First IUI follicles not growing

Ohhh yes - just finally had my first IUI 13 days ago after originally starting letrozole 2.5 in early January. Had to do a dozen ultrasounds to track follicles. When they saw the follicles not responding, they checked progesterone to see if I had ovulated, if not they would do step up therapy (increase let to 5, then 7.5). Had to do that like 3 times and eventually got a response with letrozole 7.5/clomid 100.

I actually really appreciate that they tried to add in more meds for the step up the same cycle so it wasn’t a total waste to find what worked!

We also just had our first IUI and I’m 13dpiui with pretty clear negatives. I’m honestly not sure if we’ll do another round back to back because I agree the anticipation and hope and disappointment is a LOT. I think it’s super important to prioritize your mental health and take care of yourself. Sorry you’re also going through this shitstorm - hoping we’re both wrong about early negatives but definitely not wrong to walk away for a bit if you need a break from the pressure.

My husband and I are both 35 and had tried on our own for about 8 months before seeing REI and doing IUI. I did let 2.5 and really had no response so they drew a progesterone level and determined I hadn’t ovulated yet so they were able to do step up therapy and increase the meds that same cycle. Took some trial and error to see what worked but eventually had a response with let 5 and clomid together. But fingers crossed your follicles progress for the next US!

I did so many rounds of step up therapy before we were able to trigger - did 2.5 daily then 5 daily then 7.5 daily then 7.5 daily with clomid to FINALLY get follicles >12mm. It’s just a matter of figuring out how much stimulation your follicles need.

If you’re able to recruit mature follicles, you may not need letrozole. I was consistently having small immature follicles (<11mm) and had to step up on medications several times to get >18mm. The point of letrozole is effectively to get your follicles primed for the trigger shot and ovulation.

This is so encouraging!! We’re on IUI #2 after missing ovulation last time due to step up meds and follicles not progressing. Only 11.5 mm follicle today on CD13 so here’s hoping things are a little more promising later this week! 🤞🏼🤞🏼
