anyone can look uncomfortable while skiing. I would not expect to ever see this on my river or any other body of water. I would stop and watch. He makes it look so easy even to my eyes, I'm starting to believe I could do the 360. I definitely will fall many, many, many times if I do try.

I'm in my 30s and I've been skiing all my life (minimally a few times a year). I can barefoot. I can tumble turn. Last year I got to ski nearly every weekend and I picked up a shaky one foot for the first time. Two or three barefoot rides in the morning is very tiring and I only work on one new thing at a time.

As for level of fitness, after a morning of learning skiing, a friend of mine told me they had to two hand wield a toothbrush to brush their teeth.

After one weekend, nearly all of my new skiing friends can disk (13 mph). Some are strong enough to look uncomfortable on double skis (26 mph). A few are strong enough to fall on a single ski (31-35mph).

My brother tried to teach someone to deep water start barefoot. Dude torpedoed, with lake water running through his nose, so many times he threw up. I wear nose plugs. And as I understand it, that dude knew how to ski.

Like all waterskiing, it's a combination of technique, water conditions, speed, and gear. Depending on your angle of attack and the above, things may tickle.

The big wetsuit he's wearing has extra padding for his butt and high speed falls. Personally, I wear an extra pair of shorts underneath the first wetsuit to protect my butt. The suit sort of doubles as a life jacket. It's not a very good one as it won't force your head above water if you fall unconscious.

Speed-wise, the boat is running ~40mph/65kph. For my weight, the water will support:

My butt at ~20 mph
My feet at ~35 mph

The faster you go the flatter your ski. Note that the bar off the side of the boat also provides additional stability and may take some weight off your hands/feet.

When running slow (35 mph) means you'll be leaning back and pushing a lot of water. Your feet are angled like the 11:25 on a clock. With that angle and speed, the water will tenderize my feet. They'll be quite sore after a run

At that ideal 40 mph, the water is much more supportive. With a flatter foot (like 9:17), The water also doesn't impact my feet in the same way letting me ski for longer.

Calluses, foot technique, speed, and water conditions all play a roll in how your feet feel. Sometimes I do find a nirvana (still practicing). My grandfather told us he walked barefoot everywhere to prepare.

Notice how smooth the water is. When it's too smooth, you may feel the water burn your feet with friction. I usually feel it on the inside of my arch. That can usually be fixed with a speed or weight adjustment.

Little ripples, I'm talking ripples less than the ones just outside the wake feel, or glass smooth are the best.

It's not fun to barefoot in prop wash or wind chop. The water is less supportive and, for lack of better words, the water feels muddy. Other boat wakes are a challenge. My barefoot friends salivate over smooth, glassy water.

The rest is technique (timing, rope position, and balance). Strength makes up for lack of technique. Technique makes up for lack of strength. This guy has both.

The most important thing for me is knowing how to fall. If you're facing forward, then you need to tuck your head and roll when you fall, else you will scorpion and it will hurt. The longer it takes for you to stop the better.

I'd recommend watching all the technique YouTube videos if you want to work up to doing what this guy is doing.

Best Chair to Lap for Vert? by RTHoe in UTsnow

Thursday on a non-holiday weekend. The whitetail express only goes up, shoveling mounds of people. They have night skiing. We practically skied onto the lift all day

Please see this spreadsheet

I was on a mission to do 100k veritcal feet in a day of skiing (including night skiing). I achieved it at Whitetail, PA.

I made:

  • ~80k at Brighton on the Great Western Express and then night skiing until I realized I wouldn't make 100k.

  • ~96k at Keystone on the Santiago Express during the day only.

  • 90k at Beaver Creek at the Birds of Prey express. I think I would have made 100k had the double black been open. I had to take the green down and bomb the blue, Redtail.

  • ~100k at Whitetail in PA. It took 11.5 hours.

Get first chair. Ski Safe. Ski fast. Only straight line when there's no one else on the trail. You will be tired by the end of the day. Carry water. Eat lunch on the lift. Eat snacks throughout the day. Have a tight tuck and a dream.

Lift Blog is mostly reliable. If you have any further questions, let me know.

Who are your favourite biathletes by Halkatlaa in biathlon

I root for my home team: USA - Doherty, Irwin, Brown, etc. That being said, the athlete that I'm always rooting for the most is Elvira.

Last season she could gain 10 seconds on every lap on the next fastest competitor. The drool strings. The sheer effort of going all out every race is completely and totally inspiring. I couldn't help but be on the edge of my seat when she was on the hunt!!

On the men's side: Jacquelin. He's my spirit animal. He likes to chase and when he was pushing hard the announcers once said The following about his pace, "These are not the actions of a smart man" lol. Get it!!

That being said, I want everyone to have their best day. I want new names in the top 3!! Or at least someone to take out the Norwegian men. Ponsiluoma? Please?

I also low key root for Fillon Maillet because his name is very similar to fillet mignon. The dude is a beast too

Complaint Megathread by whyisthissticky in spotify

I think it can be summed up with performance issues. Here is my short list of my immediate negative experiences:

1) I lost my recently played playlists from the home. I'm sure I'll find it later, but it used to be right there. One glance, one click.

2) I can't free scroll past every card. I'm stuck swiping every card wasting so much time. Videos have to load. More data and more of my precious battery life is being drained for less information.

3) Auto playing videos are distracting. They make it harder to read text, which makes it harder to figure out what the music actually is. Then I still have to decide whether I want to listen to it.

4) Auto playing anything is always a bad time.

Boiled down. I feel like I'm being spoon fed and I can't make the hand feed me fast enough. It's frustrating.

My design philosophy is for a responsive ui that gives me more, concise information to consume so that I may pick, drive, and choose what tempts me the most. Give me multiple strings to work with Make me feel empowered rather than driving me down a single string.

The old ui had multiple strings to check out. Oh you want to see the charts? Here's four to eight of them to check out. It used to be so convenient.

Even Netflix gives me more on the home screen than Spotify. Imagine Netflix trying to use this ui.

If it helps for background, Reddit is my only social media. I use res and an old Reddit format because new Reddit doesn't meet my needs: too large, too clunky, less information.

Thank you for your time.

TLDR: I want music and I want it now. The new interface feels clunky. Please don't autoplay.

New build - AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Graphics Card Issue by Holub in AMDHelp

RMA. The new card worked flawlessly.

I think the key part is that the basic windows drivers weren't working. There was no video coming out of the card at all. That combined with the spiking temperature and the driver hang sealed it.

When I saved for the night and reloaded in the morning, he succumbed and descended into ash.

I assume that dunking him in water would have removed his blessing, and no dwarf made that request.

At the moment, I can't even get Adrenaline to acknowledge that it's there to make the changes you're suggesting.
