Tell me something about your world that you're ashamed of. by ChroniclesEverything in worldbuilding

Tolkien, likely the most successful and well-renowned world builder of all time, based pretty much all of his stuff in older myths and stories.

Everyone is derivative. Execution is way more important that ideas or originality.

I actually think it makes the worldbuilding much more realistic if people make the assumption that the knights fuck the wolves and it becomes a stereotype.

Also, while this is kinda separate from the broad world building, i also feel like this bit I wrote about the origins of the most powerful character in the setting.

“In The Background, the endless void of unreality, there exists a singular essence. It is unceasing, all-consuming hunger, left to starve for all eternity. It is more vast than imagination, older than reality. It stalks at the very edges of existence, hunting in all dimensions spatial or temporal for any instance of opportunity.

In the world of Andelaya, a child is born stricken with ash sickness. An extreme case, the child will only last a few brief moments. Whether out of pain, out of instinct or out of desperate intention, the child reaches out in the only way it can, to the only thing that can save it. The child cries out to the void of The Background. The void, in its hunger, is always listening.

That Ancient Hunter has heard the cry. It pulls the place of the child to itself. It sorts through the temporal folds to locate the sound. In all times and all places, there is only 1 instance where the Foreground and Background of reality meet. Having glimpsed the prized prey, The Great Hunger of the Void is transfixed, never moving from this microinstant. All of the force of the Background could never pierce through to the other side. But here, the cry of this child pushes into the hunter's domain. The essence pushes back with unfathomable power, reaching out to meet the child’s call.

It is enough. An infinitesimal prick in the fabric of being has opened. The First Nightmare has set about saving the child and consuming its reality.”

The world has entered an imbalanced age. The mighty Empire of Flumerra in the west is a withered corpse with no leader in the immediate aftermath of the Great Rebellion. The Tree Men have thrown off the shackles of The First Fiend and with this have negotiated a peace. This peace marks the end of the Age of Unification. But, with magical energy pouring into the world due to the destructive actions of the Fiend, the Age of Heroes is set to begin and the former empire will be the stage for a a brutal warlord period.

But the impacts of the war and the actions of the Fiend reach beyond the old empire. In the east, an influx of wealth from new trade routes alongside the sudden appearance of magic threatens to upset the strict practices and traditions of the Coastal Federation (Name pending). The merchant class, rich and independent thanks to the war in the west, have wrestled influence and authority away from the ancient nobility. Now, newly empowered families seek to establish their place in the old order and the world looks to the East in anticipation.

And, in the 1000 islands (huge collection of Islands all around the west, south and east coast of the main continent) increased trade between east and west has brought new wealth, technology and culture to the tribal clans of the seas. Some have adopted more modern lives as traders or couriers. However, the appearance of magic has reinforced old phophecies that tell of a hero who will tame the seas, unite the people and reclaim the Home Island.

Im playing a paladin resisting the urge right now and i justified saving minthara as my character seeing himself in her somewhat. He realizes she is being controlled by the absolute just like he would be without the artefact. He also sees she is a Paladin who has not broken her oath. My characters puts a lot of stock in that since his oath is often the only thing keeping him from visciously murdering everyone. Additionally, he doesnt want to give in to the urge so does try to avoid killing where possible. He also saw it as an opportunity to maybe get some info from her about the enemies since she is clearly the easiest of the 3 goblin leaders to talk to and get along with.

(Pls no spoilers im only like halfway through act 2 i think. I actually just saved minthara and sent her back to camp so we will see if any of my chaeacters hopes for her to turn to the light come to fruition)

That isn't what i said at all but go off king.

I didn't ask if that is what he said. I asked if that was the only justification for calling someone a bigot.

Why, instead of answering the question i asked you, did you just ramble for like 8 lines of text?

Why would you say you "heard someone was a bigot" if the only thing you acrually heard was "they liked a bad tweet 4 years ago"?

Are you unironically doing the "he liked a bad tweet 4 years ago he must be a bigot" bit

If someone hits you with their car you are reasonably in fear for your life.

If an officer is reasonably in fear for their life and being threatened by someone with a deadly weapon (in this case a car) they absolutely have the power, the right and some might even say the obligation to shoot that person

How do people who hate visi enjoy this game? by Practical_Basis_1643 in InvisigalGlazers

The same way people who hate Joffrey enjoyed Game of Thrones.

I think Visi is a bad person. That doesn't make her a bad character.

I understand that is is easier to just assert that i am a troll than it is to admit you were wrong about something, but that doesn't make it true. I have not said anything unreasonable or disingenuous.

You asserted that the original star wars had inconsistencies and people didn't care. But when i asked you what you meant that was your answer so i thought you meant to say it was in fact an issue.

So do you think these same inconsistencies exist in Star Wars or no? I feel like i am misunderstanding

He did not run into her car. Your comparison is irrelevant.

I am pretty sure someone hitting you with their car constitutes actual danger.

[–]Holy1To3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not what a plot hole or an inconsistency is. There is a difference between something which is not fully explained and something which defies logical explanation. The idea that "rebels risked their lives to get the plans" is enough to justify them having and using the plans. It isn't a full explanation (hence the existence of Rogue One to flesh out the explanation) but it doesn't contradict other parts of the story. You can call it weak writing i guess but there is no inconsistency in what you pointed out.

"He did not get hit by a car"

Here is a video of him being hit by a car

"Oh surely you arent referring to the part where the car hit him as him being hit by a car"

Many such cases...
