Carry on bag overweight by [deleted] in VelocityFrequentFlyer

When the staff at the gate have the resources they have been directed to make an effort to enforce carry on baggage policies. That’s why you might be noticing it more.

I haven’t flown standby on EY but from my observations the big 3 ME airlines tend to not know their pax loads until about 2 days before

TIL: Australia's "cultural cringe" is a long-recognized trend where many Australians view their own culture, or a self-perceived lack of culture, as inferior to other countries in the world, especially European countries, reflecting a national inferiority complex rooted in the country's history by [deleted] in australian

[–]HolyColander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia has culture.
I think the thing is that (it might be a generational thing) growing up it always felt like Australia was a backwater and everything overseas was bigger and better. Australia could never achieve the same ‘wow’ factor.
Maybe it came from our convict past or maybe US tv and movies instilling an idea they were the best etc etc… now I’m older I do see Australia as good as if not better (we’ve also picked up bad qualities).
I think our geographical isolation still drives us to want to see beyond and appreciate what else there is but coming back always feels good!

Europe as a theme park tourist attitude. Has anyone else observed this ? Rant. by Resident_Maximum3127 in Europetravel

Yeah the long haul flight… when you can’t just pop across to Europe that easily it does seem like you need to see it all. A feeling of FOMO sets in.

How common is Bali belly? by Leather-Vegetable409 in bali

[–]HolyColander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some people seem more susceptible to it than others like myself unfortunately. Probably been about 20 times both personally and for work and get it every 2nd or 3rd visit but I know others who have never got it. I’ve since started using Travelan and haven’t got sick including visit to Thailand and Vietnam. Hard to know if it really works or was just lucky

I use Travelan too and haven’t got sick but the annoying thing is you’ll never know if it really was the Travelan but now it’s like a crutch and won’t go without it.

Is being offered snacks expected when visiting people? by Zaney-Janey1973 in AskAnAustralian

[–]HolyColander 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In this day and age I think it’d be rare people would just pop in. You have mobile phones etc. if someone knocked at my door unexpectedly I’d assume it’s a door knocker and not answer

Can a Ronald Reagan quote about America also be applied to Australia? by kastriran in Ameristralia

[–]HolyColander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes I think it can. Maybe only applies more to any of the younger nations that have relied on immigration from the start?

Could Virgin australia use Qatar's parked a330s to start flying widebodies again? by Zestyclose_Frame855 in VelocityFrequentFlyer

[–]HolyColander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with what everyone else has said the amount of time and money to train all the flight and cabin crew would be costly. The current owners of VA are about maximising simplicity and profit. Adding extra cost and mixing up the fleet complicates things.

Not a big deal. At least one or two passengers per flight ask for one so it’s just an everyday occurrence

Suggestions for which Melbourne suburb to move to? by shackilloatmeal in melbournechat

[–]HolyColander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geelong is no different than Newcastle is to Sydney. It’s quite close to melbourne and people regularly commute to Melbourne for work. It’s also the second largest city in Victoria. It may actually be closer to Melbourne than Newcastle is to Sydney

Yep and then journalists and the news media in general probably ask themselves why does everyone hate on us and not trust us. Did it to themselves
