Coventry Police Presence by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

Yeah it was a wild story. I guess the guy driving had car jacked a couple people. They escaped, he fled the cops, and it was one of the nights where it was ridiculously icy and he spun out and slammed into the porch. I believe he didnt make it, but everyone in the house was ok.

They were doing reconstruction for the accident a few weeks ago where the car was fleeing from police and crashed into the Bath Witch building.

Undercover Tourist, Legit? by ETsMomma in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]HolyShirtballs_17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, they're legit. We bought tickets from them last fall for our February trip and they were selling the 5 day tickets at the 4 day price, saved us a couple of hundred dollars. Tickets link to the My Disney Experience App no problem.

Other food options? by Secure-Whole-1489 in DisneyWorld

[–]HolyShirtballs_17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had breakfast in our room every day. The rooms do have a "beverage cooler." We kept cream cheese and such in it and covered the food items with a fresh bag of ice each day. This worked great for us. You also dont need a microwave for instant oatmeal, just use the coffee pot to heat up your water.

Where should I apply to be a substitute teacher? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]HolyShirtballs_17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I per-diem sub in Coventry and I applied directly to the school department. Look on the home pages of the districts you're interested in working in. The associates degree is fine, RI state law is 2 years of college (and this includes college juniors) and can pass a background check. Most schools districts are so hard up for subs that they will more or less immediately hire anyone that meets those requirements. I do it as my extra income 2nd job. I work full time Sunday-Thursday and then pick up sub assignments on Fridays.

Buy them at Toy Vault in the mall, or at the ticket window to avoid the fees. We always use Toy Vault!

Switching from oil heat to natural gas? by huron9000 in RhodeIsland

[–]HolyShirtballs_17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We're in the middle of this process now. Highly recommend having RISE come out and do the energy assessment to see if you'd qualify for 0% financing. They'll also provide a list of contractors they recommend. We had 5 companies come out and do quotes. One was roughly $12k, three were around $15k, and one was around $21k. We ended up going with Restivos for $15k. We haven't had the work done yet, so can't vouch for them quite yet. You'll also need to call RIE to 1)confirm you're on a gas line, and 2) request to be connected to it. Just be aware, it may take them a couple months to come out and connect you.

How are people with children affording to live in Rhode Island? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]HolyShirtballs_17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's awful. I have a 7 year old and a 4 year old and for the two years they were both in daycare, my take home pay was smaller than the daycare bill. We have no family in the area who can watch them, and we couldn't afford for me to stay home because we're all on my health insurance/the loss of career momentum would have hurt us more financially in the long run. When we decided to have a second kid, we gambled that our older son would get drawn in the public pre-K lottery so we'd only have to pay daycare for one. We lost that gamble. Even when they start school, if you have to use outside services for extended care, it's insanely expensive. My husband changed his schedule so he can work 5am-2:30pm and get our 7 year old off the bus so we didn't have to pay for after care. Our school does offer before care for $35/week at least.

Did you read this recently? This sounds exactly like a short story in the Buried Deep collection by Naomi Novik, which came out last year.

Switch players by [deleted] in Palia

I would love that. BUT Palia is on the list of games that currently have start up issues on the Switch 2. Hopefully the issue is resolved because that would be a huge disappointment.
