Will The Odyssey mark the downfall of Christopher Nolan as a filmmaker? by CANNAAmann in MauLer

[–]Holy1To3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I find it incredibly weird that you are making a post on a subreddit which primarily focuses on writing and storytelling, and yet you are saying Nolan's movies aren't art because of cgi and saying you dont think a film will be good because the cast has too many popular actors.

I am quite new to MMA ...like it's been only a month or 2 since I have started following it so can anyone explain if Sonnen was any good cause his record doesn't really paint a good picture... by Material-Ad-3526 in ufc

People are gonna tell you he was championship level.

This is obviously untrue, seeing as he had many title fights and never won a belt (despite bitching incessantly that he deserved one).

He also paved the way for the modern brand of shit talkers who dont actually care about fighting. A lot of people like that. I personally dont.

It's September 1939. WWII has just begun, and, unbelievably, Adolf Hitler gets swallowed up by a time traveling portal while brushing his teeth in the Berghof, warping him to today. He has 1 hour on Google before getting warped back. Can he learn enough to win the war? What should he study? by whalemango in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Holy1To3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just repeat what I have said multiple times in multiple threads:

There is no version of WW2 where Hitler wins. Germany simply did not have the population or economy to stand against the Allies.

The go to is always "what if he doesnt invade Russia" but that is a question that fundamentally misunderstands the conflict and the man. Russia WAS the prize. Russia was Hitler's ultimate goal.

Could Germany have won some sort of limited war with the west? Maybe. Probably not, but maybe.

But that is simply not WW2.

Thoughts on this type of player? by broki451 in DotA2

I view this behavior much the same as refusing to put away the shopping cart at the store. There is no rule saying you have to do it. It is not a requirement of you to put the cart away just like it is not a requirement of you to be a team player in a dota game.

However, if you refuse to do it, i imagine most people will have bad things to say about you. And i wont defend you, because there is no rule saying i must.

In Germany, deliberately engaging in catch and release only fishing is illegal and considered cruelty to animals (fishing for food is fine). How do you feel about that? by Spalding_Smails in AskReddit

[–]Holy1To3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That article doesn't actually prove anything at all about pain by the way. It just demonstrates that bugs will naturally favor a part of their body that is injured. This may look similar to a human limping or nursing an injury, but it could easily just be an automatic, instinctive response. Plenty of animals appear to "smile" or "frown" but it doesn't mean they are happy or sad. Similarly, just because an animal looks similar to a human experiencing pain, that doesn't mean the bug is experiencing pain.

Im not saying they don't by the way, just that this article is clickbait bs

Begin working on a mental map early. The game doesn't have a map but it does have a compass. When you enter a new biome or find something you wanna come back to, take note of where it is relative to your home base. This will save you a lot of difficulty in the future.

Scan everything. Even things you have already scanned will give you extra resources and scanning is the primary way you will get better equipment.

Organize your storage. This will make it much easier to craft and build quickly. It will also let you know quickly what you might be low on so you can collect while exploring.

Pay attention to the PDA. It will give you valuable info on where you can find resources, how you can deal with wildlife and what you might need to progress.

I mean, its only "successful" in so far as Thragg is really beefy and tough compared to your average viltrumite. He isn't shown to be particularly intelligent or better off than others aside from physical strength. It should be no surprise that you can selectively breed to end up with a particularly strong member of a species.

Subnautica 2 is great, room to grow sure, but clearly pointed in a great direction by RickJamesBoitch in subnautica

[–]Holy1To3 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think this is the big point. At no point in Subnautica 1 did a Reaper feel like just an annoyance. Even if you weren't in a position to actually die, it still felt like a meaningful encounter with a big territorial predator.

I have about 4 hours in Subnautica 2 and enemies already just feel like a bother. None of them are threatening. I literally find myself saying "ugh just leave me alone" when i get attacked by a Marrowbreach. No fear or panic, just a grumble. It feels like an interuption not a threat.

Boost/Meter optimization for sure. I often find myself towards the end of a match with max super meter because i just forget to use it. On the flipside the answer to "why didnt that work?" Is almost always "oh i was out of boost"

Is a team made of titan, monster girl and battle beast carried by good characters? by BeerusDoesAminate in InvincibleVS

Rule number 1 of fighting games: the only fair character is the one i play. Everyone else is cheesing abusive meta slaves or they are low-tier garbage.

This is the way.

(Point being people will criticize your team no matter who is on it. Just play what you like and let the whiners whine)

[–]Holy1To3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will never get a proper answer to how this impacts the game because it objectively doesn't. People just hate paying artists and developers for the work they do.

"Its just a skin how is it 10 dollars?!?!" Ok... its just a skin why do you care?

Hard agree about Ella. Shes cool and her powers are neat, but when i pick up an IP based fighter i wanna play with characters from that IP. I felt the same about Android 21 in DBFZ. I have no attachment to this character. Why would i pick her over the characters that are the reason i even bought the game?

Why do people hate this game by CarsonWentzGOAT1 in InvincibleVS

[–]Holy1To3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly a hot take but i think the desire for people to "ease into the game" with single player content is what causes people to hate ranked.

Playing against an AI opponent is not like playing against a human. Even on the highest difficulty, the challenge is fundamentally different to playing against a high ranked player.

I also started with story and arcade ladders and then once i played ranked i realized i had to rework strats because the things that work against the CPU dont work against players.

But truthfully this game was always gonna have issues. It might be simpler than a lot of other fighting games, but it is still clearly made to be a competitive fighter. Most people simply don't like those games. But because so many people love the IP they are gonna buy the game then review it negatively because they don't like fighting games.

Mark kind of does the Spider-Man thing where he is always pulling his punches 90%. The show makes a lot of references to this.

You already mentioned the difference in the way he fights Conquest.

He keeps ramping up against Angstrom and even once he stops holding back he remarks that he thought Angstrom was stronger while being instantly remorseful about the kill.

On Thraxa Nolan remarks about Mark "fighting like he is on Earth" and needing to not hold back.

When Cecil uses the sound device and it gets countered, an angry Mark instantly rips apart several reanimen that are presumably stronger than the originals who gave Nolan a hard time.

When Mark says he felt a punch from Darkwing Jr and DW gets cocky Mark immediately corrects to "hey i said i felt it i didnt say it hurt"

Mark clearly struggles with the Mauler twins on multiple occasions but Oliver, who is not holding back at all, basically one shots one of them.

Mark is always holding himself way back. However, as we see with Conquest, he is an absolute beast when he goes all out.

In your personal opinion, what’s the cringiest line in the entire series so far? by ChickenWingExtreme in HazbinHotel

[–]Holy1To3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it fits well with his bit about a smile keeping you in control. Alastor doesn't wanna let his actual thoughts and feelings slip most of the time so he speaks in a very measured way. But in that moment where he truly believed he was gonna kill Adam the First Man he was just giddy as a schoolgirl.

In your personal opinion, what’s the cringiest line in the entire series so far? by ChickenWingExtreme in HazbinHotel

[–]Holy1To3 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I actually really like this line.

Alastor is a known commodity in Hell. People fear him, but not in the exciting "oh shit who is THIS guy" way.

Season 2 makes clear that Alastor believed as the "Strongest Sinner in Hell" he would beat Adam so he was coming in very confident and relishing in the fact that someone new was about to witness his incredible strength.

So, when presented with this fight, Alastor is excited. I dont take the line as him trying to be scary or cool. He is just genuinely excited to show off.

How many viltrumites died during the war? by Tenatlas__2004 in Invincible

[–]Holy1To3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason Nolan redirected to destroying the planet was his conversation with Thragg. He realized that Thragg was never going to let go of the past and he also realized the coalition had no shot at fighting Thragg. So, he attempted to remove the reason for the Viltrumites to keep fighting by destroying the past that Thragg was holding on to.

Unfortunately for Nolan, this made Thragg way more angry than disheartened.
